Answer:	The thickness of the rope. 3mm is thinner then the 5 mm

Answer:	Note: the description on this Chums 3mm Rope Eyewear Retainer currently says the length is 12.5". The real length is 25". If you lay it on a table and fold it in half so that the ear pieces are together and the rope is straight THEN it is 12.5" long. Maybe they are telling you it will lay down 12.5" when placed on your glasses. I think this is a ridiculous and non-intuitive way to measure the length without an explanation and I almost didn't buy it because of that measurement. However, I really like the 3mm rope and 25" has plenty of length for me and I can adjust it shorter if needed by using the supplied rubber cinch square. If you don't like the cinch square, it is easy to cut off completely. I recommend this retainer. Order with confidence.

Answer:	I am so sorry for not responding to your question sooner. I was away on a long road trip and kind of out of touch. Although this information is probably useless or not new to you at this point, the total length is about 22 inches.
