12 best dive watches
Dive watches are a specialized type of wristwatch designed for underwater use. They are popular among divers, water sports enthusiasts, and watch collectors due to their durability, water resistance, and unique features. Here's what you should know about dive watches:
Water Resistance: Dive watches are specifically engineered to withstand water pressure at significant depths. Most dive watches are rated for a minimum water resistance of 200 meters (660 feet) or more, although some can go much deeper.
Rotating Bezel: One of the defining features of a dive watch is its rotating bezel. This bezel can be rotated to track elapsed time, typically up to 60 minutes, and is essential for calculating dive times and decompression stops.
Luminescent Markers: Dive watches often feature luminescent markers and hands for easy reading in low-light or underwater conditions. This luminescence is usually powered by tritium, Super-LumiNova, or other similar materials.
Screw-Down Crown: The crown (the knob used to set the time) of a dive watch typically screws down to ensure water resistance. This prevents water from entering the watch case.
Shock Resistance: Dive watches are built to withstand rough handling and shocks, making them suitable for underwater activities and challenging environments.
ISO Certification: Many reputable dive watches are ISO 6425 certified, which sets specific criteria for their design and performance underwater. This certification ensures that the watch meets strict standards for diving.
Helium Escape Valve: Some dive watches designed for deep-sea diving include a helium escape valve. This feature allows helium gas, which can seep into the watch during deep dives, to escape safely.
Strap Options: Dive watches often come with durable straps or bracelets made from materials like rubber, stainless steel, or nylon. The choice of strap depends on personal preference and intended use.
Movement Types: Dive watches can feature both automatic (self-winding) and quartz movements. Automatic movements are favored by enthusiasts for their mechanical precision and heritage, while quartz movements are known for their accuracy and low maintenance.
Style and Design: While functionality is paramount, many dive watches also boast stylish designs that make them suitable for everyday wear. They come in a variety of case materials, sizes, and dial colors.
Brands and Models: Several renowned watch brands are known for their dive watches, including Rolex, Omega, Seiko, TAG Heuer, and Citizen. Each brand offers a range of dive watch models with varying features and price points.
In summary, dive watches are specialized timepieces built to withstand the rigors of underwater use. They are characterized by their water resistance, rotating bezels, luminescent markers, and other features designed to assist divers in tracking time and staying safe during their underwater adventures. These watches blend functionality with style, making them a popular choice for both divers and watch enthusiasts.

User questions & answers
Question: | Will I be able to engrave the watch if I wanted to |
Answer: | Its practically the same watch but the EF-527D-1AVEF has a couple dial changes with red accents in small portions of the display |
Question: | What is lumed? hands, marker set point |
Answer: | Dimensions (H x W x D) 51,00mm x 45,50mm x 11,40mm |
Question: | Is the watch good for swimming |
Answer: | No dual time. |
Question: | When swapping out the band would it require a 22mm band or a 20mm? Description says 20mm but some reviews state otherwise. Thanks |
Answer: | Not directly. However, you can divide 3600 by the number of seconds it took you to travel one mile to calculate your speed in miles per hour. Line up the '10' on the outer dial with the number of seconds it took you to travel one mile. Look at the 36 (3600) on the inner dial. The number on the outer dial over 36 will show your speed in mph . If it took you 36 seconds or less to travel one mile, multiply the number on the outer dial by 10. |

User questions & answers
Question: | Does this come with a Garmin warranty |
Answer: | From time telling mode press lower left button 3 times. Press lower right twice, hours flash. Press upper right repeatedly until an "H" appears to the right of the minutes. Press lower left once to return to time telling mode. |
Question: | Has anyone used this for diving and skiing? need a dive computer, but want to track my runs/top speed when i ski as well |
Answer: | The watch is an inch and a quarter in diameter. The band is up to 8 inches long. As an adult woman, the watch is a bit big for me but I love the clear numbers and the light weight. |
Question: | Is it compatible with tank pressure transmitter |
Answer: | No, you're right. Whenever you take off your watch, you should open the back and remove the battery. Leave the back off to facilitate reinserting the battery next time you need to tell the time. Doing that will extend the battery's life probably beyond the watch's.Seriously—I've 2 Casios, each on their 2nd battery, but the 1sts lasted >10years. 99.999% of that lifespan was "wasted". Casio has to insert a battery to QC the watch. Leaving it running adds an insignificant incremental extra to that 99.999%. |
Question: | Can I download music on the decent like my fenix 5 and use it for running as well |
Answer: | no there is no back lighting or glow in the dark for the watch |

