Answer:	I love my Bogs! Nothing really works on ice except some form of Yaktrax with metal grippers . They slip on and off and shoe or boot. I work at a barn and when it is icy, sure, I can "shuffle" along on my Bogs, but in order to truly be able to "walk" you need buy some Trax!the sole is neither hard or soft. Answer:	Yes. It is quality leather. It is the kind that will scratch though. I prefer that kind because it gets weathered over time. I think one of the reasons it is less expensive is that the strap isn't leather (again I wanted that to keep it lighter) and all the pockets are fabric lined. I have had it for a few months now and am extremely happy with the quality.
