Gathers

A soft, feminine garment line is often shaped with gathers, which define waistlines, cuffs, yokes, necklines, or sleeve caps. Soft and sheer fabrics produce a draped look when gathered; crisp fabrics create a billowy effect.

Sleeve Details

Long sleeves on shirts, blouses, and lightweight jackets often have cuffs with buttoned closings. In many ways, sewing cuffs is similar to sewing collars. The tips on page 144 for trimming, interfacing, and pressing collars apply to cuffs, too.

Collars

Collars are important details worthy of careful sewing. A well-made collar encircles your neck without rippling or pulling and keeps its neat appearance while worn. Pointed tips should match. Edges should be smooth and flat.

Dining Chair Slipcovers

These two-piece, optionally reversible seat covers can serve a number of functions: They can protect the upholstery and wood, especially when young children are about, change things up in your decor or add a fun touch to celebrating a special occasion. Choose either elegant lacing with grommets for a decadent look or buttons for a more tailored appeal. Make the skirt long enough just to cover the seat, or all the way down to the floor. The instructions are for chairs with rounded seat corners: For chairs with square corners, you may place darts in the corners or pleats.

Pillows and Cushions

While pillows and cushions are somewhat different, the sewing techniques for both are mostly the same. The difference most often comes down to size, the inserts and types of closures. Pillows are often smaller, have a loose filling, such as poly fiber fill or down and don’t necessarily maintain their shape.

Flanged Pillow Shams

Flanged shams transform ordinary bed pillows into custom designer pillows. They can be made to fit standard-size, queen-size, king-size, or Euro square pillows. An overlapping closure in the center of the back makes it easy to insert and remove the pillow. Taking Your Measurements

Accurate body measurements are an essential starting point. Wear the undergarments that you normally would with the garment you intend to sew. Undergarments that fit well make the fitting process easier and the final garment more attractive. When taking measurements, assume a normal stance, do not pull the tape tight, but have it rest lightly on the body.

Step 1

Before unpinning the muslin, mark the pin placement (black) and create a new notch on the muslin (green). To create the notch, simply draw a short line perpendicular to the seam. It should clearly show on each of the adjoining garment sections. Then unpin and press the muslin flat.

Step 2

Transfer the new seam placement (red) and the notch (red) to the pattern. Adjust the seam allowances along the shoulder seam and cut along the new cut line.

Step 3

Stack the patterns to true the neckline intersection as follows: Fold one of the pattern pieces along the shoulder seam line; it doesn’t matter which one. Align this seam with the adjoining shoulder seam, matching the new notch. Pin the pattern pieces together. In this example, the neckline seams match but the cut lines do not.

Step 4

To true the cut lines, add seam allowance on the front pattern piece at the shoulder, as follows: Draw the intersecting neckline and armhole seam lines, and add the seam allowances. This is what the pattern pieces look like when finished.

Answer:	size 5/6 may be a little tight, and size 6/7 may be a little big for her. the leotard is very stretchy. you could try size 6/7, if it did not fit, you could return it.

Answer:	Not sure! My girls are 6 (36 lbs) & 7 (38 lbs) and I got them the 140 size. Somewhere surfing around there was a size chart with measurements. I went by their shoulder to crotch measurement.
