I think it was designed to fit a woman's wrist but it can fit a fine-boned man's wrist with the fastwrap strap because my husband had a similar one with a fastwrap a few years ago. If your 8 year old's wrist is much smaller than 6 inches it will still grip but she might have a little lose end tab on the end of the strap to deal with.
