| Answer: | The "real" American Apparel made everything in Los Angeles, CA; unfortunately due to mismanagement and other factors, the "real" or original American Apparel filed bankruptcy and essentially ended business in April, 2017. Gilden, a well know Canadian basics company purchased American Apparel and has revived the brand with a limited number of classic items. The main difference, however, is that the new American Apparel (I call it Canadian-American Apparel) primarily makes the clothing items overseas to save money. Canadian-American Apparel continues to make 8 of the classic items in Los Angeles but they also offer an overseas version of the same item for a few dollars less. This 2001 t shirt is one of the 8 items that can still be made in the US. I would guess that if you received American-made shirts that they were likely leftovers in that sellers stock unless you paid more for the US made shirt over the one made in Honduras. The best (an possibly only) way you can make sure you get the US made item is to buy directly from American Apparel at www.americanapparel.net. They give you the option of buying the made-in-the-USA shirt albeit at a higher price and a limited colour choice. |
