Answer:	I have the silcone plastic cases. The are skin tight covers over the iphone. It does form a sort of grip and prevents the iphone from sliding and slipping out of hand or away without some bounce or grip. As far as "protective" I can only guess that the covers would protect the exterior of the iphone. The face screen is unproctected.
