Though I haven't tried this rack on my disc brake bike it looks like it could work with some but not all disc brake forks provided you have the fork brake mounts as has been mentioned. If you have brake mount bosses for canti or v go for it, it will probably work. As someone else mentioned Minoura does not recommend for installation on a disc brake bike and would suggest the MT SF model. Excellent steel racks BTW. Fruit, bread, random groceries, 2 lbs? So I'd say about 15-20 lbs worth in one basket? I have a hanging scale, I'll try to weigh it sometime and post back. I suppose with a super heavy load the welds of one the two hooks that hook over your bike rack might break, if jarred. If you wanted to make it more burly, instead of just resting the hooks over your bike rack rail, you could use a metal hose clamp to attach the top edge of the basket to the bike rack rail, but then you lose the ability to lift the panniers off and on quickly, which is really the key point to these IMO--easy to lift off and bring into the grocery store, and pack them up directly, no need for bags. Then at home, lift them off and take them right inside to unpack. Also great that it has the bottom with finer mesh, that way smaller loose stuff (candy bar) can be packed and won't slip out. |
