I wore them to a water park and walking around on the concrete my feet did not hurt at all when ordinarily they would. i highly recommend these!

Answer:	I think light hiking on smooth trails would be fine anything else I wouldn't trust them. They are made of mesh and would not in anyway protect stubbed toes on uneven trails with lots of rocks and could collect grainy bits easily. I question if they would be durable enough for a solid hike. We used them in a setting where our activity level was close to a rigorous hike but on manicured paths. The shoes did allow some sand in at the beach but the water cleared it out well. We hike as a family often and I wouldn't wear these apart from novice heavy trafficked trails. If I try them hiking I'll update this to let you know how that worked for me.
