User questions & answers
Question: | Could i use this to keep my phone charged when i camp out for star wars seats |
Answer: | I just come back from camping and this solar panel works great i charge 2 cellphones and a 10 inch table and battery backup in direct sun light charge faster |
Question: | could i use both usb ports on the solar panel to maximise charging to one device? any built-in intelligence to combine both USB ports when one is used |
Answer: | Solar panels are rated for the best possible case of 1,000 w/m2 solar irradiance. I tested this panel in N CA using a Pyranometer to measure the actual solar irradiance over a range of conditions and electronic instrumentation to measure the solar panel's actual output wattage. In summary, even in summer over the case of a day, the solar irradiance averaged about ½ of the maximum possible and the output of the panel averaged 10.82 watts. That input to a USB battery is 2200 mAh at 4.92V. As long as the USB battery used supports this range of input, it will utilize the average potential of this solar charger.Average solar radiation for a location on the northern hemisphere with a latitude angle of 47° - 55°:sunny, clear sky summer: 600 - 1000 W/m² - Wattage rating for a panel is 1000 w/m2winter: 300 - 500 W/m²sunny, scattered clouds or partly cloudysummer: 300 - 600 W/m²winter: 150 - 300 W/m²cloudy, fogsummer: 100 - 300 W/m²winter: 50 - 150 W/m²The EasyAcc Monster 20000mAh Power Bank (4000 mAh Dual-Input specification but, I measured a max input of only 1830 + 1640 = 3470mAh using two 2.4A inputs). It will only charge faster than a conventional battery of similar capacity, such as Anker PowerCore 20100, using a dual wall charger capable of outputting a minimum 2.0 amps out each port or a much larger solar charger that will average 3470 mAh over 6 hours of the day needed to charge the battery. That will not happen using the Anker 21W solar panel which will average ~2200 mAh over 6 hours of summer sun. The single input port Anker batteries will closely max the average output capacity of the Anker 21W solar panel.I frequently correspond with thru-hikers who need to quickly charge battery capacity in the 20000 mAh range. Historically I have suggested a dual 2.4A wall charger in combination with 2 Anker PowerCore 10000 batteries. The measured output on the two ports is 2,600 mAh each. This combination weighs 3 oz. less than a single EasyAcc Monster and provides redundancy to protect against a battery failure. The charge rate for 20,000 mAh aggregate capacity is faster because both inputs accept 2100 mAh versus what I measured on the EasyACC Monster of 1830 and 1640 mAh. |
Question: | Does this product offer any kind of rain resistance? Can it be used outdoors in a rainy day |
Answer: | I left mine outside on a covered porch, up on a chair. It did get wet, not drenched soaked, and it won't work. I'm going to call the company though because I never even used it (this was my first time "charging" it and we got a freak rain come through) and I want to make sure I'm even doing it correctly and didn't just get a bad one. If I did everything correctly, I won't be purchasing another one! |
Question: | I bought Anker's massive 26,800 mah battery the one that comes with Qualcomm Quick charge 2.0 was wondering how long it would take to charge with this |
Answer: | Just a quick note: Anker has TWO PowerCore 26,800 mAh batteries in production (as of 2/2017). One includes a Qualcomm QC 3.0 compatible charging port (& 2 PowerIQ ports), but has only one micro-USB charging port for the battery pack itself (https://www.amazon.com/Anker-PowerCore-Portable-Ultra-High-Capacity-Recharges/dp/B01N3TVRP2). The other loses QC 3 (it has 3 PowerIQ ports), but gains an additional micro-USB charging port for decreasing charge time for the battery pack (https://www.amazon.com/Anker-PowerCore-Portable-Double-Speed-Recharging/dp/B01JIWQPMW). If you are looking for fastest possible charge time for a battery pack while camping, I would recommend you choose the latter model for use with any of these portable solar panels (all of which have two USB connections, as far as I've seen). |

Dimensions (Folded): 245 × 307 × 50 mm / 9.64 × 12.1 × 1.97 in
Weight: 1126 g / 39.72 oz
Solar Input: 24W
USB Output: 12W max per port
Notes
1. PowerSolar can't store electricity directly. You will need a power bank or other power source to store power, or you can connect PowerSolar directly to your devices to charge.
2. Charging efficiency is subject to sunlight intensity.
3. Keep your phones and tablets away from direct sunlight as excessive heat may cause damage.
4. 24W refers to the power of the solar panel, which is not equal to the actual output power of the USB ports. There will be some power loss when solar energy is transferred into electrical energy, so the actual output power of the USB ports will be less than the power of the solar panel.
- Ultra-Thin and Flexible: Built with CIGS, a type of thin-film solar material that offers greater flexibility than other solar cells while retaining durability.
- Fast Charging: Give your phone, tablet, or other mobile devices up to a 12W charge in optimal sunlight conditions with this portable solar charger.
- Charge 3 Devices Simultaneously: With 3 USB-A ports, you can charge handheld devices including phones, tablets, and earbuds—all at the same time.
- Stable Solar Charging: Automatically resumes charging if the solar panel moves from a shaded area to a sunlit area for a smoother charging experience. You can also use the built-in stand to angle PowerSolar towards the sunlight.
- What You Get: PowerSolar Flex 3-Port 24W, welcome guide, our 18-month warranty, and friendly customer service.

User questions & answers
Question: | Is it waterproof |
Answer: | Not waterproof, but it can handle a brief rain shower or morning Dew. |
Question: | I have heard that charging off a panel can damage phone batteries because current is not stable. Does this device stabilize the current |
Answer: | Electrical engineer here with experience on phone power systems: As long as there is enough power to continue charging there will not be problems with variations at the speed solar cells vary. Every modern phone has a microprocessor handling the charging current and will adapt to varying input - they have to because modern batteries are pretty picky. The one problem case is if the solar cell gets enough power to charge for a short time, then insufficient power, and it cycles like that. Activating and deactivating the charging system can actually DRAIN power because it takes some power to get the power management up and running (it bootstraps if the battery is completely empty). So if you somehow have regular shadow/light cycles of 2 seconds (putting it right under a flag in just the right wind maybe?) you could get strange things happening. |
Question: | The 8W and the 15W look the same. what is the difference between them |
Answer: | Besides the difference in amount of watts produced by the panels (8W vs 15W), the other differences between these two models is physical size, weight, and output. Both models are a tri-fold design however their lengths and widths vary. The 8W model weighs 13.8oz (390g) and the 15W model weighs 12.5oz (355g). The 8W model's size is 230 x 160 x20mm / 9.1 x 6.3 x 0.8in (Closed) and 490 x 230 x 4mm / 19.2 x 9.1 x 0.16in (Open) while the 15W model's size is 280×160×19mm / 11.0×6.3×0.7in (Closed) and 460×280×4mm / 18.1×11.0×0.2in (Open). It is also worth mentioning that the outputs slightly vary. The 8W model's output is 5V / 1A and the 15W model's output is DC 5V / 2.1A. Finally, the 8W model only has one USB port while the 15W model has two. |
Question: | Do you charge the panels in the sun and then plug in your device? Or do you have to keep your device connected while the sun is charging the panels |
Answer: | Charging will only work when the panels are exposed to direct sunlight at the SAME TIME the device is connected. It won't charge your device when there is no sunlight even if the panels were under the sun previously as the charger doesn't have a reserved storage for that power. |
