Answer:	Yes there really is a difference. The white one has 4 ports all of which utilize iSmart technology. Each port is able to output at up to 2.4A but not more than 8A total at one time. You can plug 4 tablets in at one time and still achieve a charging input of 2A on all four devices at one time. It will not do 2.4A on all four in this case because it maxes out at 8A no matter what.So it will break up the 4 ports into a total of 8A giving each device as close to it's max input as it can get without going over 8A total. The iSmart technology automatically detects your plugged in devices maximum input capacity and begins charging the device at that speed. So you don't have to worry about frying anything out or overcharge. It also ensures the fastest possible charge time. This one is a 40W charging unit. The black one is a 36W and is also a 4 port but only 2 of those 4 ports have iSmart technology that will charge at up to 2.4 A. The other 2 ports are just standard ports that max charge at 1.2A no matter how many devices are connected or what the devices max input speed is. Standard ports are usually used for smaller capacity devices such as cell phones which have a typical input of around 1.2A give or take a little. Tablets are a good example of a device that can input at a much faster rate such as the 2.4A. These 2 standard ports also are unable to detect on their own what your devices max input is. With both models being offered at the same price as of today i would definitely go with the white because it is capable of so much more, including quickest possible charge time. Even if you know for sure all your devices require only 1.2A input max, the white will charge them at that input. Question:	Can you remove the back so it sits flush to the wall
Answer:	Most of the time, receptacles are about 1/8 to 1/4" out from the sheet rock. You can't remove the back of this, therefore it will not sit flush to sheet rock. Not a good design. I don't like the gap between the wall and this unit.
Question:	Can you keep the usb charger plugged in even if you are not charging a device
Answer:	Yes sure you can keep it plugged in. The USB port is controlled by smart IC, It will use almost zero energy when not charging.
Question:	is this UL listed
Answer:	No, it is not. ETL listing is less generally/broadly considered stringent than UL listing, though there are standards in place.
Question:	How do you know of any of the surge suppression components have been blown? Good quality surge suppression gives a status light. Does this one
Answer:	If the surge protection components are not working, the night light and USB ports will lose power and stop working. So if they’re working fine, it means the surge protection is working normally. Our main surge protection component is GDT, which has large energy absorbing capacity, and is very durable.

What causes an electrical surge?

In stormy weather, when thunder happens close to the transmission line, the conveying circuit will create induced surge voltage. This can also occur when a large electric device is turned on in the power circuit. Both types of induced surge voltage can interfere the electric devices connected. The first type can damage the devices.

Frequently used surge protection components

Surge protectors can be added to the power circuit to prevent the damage. The surge protectors are constructed with different types of surge protection components. The most frequently used ones are MOV, GDT and TVS. MOV has medium energy absorbing capability and response time, so it is widely used in simple surge protection circuits. GDT has large energy absorbing capability but longer response time; TVS has response speed less than 1Ns with small energy absorbing capability. All three of them are used together to construct professional surge protection circuits.

POWRUI 3-Level Surge Protection Circuit

POWRUI is one of the few Surge Protector makers which uses TVS, MOV and GDT to make 3-Level Surge Protection Circuit that absorbs the energy in steps, providing the best protection of the electrical devices from voltage spikes. When the power surge occurs, TVS responses within 1ns to suppress the unwanted voltages to the safe threshold. Then after several ns, MOV starts to continuously absorb energy. Within a few hundred ns, GDT works to ground a large amount of surge voltages, then triggers the circuit breaker to break the circuit and completely protect the devices.

The advantage of this kind of circuit is large energy absorbing capability which could reach 1,000 – 10,000 joules with <1ns response time. But the cost is high.

Other Brands 1-Level Surge Protection Circuit

Most of other surge protector makers use 1-level MOV parallel circuit, that connects multiple MOV components with surge protection functions to certain joules. The advantage is simple circuit and low cost which can meet the surge protection needs to under 1000 joules. But the energy absorbing capability is low with slow response time, that can only be used on basic surge protector.

Simple installation, just plug in: Just plug in for duplex outlet and decor outlet. The screw included can be used to secure it on duplex outlet. The plastic prong at the bottom is for reinforcement purpose also.
