Our Heritage
The story of Seiko began in 1881, when a 21 year old entrepreneur, Kintaro Hattori, opened a shop selling and repairing watches and clocks in central Tokyo. Just eleven years later, in 1892, he established the 'Seikosha' factory.
Seikosha was founded; started producing wall clocks.
In 1892 Kintaro Hattori bought a disused factory in Tokyo and Seikosha was formed (In Japanese, "Seiko" means "exquisite", "minute" or "success" and "sha" means house). It was here that Kintaro Hattori produced his first clocks and these marked the beginnings of a company that was to become one of the important manufacturers of timepieces.
The Legacy Carries On
When, in 1913, Seiko built its first wrist watch, the company’s president called it the Laurel. It was not only a first for Seiko, but also a first for Japan and it was the beginning of a tradition of innovation that resulted directly from Kintaro Hattori’s determination. Today, after more than 130 years of innovation, Kintaro Hattori’s company is still dedicated to the dreams that the founder always strove to achieve.

User questions & answers
Question: | Is this an authentic Seiko watch? Seiko website doesn't show this model number |
Answer: | Yes the links are removable. I love the watch but had to send the first one back as the beautiful band kept coming unlatched. I took the second one to my jeweler to fix the clasp. |
Question: | What is the power source for this watch? Is it solar |
Answer: | Princeton Watches is an authorized retailer. Our watches come directly from the manufacturer and are covered by their warranty. When you order from us you will receive all original packaging and paperwork including in this case a Seiko 3 year warranty. |
Question: | Does the date/day adjust to leap years automatically |
Answer: | The solar movement is powered by any light source. Once the battery is fully charged, this model will have a 10 month power reserve. If you left it in a drawer for an extended period of time, it would still be working up to 10 months later. Once the watch is exposed to a light source, the battery will recharge. The solar battery never needs to be replaced. |
Question: | What is the origin of this watch |
Answer: | No you can't. |

User questions & answers
Question: | Hardlex or Saphire? Confused |
Answer: | I bought a watch like this from Amazon last year and am still wearing it every day. The dial is blue, but it is very dark blue. On a sunny day outside it appears as blue, but inside the blue is so dark that it appears to be black. I have had no problem with the watch. |
Question: | le verre est hardlex ou saffire le cadran est bleu ou noir merci de votre reponse |
Answer: | The hands glow (even the "seconds" hand!), but there are just four small luminous "spots" at the 12, 3, 6 and 9 positions, NOT the numerals themselves. This watch is not for precise time-telling in the dark--very few watches are. But for accuracy, it's hard to beat when the lights are on or the sun is out. The titanium case and sapphire crystal really do retain their scratch-free condition. Best watch I've ever had. (Even better--and more accurate--than the genuine Rolex Explorer watch that I owned back in the late 1950s, when I was a flight navigator in the U.S. Air Force and depended upon that Rolex for accurate celestial navigation.) I have just read the other responses you have received, and I believe mine is the most complete and accurate response, so far. |
Question: | This happens often with certain pictures; the picture is a blue dial,,the descriptin says black. Anyone know |
Answer: | No, it is easy by using the watch link remover. I needed to remove only one link |
Question: | Do the numbers and hands glow in the dark |
Answer: | At nite i put my watch under my bright adjustable desk lamp with an led bulb{take care not to have it to close to get it hot} on occasion in order to keep the batt charged up{once a month or longer}...batteries that are kept charged up will last extremely long, much, much longer than those in a non solar application.I'm only guessing ,but i expect the batt to last in my watch at least 10yrs,probably longer. Love my watch,it really looks great and like all my previous Seiko's never needs resetting or repairs. |
