| Answer: | No it doesn't crank up and down. The handle is tightened or loosened against the wedge post that fits into the lower sleeve of the stand. The upper wedge shaped post that the rollers are attached too is a nice design, when you tighten the crank against the wedge it is impossible for the rollers to shift downward no matter how much weight you put on top of the rollers. As far as positioning the height you pretty much have to hold it where you want it and tighten the crank against the wedge at the same time. Best design out there in my opinion I plan on buying another one. |

| Answer: | Kind of hard to say, not knowing what you are trying to accomplish. If I recall correctly, there are 2 12" and 2 18" rails in this kit, not 4 18" rails. Based on what you are trying to do with the PM1000 base, I would say you could probably get another 9-10" with the short rails and about 16" with the long ones. If you need a very narrow base you could probably safely put a 12/18 combo on each long side and keep the original width from the PM base. On my application it appears that all the weight of the machine is distributed to the four corners so if your rails are all tightened properly it should remain sturdy. |

Also keep in mind you can't really put two 18"s or two 12"s next to each other - you'd need to do [corner-18-12-18-corner] because the structure needs an overlap and the 12 nests inside the 18. Hope that's not too confusing! If you google the manual you can see how it comes together. |
