13 best automatic watches for men

Automatic watches for men are sophisticated timepieces that offer a unique blend of craftsmanship, precision engineering, and timeless style. These watches are often highly regarded for their mechanical complexity and are considered a symbol of luxury and fine craftsmanship. Here are some key characteristics and features of automatic watches for men:

  1. Mechanical Movement: Automatic watches, also known as self-winding watches, operate without the need for a battery. They rely on a complex mechanical movement powered by the wearer's wrist movements. When the watch is worn regularly, the motion of the wearer's arm winds the mainspring, storing energy to keep the watch running.

  2. Elegant Design: Automatic watches are prized for their elegant and classic designs. They come in a wide range of styles, from minimalist dress watches to sporty chronographs, making them suitable for various occasions and personal tastes.

  3. Sweeping Second Hand: One of the distinctive features of automatic watches is the smooth, sweeping motion of the second hand, which moves continuously around the dial. This is in contrast to quartz watches, which have a ticking second hand that moves in one-second intervals.

  4. Precision and Accuracy: High-quality automatic movements are engineered with precision to provide accurate timekeeping. Many automatic watches undergo rigorous testing to meet strict accuracy standards.

  5. Watch Complications: Some automatic watches feature additional functions known as complications. These can include features like date displays, moon phase indicators, chronograph (stopwatch) functions, and more, adding both utility and visual interest to the watch.

  6. Luxury Materials: Automatic watches for men are often crafted from premium materials such as stainless steel, precious metals like gold or platinum, and sapphire crystal for the watch face. These materials contribute to the watch's durability and aesthetic appeal.

  7. Collectibility: Many automatic watches are highly collectible, with certain models and brands gaining value over time. Limited-edition or vintage automatic watches can be particularly sought after by collectors.

  8. Maintenance: While automatic watches do not require battery replacements, they do require periodic servicing to ensure optimal performance. This typically involves cleaning, lubricating, and adjusting the movement by a skilled watchmaker.

  9. Price Range: Automatic watches for men are available at a wide range of price points. Entry-level automatic watches offer affordability, while luxury brands offer exquisite craftsmanship and materials at a premium price.

  10. Brand Recognition: Numerous renowned watchmakers produce automatic watches, including Rolex, Omega, Patek Philippe, and many others. Brand reputation can play a significant role in the desirability and value of a watch.

Automatic watches are not only functional timekeeping devices but also statement pieces that reflect the wearer's style, appreciation for craftsmanship, and a sense of tradition. Whether chosen for daily wear or special occasions, these watches continue to be a symbol of timeless elegance and precision engineering in the world of horology.

Based on 10 reviews Check latest price

Product description

With a bold design, this Invicta chronograph has a poised and calm ambience that’s sure to have you looking twice.

Classic styling and high performance add up to an outstanding sport watch for your land or sea adventures. This automatic watch, from Invicta's Pro Diver series, places a large round stainless steel case on a robust triple link steel bracelet. The black dial is designed for quick and easy read-off, even in low light conditions. It offers three-hand function with Tritnite-coated luminous hands and hour markers and a magnified date display at the three o'clock mark. The dial is capped with a resilient mineral crystal and framed by a black unidirectional rotating steel bezel with coin edge detailing. This watch is driven by Japanese automatic movement, which is visible through the see-through skeleton case back. It is rated water resistant to a full 660 feet (200 meters).

Automatic Watches

Automatic watches do not operate on batteries. Automatic watches are made up of about 130 or more parts that work together to tell time. Automatic movements mark the passage of time by a series of gear mechanisms, and are wound by the movement of your wrist as you wear it. The gear train then transmits the power to the escapement, which distributes the impulses, turning the balance wheel. The balance wheel is the time regulating organ of a mechanical watch, which vibrates on a spiral hairspring. Lengthening or shortening the balance spring makes the balance wheel go faster or slower to advance or retard the watch. The travel of the balance wheel from one extreme to the other and back again is called oscillation. When this type of watch is removed from your wrist, the movement winds down in 10 to 72 hours, depending on the size of its winding reserve Lastly, automatic movements come in different types, including movements that are Swiss-made, Japanese-made, and more.

Also referred to as self-winding, watches with automatic movements utilize kinetic energy, the swinging of your arm, to provide energy to an oscillating rotor to keep the watch ticking. They're considered more satisfying to watch collectors (horologists) because of the engineering artistry that goes into the hundreds of parts that make up the movement. If you do not wear an automatic watch consistently (for about 8 to 12 hours a day), you can keep the watch powered with a watch winder (a great gift for collectors).

