Answer:	Hi. The partitions are more like walls with slots in them. You can pull them all out and use the inside as one single compartment or arrange the partitions into "walls" and make compartments of different sizes. And they are strong. The 15.6 inch measurement comes from a diagonal measurement of laptops. It might be possible but I can't imagine any 15.6 inch laptop not fitting.

Answer:	It doesn't fit a 17 inch laptop, it fits a 15 inch.

Answer:	It does have some padding but not specifically for a laptop just the basic padding that comes with most brief cases. You can put your laptop inside and still have room inside for books portfolios etc.

Answer:	I use the main pocket for a 15.6 inch laptop so it fits that. I measured the case its 16.5 inches on the outside and 15.5 on the inside with flaps that can expand roughly half an inch. Hope this helps.

Answer:	The combination locks should have both come set to 000. The slides next to the combination wheels are slid to the side away from the combination wheels to open the locks. To set a new combination, slide each slide TOWARD the combination wheels and hold them in that position with one hand while you turn the combination wheels to whatever numbers you want with your other hand. Pick a three digit number for each lock that you'll remember. In my case, I chose the month and day of my birthday for one lock and the month and day of my wedding anniversary for the other. I recommend setting each lock to a different number so that if someone lucks out with figuring out one lock, they don't get both. If you have trouble with the above, roll the wheels back to 000 and try the above again. Good luck.

Answer:	I seriously doubt it. There is no sort of gasket seal. And I think immersion in water would also allow water to leak in through the combination lock area. If you turned your drink over on it, it would be fine.

Answer:	If you mean to keep liquid out - no, but I think it would really take a serious soaking or immersion in water to actually get water into the interior from around the rim. The combo lock point would probably be the most susceptible to allowing water into the case. If you are transporting liquids, it come with a customizable foam insert that will hold things in place quite well to avoid breakage.

Question:	I intend to knock out the hinges and install latches on the back to completely separate the top. Is that easy or a good idea
Answer:	It’s probably not too easy or a good idea. You’d have to be very careful removing the rivets/hinges. For my light use, this case couldn’t be better – especially for the price, but it’s not a very strong box. You really couldn’t punch or pry out the rivets. You probably can’t even drill them out. Seems the only way is to grind the heads off with a Dremel or something like that - then you could probably punch them out. Pretty easy to do on the outside, but inside they’re under rubber padding glued to the walls. It would suck to remove that.
