He showed his prototype to his engineer/inventor friend, Dr. Herbert Funck, and together they decided to develop and produce the shoes. Not only did the shoe solve the doctor's immediate problem, but it also started to sell well in Germany. By 1959 the two founders decided that they needed a company to produce and distribute the shoes, then called Dr. Maertens, in other parts of the world. At first, many manufacturers rejected the concept of an air cushioned sole as a short-lived gimmick. However, the R. Griggs Group, located in the village of Wollaston in England, decided to go along with the idea by creating the first work boot with the revolutionary sole. On the first of April 1960, the first cherry red eight-eyelet work boot was produced and named 1460 (1/4/60). To sell the brand name better in England, the name was anglicized to Dr. Martens. Answer:	Well, First of all I love these things, they do a great job. I use rubber gloves when I clean the toilets, after cleaning I rinse and squeeze as much water out of them as possible. Then I DO NOT slide the cover down but turn the brush upside down in the waste basket to dry, otherwise it will mold. Then the next day I slide the cover down and hang it on a little hook on the side of the toilet until the next use.

Answer:	Yes an extender can be added. The bottom "hook" can be unscrewed and an extender screwed into its place. It seems like it would take a handle from a broom that screws off or an extender for a paint roller.

Frequently, I accidentally bend it slightly, and have to bend it back into straightness; I'm simply unsure that it "supposed to" bend, and am concerned that the brush may snap if it happens too often or too severely. But yes, it technically DOES bend to dust high shelves.

Answer:	Hi, please turn the upper part counterclockwise while simultaneously turning the bottom part clockwise and then pull the bottom part out. Once the length is to your liking, tighten it doing the opposite.

Answer:	Mine hasn't gotten that dirty yet, to be honest. I like the idea of gently washing it by hand in the sink & then banging/snapping it back & forth a few times outside to quicken it's drying time. With mine, I periodically go outside while in the midst of dusting, and slap it against my hand outside several times to bang the dust out and keep it clean & "absorbent" for the rest of my dusting. By keeping it clean throughout each session and afterward, there's little need to wash it. Being somewhat electrostatic, this is made for light to medium dusting, I'd say. If you're trying to clean away several years worth of settled & packed dust, or soot, grime, and generally nasty stuff, then you'd probably do best with a rag, damp sponge, paper towel, or cheap/disposable (Swifter?) types of dusters.

Answer:	The stitches are optical only. The soles are glued, but I must say these boots are very well made and substantially heavier than the original Steve Madden Troopa. We have both, the Troopa and Troopa 2. The differences are: the original Troopa is a little more femine, lighter weight, have sewn thin (low profile) leather heels and soles and run a half size big - if you wear a 9, order 8.5 for a true fit; the new Troopa 2 is heavier leather, has thicker black rubber heels and soles (think tractor tread soles, not smooth) - glued, not sewn, and these boots run very true to form - if you wear a 9, order a 9. Based on the Troopa (in we bought a 9 that were really a little big), we bought an 8.5 in the Troopa 2 - it had to be exchanged for a 9. Now having said all of this, we didn't realize the difference in the heel/sole when we bought the Troopa 2, it just seemed "more substantial or heavier" but it's a great looking boot. Until you posed this question, and I looked, I didn't notice the difference. My daughter loves both. We only bought the Troopa 2 because we missed out on the Wine colored Troopa, so when the wine Troopa 2 came out, we pounced. It is a beautiful combat boot for a very feminine girl.
Question:	Are the soles rubber? I don't want to slip or the "high heel clacking" noise
Answer:	I did not keep my Dr. Martens 1460 Patent Leather boots because the size 9 FOR MY FOOT was not comfortable. The length of this size 9 that I ordered was perfectly fine. The problem FOR MY FOOT was the seam where the tongue of the boot is attached to the foot of the boot (this is underneath where the bottom of the laces are). I have unusually high arches and this part of the boot pressed down and was not comfortable. Size for length (this boot was the WOMEN'S size 9) has adequate toe space. And actually the width was fine - but not the depth of the boot, from top to insole. Hope this makes sense!!!