Screw Down Crowns: Many Invicta watches are equipped with a screw down crown to help prevent water infiltration. This is most common on our Diver models. In order to adjust the date and/or time on such a watch, you must first unscrew the crown before you can gently pull it out to its first or second click stop position. To do this, simply rotate the crown counterclockwise until it springs open. When you have finished setting the watch, the crown must then be pushed in and screwed back in tightly. Not doing so will cancel the water resistance of the watch and will void all warranties from the manufacturer. Overall, this process should not require a lot of effort or force.

User questions & answers

Question: Is there a self help on removing two or three links? I have the tools
Answer: Search "Invicta Link Removal" on You Tube. There are many videos, some are better than others. Pay attention to the direction of the arrows on the bracelet links.
Question: What is the difference between invicta 8926ob pro diver and invicta 17044 pro diver, the second is cheaper, what are other differences
Answer: They are pretty much the same watch and both have an Automatic Seiko movement (NH35A). The only difference I have found is the 8926OB face is more similar to the Rolex Submariner, with tabs instead of dots at the 3, 6 and 9 positions. Also, the loupe over the date window is slightly more powerful on the 8926OB, making it easier to read the date. I have both watches and prefer the 8926OB!
Question: Can enough links be removed to accommodate a 6.5" (approx.) wrist
Answer: Yes. I have a 6.25" wrist, and had to remove all but one link. So for a 6.5" wrist, removing all but 2 should be fine. The respondent above who said the links are graduated in size is mistaken. All the _removable_ links are the same size.
Question: What is the difference between 8926OB and 17044 ? Which is the better one
Answer: The 8926OB has straight indicese at 6 and 9 while the 17044 has round ones. The band width on the 8926 is 20mm while 18mm on the 17044. The case thickness on the 8926 is 11mm while 14mm on the 17044.17044 is a newer model (jan 2014) and the 8926OB is 2006 (with a new version in 2011). Also, the 17044 lists a "stopwatch" as a special feature.

User questions & answers

Question: How long will this watch continue to keep time if not worn? (I alternate between multiple watches) Thx
Answer: Approx?after 12 hour period. It's my everyday watch, but when I don't have it on, it's always stopping.
Question: On Amazons picture it shows the day as Dom(domingo for spanish speakers) Will I get the english version
Answer: From the product description: "Features include luminosity, sweeping second hand, canvas band, and a date window that can be formatted in English or Spanish"
Question: What size nato strap does this take? Do you utilize the existing springbars? Anyone recommendations
Answer: 18mm. Seiko springbars are great, I've never broken one. Google "snk809 wornandwound" for some pretty pics. Lots of NATO/Zulu/mil spec strap options but stay away from the cheap ones. Look for ones that thread stitch the seams and not just heat welded. Maratac, Clockwork Synergy, Nato International are good brands to start looking.
Question: What is the TRUE water resistance...there are 3 posted
Answer: 30 METERS (3 bar or atmospheres) which equals 100 FEET - the product description is incorrect and backwards. That being said, most 30m rated watches are okay for being quickly splashed for cleaning, but not rated to be WR for swimming pool or beach. This is not a dive watches which usually starts at 100m Water Resistant depths and have screw-down crowns.

  • Modern, minimalist style
  • Japanese-automatic Movement
  • Case Diameter: 40.5mm
  • Water resistant to 30m (100ft): in general, withstands splashes or brief immersion in water, but not suitable for swimming or bathing

User questions & answers

Question: White or Grey? Which one pops up more
Answer: IMO, white. Grey is subtle, but very nice.
Question: windable and hacking
Answer: Yes this generation is hand windable and hacks. Only Gen One versions don’t hand wind and hack. Orient later produced a second generation of the same watch with some upgrades to the movement. Here is how you tell Gen One from Gen Two just from looking at them quickly. Gen One says, “water resist” on the face and Gen Two says, “water resistant.” They otherwise look pretty much identical.
Question: I have an 8" wrist. Will it fit
Answer: I too have a 8” wrist. The existing band barely fit, so I replaced the band with a solid black Zulu strap. The strap is 22mm but it folded into the 21mm lug area very nicely. It really looks very nice IMO and I really love the watch. Russ Kemper
Question: Can you hear the watch winding itself when you move
Answer: No you can't hear the rotor while you wear the watch. You can hear it if you shake the watch to manually wind it. Love the watch well worth the money..

