Answer:	I wouldn't say there's no reason AT ALL... but it's probably not the best value proposition going from already 2nd gen to the 3rd if you're doing fine with it. There are hardware benefits to the 3rd gen behind the scenes though, and only if these matter to you, then weigh the options: - The 3rd generation of course has a better speaker that's slightly more powerful, but more importantly - better oriented to radiate 360º sound that's fuller and less hollow sounding than the directional-based 2nd gen's. (I don't care about listening to music on it... it just makes the Alexa robot voice a little less annoying sometimes. - Better microphone array and voice pattern isolation. The 2nd gen's SEVEN, less-capable mics are hopeless when trying to get it to understand you standing further than 10-15ft and forget it while there's sound in the background... The 3rd gen's FOUR, but more sensitive/accurate ones seem to be able to understand what you're saying more often, even from a different room, with less need to repeat your commands, and even with music on a 7.1 theater system turned up pretty loud. - As with most iterative/generational electronic products... slight increases in the onboard computing power are usually always the case (I haven't confirmed this for certain, it's just me knowing how Electronics Development works professionally for the better part of 10 years now), and I can't help but notice that the 3rd gen does seem to process/think through things a little quicker. It's not placebo effect, but other factors like your WiFi connectivity, etc. do have an effect still, there's no shortcut around a slow router or modem. - Not sure of the exact circuitry they changed, but what I was told was the 3rd gen connects to Bluetooth in a much different way... at the fundamental, signal level. Apparently, to use a comparison, it's able to do a bit more on it's own just like a WiFi-Direct connection can do, without having to involve as much unnecessary onboard processing. More like a "standalone" feature but not entirely, if that makes any sense. All in all, compared to an early version Google Home I bought my parent's for Christmas... the 2nd gen I had but immediately returned with ~1-2yr newer electronics was like the technological equivalent of talking to a Furby in comparison. But to give Amazon a little credit, they did catch up quickly