Versatile GPS Dive Computer for Your Diving Adventures
Whether you dive with or without tanks, in saltwater or fresh water, breathing nitrox, trimix or holding your breath — Descent Mk1 is the intuitive, do-it-all dive computer you’ve been waiting for. It’s the first watch-sized dive computer to offer surface GPS navigation with full-color onscreen mapping and location reference — so you can easily mark your dive entry and exit points.
Once underwater, the proven Bühlmann ZHL-16c algorithm makes sure you’re staying within your dive limits. Selectable tone and vibration alerts help keep you informed while you’re submerged. Returning topside, Descent Mk1 also functions as a robust training companion, offering the best features of our fēnix 5X ultimate multisport GPS watch, including smart notifications³ to help you stay in touch on the go. What’s more, the Descent Mk1 design is so sleek, comfortable and elegantly crafted, you’ll want to wear it as your everyday timepiece.
Charge It Up, Change It Up
Between charges, you can count on up to 40 hours of battery life in dive mode, up to 19 days in watch mode, up to 10 days in smartwatch mode and up to 20 hours in GPS mode (all depending on settings). QuickFit bands let you tailor your wrist-worn style for any daily activity or special occasion — no tools required. And for diving, longer QuickFit straps are included for use over thick wetsuits or dry suits.
Breathe Easier, Dive Better
Providing easy-to-access features for a range of diving activities — including the ability to plan dives on the device for recreational, technical and free diving — Descent Mk1 provides all the key, real-time data you need for a confident dive. The computer is automatically activated when you hit the water, showing your current depth, dive time, water temperature, ascent/descent rate, no-deco time, decompression stop information, battery life and more on the unit’s crisp 1.2” color display.
You can set the audible tone and vibration alarms to provide reminders at critical points in your dive. And up to 6 different gas mixes are supported, including nitrox and trimix (up to 100% oxygen). Configurable conservatism settings let you adjust your personal safety limits.
Multiple Navigation Sensors
In addition to its high-sensitivity GPS and GLONASS satellite tracking for map-based surface navigation, Descent Mk1 also provides a full array of ABC (altimeter, barometer and compass) sensor capabilities for topside navigation. And the easy-to-read compass display is available for underwater use as well. The built-in altimeter provides elevation data, while the tilt-compensated 3-axis electronic compass keeps your bearing — whether you’re moving or not. For quick access to the compass display, a handy “tap to compass” feature lets you simply double-tap the screen instead of pushing the function buttons.
Wrist-based Heart Rate
The Descent Mk1 dive computer uses Garmin Elevate wrist-based heart rate technology to optically scan your pulse (when worn in contact with your skin, not over a wetsuit or dry suit). The dive computer tracks your exertion levels and uploads your heart rate data automatically to your Garmin Connect online account for post-dive review and analysis.
Advanced Multisport Watch Features
Beyond its full range of dive computer functions, Descent Mk1 also offers a complete feature set of sports/training, fitness and outdoor navigation tools, leveraged from our popular fēnix line of high-end multisport watches. You can tap into an array of physiological metrics, running dynamics, fitness tracking features and more — to monitor your workout stats, measure your progress and help avoid injury. Special preloaded activity profiles are provided for swimming, running, biking, hiking, skiing, rowing, paddle boarding and more. Various timekeeping, lap counts and map tracking functions are easily accessible. Plus, for added motivation, you can even download advanced workouts and training plans to your device from Garmin Connect.
Smart Connectivity
When paired with your compatible smartphone, Descent Mk1 makes it easy to receive text messages, emails and smart notifications right on your watch face. It also gives you access to automatic uploads with Garmin Connect, audio prompts, music controls and more. While you’re topside, friends and family members can follow your location and adventures online, in real time, using the LiveTrack feature. Or you can use GroupTrack and your map display to keep tabs on your activity-sharing buddies as you go.
Premium Materials, Elegant Style
Crafted of premium grade materials, the Descent Mk1 dive computer is available in 2 distinctive styles: a stainless steel bezel with treated silicone watch band or a deluxe titanium bezel version with brushed DLC titanium bracelet. Both models offer advanced GPS and GLONASS satellite reception, via an EXO omnidirectional antenna in the bezel, for better reception in challenging environments (versus GPS alone). A bright, high-resolution, full-color Garmin Chroma Display with LED backlighting assures great readability in all lighting conditions, above or below the water. And for added scratch resistance, both models incorporate a high-strength domed sapphire lens.

