10 best diving watches

Diving watches are specialized timepieces designed for underwater use, primarily by scuba divers and water sports enthusiasts. They are known for their durability, water resistance, and specific features tailored to diving. Here's what you need to know about diving watches:

  1. Water Resistance:

    • Diving watches are built to withstand the high pressures of underwater environments. They are typically rated for water resistance at specific depths, such as 200 meters (660 feet) or more.
    • The level of water resistance is a critical factor for divers, as it determines the watch's suitability for different depths.
  2. Screw-Down Crown:

    • Diving watches often feature a screw-down crown, which forms a watertight seal when screwed in. This prevents water from entering the watch case through the crown.
  3. Rotating Bezel:

    • Most diving watches have a unidirectional rotating bezel with minute markers. Divers use the bezel to time their dives by aligning it with the minute hand to track elapsed time underwater.
  4. Luminescent Markings:

    • Diving watches typically have luminescent markers on the dial and hands, making them readable in low-light or underwater conditions.
  5. Shock Resistance:

    • These watches are designed to be durable and able to withstand shocks and impacts that may occur during diving.
  6. Straps and Bands:

    • Diving watches often come with rubber or silicone straps, which are comfortable in wet conditions and resist deterioration from exposure to saltwater.
    • Some models also have stainless steel or titanium bracelets.
  7. Helium Escape Valve:

    • Watches designed for deep-sea diving, such as saturation diving, may feature a helium escape valve. This valve allows helium to escape from the watch during decompression to prevent damage.
  8. Depth Rating:

    • Diving watches are tested and rated for specific depths. It's crucial for divers to choose a watch with an appropriate depth rating for their diving activities.
  9. ISO 6425 Certification:

    • Some high-quality diving watches are certified to meet ISO 6425 standards, which specify criteria for reliability and functionality in underwater conditions.
  10. Maintenance:

    • Divers should regularly have their diving watches serviced to ensure they remain water-resistant and accurate.
    • Seals and gaskets should be inspected and replaced as needed.
  11. Style and Design:

    • Diving watches often have a distinctive design with a bold, legible dial and large hands.
    • They may come in various styles, including classic, modern, and vintage-inspired designs.
  12. Cost:

    • The price of diving watches varies widely, from affordable models suitable for recreational divers to high-end luxury watches designed for professional divers.

Diving watches are not only functional tools for underwater exploration but also popular fashion accessories for those who appreciate their rugged and stylish designs. They are a symbol of adventure and precision, suitable for both diving enthusiasts and individuals who simply appreciate their aesthetic appeal.

User questions & answers

Question: Will I be able to engrave the watch if I wanted to
Answer: Its practically the same watch but the EF-527D-1AVEF has a couple dial changes with red accents in small portions of the display
Question: What is lumed? hands, marker set point
Answer: Dimensions (H x W x D) 51,00mm x 45,50mm x 11,40mm
Question: Is the watch good for swimming
Answer: No dual time.
Question: When swapping out the band would it require a 22mm band or a 20mm? Description says 20mm but some reviews state otherwise. Thanks
Answer: Not directly. However, you can divide 3600 by the number of seconds it took you to travel one mile to calculate your speed in miles per hour. Line up the '10' on the outer dial with the number of seconds it took you to travel one mile. Look at the 36 (3600) on the inner dial. The number on the outer dial over 36 will show your speed in mph . If it took you 36 seconds or less to travel one mile, multiply the number on the outer dial by 10.

Question: really waterproof
Answer: Yes, it does come with the Garmin Warranty. Garmin products are warranted to be free from defects in materials or workmanship for one year* from the original date of purchase. Here is a links for more warranty information: https://support.garmin.com/en-US/?faq=bcEvnxKADn2O7A2Tspooe6&productID=568181&searchQuery=Warranty Thanks Jenny
Question: How is this watch powered
Answer: The skiing feature is NOT working well. I have used it many times and was getting various false readings including bogus altitude and impossibly high speeds. Not recommended for skiing. But happy with most of scuba related tracking except few small bugs with the mobile app and the diving related screens.
Question: How well can you see all 3 hands in the dark? Is it lit in any way
Answer: It does not have air integration... one of the biggest downsides to using it as a dive computer, Garmin should have incorporated it for sure!
Question: Where does this come from if it takes 1-2 months to arrive
Answer: Hi, Thanks for your question. Unffortunately, it can not hold music files. Thanks Divemaster Chris 866-728-2293 Onlinescuba

