User questions & answers

Question: Men's boot has 8 layers as opposed to women's 7 layers. i want max warmth! i wear about size 8 women's. what size men's would i get
Answer: Typically, a men's size number is two less than women's shoe size. In other words, if you are an 8 a men's size would be 6. HOWEVER, I always go up one or two sizes for a generous fit because I wear heavy wool socks with my boot. So you could do a men's 7 or a men's 8. I do not think you will be doing a lot of walking in this boot. Both my husband and myself love BAFFINs.
Question: Are these knee high boots
Answer: No. No. No. They go half way up to the knee. Very well made, warm. And plenty high enough
Question: I am looking for the compsite safety toe in this boot style, is this the one
Answer: No
Question: are the impact boots waterproof
Answer: Sorry to get back so late. To be technical they are heavy nylon and are probably water resistant and rubber boots would be really waterproof. However if you are looking for waterproof your using these boots in the wrong application; they are for below zero ( snow and ice ). I wore them in late fall in 35-40 degrees in mid-west and my feet were sweating too much which is where all the cold sensation or wet feeling comes from. But at 0 to 12 degrees; I never even noticed my feet being cold. They do work. It's a matter of using the right tool for the wright job. These boots are for cold weather (snow and ice and freezing rain ) and are a bit big and cumbersome. For warmer ( wet conditions ) you probably want to use a lighter duty & less cumbersome boot say from wal-mart. I know you don't want multiple boots but boots are really tools. You really need multiple boots as you do multiple shoes for different occasions. $150 (when on sale ) comes out to $15/year for 10 years and $7.5/year for 20 years. Goods tools are almost always cheaper in the long run than buying multiple cheap tools in your lifetime; the upfront cost hurts when you swipe the credit card but you will have a lifetime of enjoyment from the day you get the boots. This is my first Baffin & I'm shooting for them to last 15-20 years because I don't use them frequently. **I have bad spelling**

Question: Can you drive a car wearing these boots
Answer: They are kind of bulky, my husband did drive his Ford Pickup truck wearing them, and didn't have a problem.... he loves these boots and said they are the warmest things ever...
Question: Do these or any other baffin boots come in wide or ee
Answer: Baffin does not manufacture a specific wide width but all of their boots are designed to accommodate a wider width once the foam liner compresses and molds to your foot. It does take some wear before you feel the liner open up but you will get more width with time. I hope that helps!

User questions & answers

Question: are they truly waterproof
Answer: The bottom 1/3 of the boot is truly waterproof. I haven't been in water over a couple of inches deep. But I wouldn't trust the top part of the boot to be waterproof. And the boot is great at keeping my feet warm in below zero weather working outside for 2-4 hours at a time.
Question: Will these keep your feet warm standing on cold concrete during winter nfl games? i had a pair of kamik fargo rated similarly that didn’t do the job
Answer: These boots are very warm, but like any boot if you're not moving around and staying stationary, your feet are going to get cold. Wear the correct socks and add an extra insole. Make sure to order a size of boot so that your foot has a lot of room. The air surrounding your foot is what keeps you the most warm. I've worn these boots in -20 degrees F while standing in the same spot for 30+ minutes and I think they do their job.
Question: Can you use snowshoes
Answer: Yes can use as snowshoes. That's why we bought them. Very comfortable and keep feet warm and dry.
Question: Where are they made
Answer: China - where else! BUT they are a very high quality product - i love mine - very light and super easy to put on. Much better than traditional leather boots with laces. I wore them last winter in the snow - kept me warm and dry -= highly recommended.

User questions & answers

Question: Is the removable liner felt
Answer: No, it is not felt. It is a fairly sophisticated composite of open cell foam elastomers and reflective coatings. I personally doubt the reflective coatings have much effect, since radiant heat transfer takes place only between surfaces separated by an air or vacuum gap, and the liner is mostly in contact with socks or the outer boot. But the coatings do no harm. I think the insulating value of the foams is somewhat better than felt, though not radically so. But the foam doesn't absorb moisture the way felt does, which is a plus. Apart from the liner, the Baffin boots have good insulation in the soles, and I consider that their primary advantage. Most so-called insulated boots have no insulation in their soles, which is a major mistake, since feet are always in very firm contact with boot soles. The rubber in most boot soles is not an especially good conductor of heat, true, but it also is not a very good insulator. You will notice the difference immediately in really cold conditions.

User questions & answers

Question: Are these oil and slip resistant
Answer: Cannot speak for oil but definitely slip resistant.
Question: Baffins Web site shows this boot with a built in gator, it's not mentioned on this page. Does this boot have an expandable gator
Answer: Yes, this boot has a built in gator extension. It is in the top cuff and unfolds to give another 3-4" of coverage. Mine ends up right below the knee. Folds in half and tucks back in with the help of Velcro.
Question: Question my foot is a size eleven m it seems everyone orders one larger is this the way to go
Answer: Absolutely one size larger--the boots go to -60F, so you'll likely be wearing liner socks and insulating socks which increase your "foot size." I wear a solid 10-M and my 11 Selkirk's are perfect! If you'll be wearing a single layer, then the fit would be slightly loose--not a problem if you're not hiking like I do.
Question: Will these boots allow you to fit snowpants around the outside of the boot or is the calf section too wide
Answer: I just bought these for my hubby-they're his 2nd pair of these. He says ski pants will not fit over theses, but the bib-style pants that are flared at the bottom and have ankle zippers are made for these types boots and fit great. Order 1-1.5 size larger than you would normally wear. The 10s were too small, and I had to exchange for 11s. I hope this helps-he loves these boots-wears them snowmobiling