About Seiko:
In 1877, at the age of 18, Kintaro Hattori set up business repairing the Western-style clocks that were becoming increasingly popular in Japan. By 1892, Hattori was manufacturing his own clocks in a factory he called Seikosha, from the words "seiko" meaning "exquisite," "success," or "miniature," and "sha" meaning "house." The company grew and prospered, producing its first wristwatch in 1913 and launching the Seiko brand in 1924. Technological innovation has always been a driving force in the company's history. Key milestones include Seiko's introduction of the world's first quartz watch in 1969, and its successful launch, in 1988, of the Kinetic, the world's first battery-free watch with quartz accuracy. Recognized for its technological excellence, Seiko has provided timekeeping services for the Olympic Games and the World Cup Soccer Championships. User questions & answers
Question: | It says black strap but the picture shows the silicon stap to be blue? Whoch is it blue or black |
Answer: | The watch will remain water resistant to 330 feet, as long as it's not moving. Arm movement can actually increase the effective pressure on the watch, which will cause it to leak. That's why they say "water resistant to 330 feet," not "waterproof to 330 feet." |
Question: | Does this wstch have a bezel lock and if so how to operate |
Answer: | Once your watch is set to the correct day/date so that it changes when it should, the other "words" will no longer be visible after the day/date cycles. |
Question: | I've had blue bands before than were hard as a rock, is this band a soft, stretchy silicone |
Answer: | My son & I both have this watch & we have used it in salt water many times without any problems re corrosion. It states on back "stainless steel back". My watch is approx. 3 years old & my sons about 3 months. Both keep excellent time. For the price I paid they have been very good purchases. |
Question: | What’s the case diameter? Listed at 44 and 47? The answer posted isn’t definitive and I can’t wear a |
Answer: | Definitive answer: To be sold as a true "dive watch", a watch must be ISO 6425 certified. This certification entails a lot more than just water resistance (and water resistance ratings are static, and not to be taken literally in the first place). If the watch isn't certified, it can't be sold as being suitable for diving. There are 1000+m watches that aren't "dive watches". |

Here is a links for more warranty information: https://support.garmin.com/en-US/?faq=bcEvnxKADn2O7A2Tspooe6&productID=568181&searchQuery=Warranty Thanks Jenny |
Question: | How is this watch powered |
Answer: | The skiing feature is NOT working well. I have used it many times and was getting various false readings including bogus altitude and impossibly high speeds. Not recommended for skiing. But happy with most of scuba related tracking except few small bugs with the mobile app and the diving related screens. |
Question: | How well can you see all 3 hands in the dark? Is it lit in any way |
Answer: | It does not have air integration... one of the biggest downsides to using it as a dive computer, Garmin should have incorporated it for sure! |
Question: | Where does this come from if it takes 1-2 months to arrive |
Answer: | Hi, Thanks for your question. Unffortunately, it can not hold music files. Thanks Divemaster Chris 866-728-2293 Onlinescuba |