A New Generation of Bambino

The Version 3 has been known for its contemporary feel, a far cry from the classic and antique motifs of the earlier models. Its minimal look is translated through clean, vertical lines and rectangular hands. This symmetry is mirrored by a subtle sunburst dial, which also provides a gentle gleam and clear depth in design. Aside from these modern elements, the Version 3 is a Bambino through and through, carrying its signature domed crystal and domed dial, along with the dual-finish sandwich-style case.

An instruction manual and an application for the extended warranty program are also included. About Automatic Movements Exhibition case backs make for great complications. This is especially true when they display automatic movements. Automatic movements stem from mechanical movements with one key difference: a mechanism automatically winds the timepiece's mainspring as opposed to forcing the wearer to manually wind. This occurs thanks to a weighted rotor that spins on its own axis, continually charging the mainspring. Timepieces with automatic movements are meant to be appreciated for the craftsmanship and complex aesthetic that they provide and are a must-have for any watch enthusiast!

Classically styled with powerful lines and featuring a precise Japanese watch movement, the shock-resistant Invicta Grand Diver men's stainless steel watch is made for serious scuba fanatics with a water resistance rating to 300 meters (nearly 1000 feet). This large, round watch measures 47mm wide (1.85 inches) and 17mm thick (0.67 inches) and it's made from solid surgical grade stainless steel. It also offers a skeleton see-through caseback and molded diving helmet logos on the end pieces connecting the silver stainless steel bracelet band as well as on the screw-down crown. It's topped by a blue unidirectional rotating elapsed time bezel with white markings. The blue dial face is supplemented by Tritnite luminous dotted markers and arrowhead-style hands (with seconds hand). Other features include an anti-reflective crystal with magnifier, date function at 3 o'clock, and diver's buckle with safety clasp.

Stylishly classic, internal workings are forged with variations of either Swiss chronograph or 21-jewel automatic movements and willingly navigate in depths up to 300 meters. User questions & answers

Question: Why does the description say batteries included if this is an automatic
Answer: I don't know. It's probably a typo. It in fact does not use batteries. Had to shake it 20 times to start and with regular wear I have never had to worry about it stopping. Being an automatic it will lose time gradually however. I reset mine once every 2 weeks. (Just a heads up)
Question: Not that it matters anyway because if the band is too small i'll pay for extra links, but just out of curiosity how long is the bracelet on the watch
Answer: According to Invicta website, they state 215mm. Also, what I have done is ordered a extra long nylon premium 22mm navy blue 'ZULU' strap to make the watch look even more sportier. Now I have the option of wearing the metal band or the strap depending on the occasion.
Question: How do i manually wind this watch if i wanted to? I have read that it is hackable, but i dont know what it means
Answer: Its very easy to wind this watch manually, just take a look on youtube how to wind automatic watch
Question: Esse relógio e original ou replica
Answer: I sell genuine Invicta, complete with all paperwork. The original box is actually white on the one that I have in stock currently.

From the master craftsmen at Seiko, the Seiko Men's SNK807 Seiko 5 Automatic Blue Canvas Strap Watch is a cutting-edge timepiece with a masculine appeal. Featuring a blue analog dial and a blue canvas band, this watch is packed with style and would be a great addition to your watch collection.

This is an automatic mechanical watch. Automatic watches do not operate on batteries; instead, they are powered automatically by the movement of the wearer’s arm. If the main spring in your automatic watch is not wound sufficiently, timekeeping may become less accurate. In order to maintain accuracy, wear the watch for 8 hours or more per day, or manually wind the main spring by turning the crown. When not in use, automatic watches may be kept charged with an automatic watch winder – a watch storage unit which may be purchased separately.

User questions & answers

Question: Is there any way for you to ship to Turkey
Answer: No idea. But it is Amazon, and Amazon can do pretty much anything!!
Question: How many tpd or turn per day is required for this watch? I need to buy an winder. Please suggest a good one
Answer: I love this watch but you don't wind it conventionally. It is automatic so you have to tilt it back and forth and the pendulum inside does the winding for you. Simply wearing the watch will wind it up and then it is good for 24 to 30 hours on standby. If you wear it every day it will keep good time. If it sits for a couple of days you will have to set the time and date, tilt it back and forth a few times and then it is good to go.
Question: Would the strap on this watch fit a 7 1/2" wrist
Answer: My wrist is 7-1/2" and this watch fits me perfectly.
Question: does it have a manual wind feature
Answer: This model does not have a manual wind feature. This model has an Seiko Automatic movement - Powered by the movement of your wrist
