User questions & answers
Question: | Is this made only in the USA |
Answer: | No. New boots are now made in China. I’ve only ordered one new pair since they moved to China production...but I have been impressed. That’s my ONE experience. I’ve seen others with a poor experience too. My pair was great! |
Question: | Do they streghlch |
Answer: | Do they stretch? Yes...but very little. The sizes run true...buy your exact size. I wear these everyday, including fire seasons out west. The stretch is expected but comfortable. After 3 years (yes, they last that long with AGGRESSIVE daily use) I find thick socks make them fit snug again. They fit good with regular socks at that point....just offer this as more clarification on the amount of stretch to be expected. Hope this helps. Simply my favorite boot design on the market right now. Plus the seams face up! No chance to have a stob pull at my leather! All boots should be made like that! |
Question: | Steel shank |
Answer: | Yes |

User questions & answers
Question: | Im looking for a good steel or rigid shank for working. does ths or other Chippewa's have a good shank |
Answer: | No shank. I've had problems with 2 different pairs soles separating at the shank also. Wouldn't recommend these as work boots. |
Question: | What length are the laces |
Answer: | The laces are 54-55 inches long. |
Question: | Do these boots use Goodyear Welting? I'm hoping to keep them for a long time, and high-quality construction is a must |
Answer: | I’m not sure, but I had these for 6 years, and I’m only buying a replacement pair now because these got covered in exterior paint. Otherwise I would’ve just went for a re-sole and new insole. These have lasted a long time, and I applied Sno-Seal every other Autumn. Worn everyday for work(and personal yard work) for 6 years. |
Question: | How do stand up to rain and snow |
Answer: | They will stand up to moderate amounts of either but may become cracked and dry if overexposed. I recommend waterproofing with wax, oil or some other method for increased weather durability. However be advised that this will alter the color of the leather. |
Product features
Vibram Stockbridge Outsole
The simple fine lines offer a dress profile, while the lug pattern in the center of the forepart and heel offers traction and stability. Vibram Gumlite is a micro-cellular, synthetic compound that combines slip-resistance with the long-wearing characteristics of rubber, yet Gumlite is half the weight. Vibram Gumlite maintains its physical properties and slip-resisting characteristics in cold weather. It is lightweight like EVA, yet longer wearing.
Handcrafted in the USA
In 1980, Chippewa Shoe Manufacturing Company embarked on a new campaign, - "Hand Crafted by people who care". The campaign focused on the skill of the craftsmen who work for Chippewa that are truly responsible for the high quality outdoor footwear by ORIGINAL CHIPPEWA. Over the years, this campaign has evolved into our company philosophy that Chippewa products use only premium raw materials and are hand crafted in USA. To this day, our U.S. made boots still carry the "Hand Crafted in USA" labels as homage to the men and women that have built the Chippewa brand.

User questions & answers
Question: | Waterproof |
Answer: | No. You have to use dubbing compound on them, but when you do, it gives them a nice patina as well as making them waterproof--especially around the sole. I recommend http://smile.amazon.com/Moneysworth-Best-Dubbin-Bees-Wax-6-Ounces/dp/B007Z07P9C/ref=sr_1_1?s=outdoor-recreation&ie=UTF8&qid=1442150373&sr=1-1&keywords=dubbing+wax or equivalent. |
Question: | Can they be resoled |
Answer: | Yes Chippewa will resole them. I sent mine to a cobbler which was more cost effective. |
Question: | are they true to size? I wear 8.5 mens sneakers |
Answer: | In my experience sneaker size does not really correspond very well to the size you get when measured by a brannock, while boot sizes usually do. I wear 10.5W in high quality boots, which is what a brannock indicates. Sneaker size I've been in everything from 10.5 to 12, depending on the brands. Tip - if you already own a pair of better quality boots, go with the same size as those. If you don't, go to a shoe store and use their brannock to see your 'true' size, and order that. these are great boots, btw - high quality and true to brannock size. |
Question: | Does this have a Steel toe |
Answer: | No, you may be able to order some simular. |