    User questions & answers

Question: Does this come with a Garmin warranty
Answer: From time telling mode press lower left button 3 times. Press lower right twice, hours flash. Press upper right repeatedly until an "H" appears to the right of the minutes. Press lower left once to return to time telling mode.
Question: Has anyone used this for diving and skiing? need a dive computer, but want to track my runs/top speed when i ski as well
Answer: The watch is an inch and a quarter in diameter. The band is up to 8 inches long. As an adult woman, the watch is a bit big for me but I love the clear numbers and the light weight.
Question: Is it compatible with tank pressure transmitter
Answer: No, you're right. Whenever you take off your watch, you should open the back and remove the battery. Leave the back off to facilitate reinserting the battery next time you need to tell the time. Doing that will extend the battery's life probably beyond the watch's.Seriously—I've 2 Casios, each on their 2nd battery, but the 1sts lasted >10years. 99.999% of that lifespan was "wasted". Casio has to insert a battery to QC the watch. Leaving it running adds an insignificant incremental extra to that 99.999%.
Question: Can I download music on the decent like my fenix 5 and use it for running as well
Answer: no there is no back lighting or glow in the dark for the watch

And the easy-to-read compass display is available for underwater use as well. The built-in altimeter provides elevation data, while the tilt-compensated 3-axis electronic compass keeps your bearing — whether you’re moving or not. For quick access to the compass display, a handy “tap to compass” feature lets you simply double-tap the screen instead of pushing the function buttons.

    Wrist-based Heart Rate

The Descent Mk1 dive computer uses Garmin Elevate wrist-based heart rate technology to optically scan your pulse (when worn in contact with your skin, not over a wetsuit or dry suit). The dive computer tracks your exertion levels and uploads your heart rate data automatically to your Garmin Connect online account for post-dive review and analysis.

Or you can use GroupTrack and your map display to keep tabs on your activity-sharing buddies as you go.

    Premium Materials, Elegant Style

Crafted of premium grade materials, the Descent Mk1 dive computer is available in 2 distinctive styles: a stainless steel bezel with treated silicone watch band or a deluxe titanium bezel version with brushed DLC titanium bracelet. Both models offer advanced GPS and GLONASS satellite reception, via an EXO omnidirectional antenna in the bezel, for better reception in challenging environments (versus GPS alone). A bright, high-resolution, full-color Garmin Chroma Display with LED backlighting assures great readability in all lighting conditions, above or below the water. And for added scratch resistance, both models incorporate a high-strength domed sapphire lens.

    About Seiko:

In 1877, at the age of 18, Kintaro Hattori set up business repairing the Western-style clocks that were becoming increasingly popular in Japan. By 1892, Hattori was manufacturing his own clocks in a factory he called Seikosha, from the words "seiko" meaning "exquisite," "success," or "miniature," and "sha" meaning "house." The company grew and prospered, producing its first wristwatch in 1913 and launching the Seiko brand in 1924. Technological innovation has always been a driving force in the company's history. Key milestones include Seiko's introduction of the world's first quartz watch in 1969, and its successful launch, in 1988, of the Kinetic, the world's first battery-free watch with quartz accuracy. User questions & answers

Question: It says black strap but the picture shows the silicon stap to be blue? Whoch is it blue or black
Answer: The watch will remain water resistant to 330 feet, as long as it's not moving. Arm movement can actually increase the effective pressure on the watch, which will cause it to leak. That's why they say "water resistant to 330 feet," not "waterproof to 330 feet."
Question: Does this wstch have a bezel lock and if so how to operate
Answer: Once your watch is set to the correct day/date so that it changes when it should, the other "words" will no longer be visible after the day/date cycles.
Question: I've had blue bands before than were hard as a rock, is this band a soft, stretchy silicone
Answer: My son & I both have this watch & we have used it in salt water many times without any problems re corrosion. It states on back "stainless steel back". My watch is approx. 3 years old & my sons about 3 months. Both keep excellent time. For the price I paid they have been very good purchases.
Question: What’s the case diameter? Listed at 44 and 47? The answer posted isn’t definitive and I can’t wear a
Answer: Definitive answer: To be sold as a true "dive watch", a watch must be ISO 6425 certified. This certification entails a lot more than just water resistance (and water resistance ratings are static, and not to be taken literally in the first place). If the watch isn't certified, it can't be sold as being suitable for diving. There are 1000+m watches that aren't "dive watches".
