Religious Roots: Traditional gospel music has its origins in African American churches, particularly in the southern United States. It is closely associated with Christian religious practices, often used as a form of worship and expression of faith.
Spiritual Themes: The lyrics of traditional gospel songs typically revolve around spiritual and biblical themes. They often convey messages of hope, salvation, redemption, and a deep connection with God. These themes resonate with both performers and listeners.
Musical Elements: Traditional gospel music is characterized by its use of powerful vocals, strong harmonies, and emotional delivery. Choirs, soloists, and groups all play a significant role in performing gospel music. Instrumentation can include pianos, organs, drums, and sometimes guitars.

Influence on Contemporary Music: Traditional gospel has had a profound impact on various music genres, including pop and contemporary music. Many well-known artists, such as Aretha Franklin and Mahalia Jackson, started in gospel music before transitioning to other genres.

Chanticleer's repertoire ranges through many centuries. On this recording, the group again proves its infinite versatility in a program of gospel music and spirituals. The singing is so authentic that one feels like a participant in a gospel meeting, swaying to the rhythm with the crowd. Contributing greatly to the impact is Chanticleer's guest, Yvette A. Funder. Possessor of a voice remarkable for its range, power, and flexibility, she brings to the music the empathy and authority of one born and raised in the tradition, whether leading call-and-response, engaging in improvisations that soar high above the chorus, crooning softly in meditation, or shouting in ecstasy. (She is also an active Bishop ministering to the poor and afflicted, and the founder of various social service agencies in California.) Several songs include soloists drawn from the chorus as well, most notably a tenor, a countertenor and a bass who provides a rhythmic ostinato. The program, designed for maximum variety of tempo, mood, character and texture, includes many favorite songs and spirituals, such as "Amazing Grace," "There is a Balm in Gilead," "Sometimes I Feel like a Motherless Child." The arrangements by Joseph Jennings, Chanticleer's Music Director for 20 years, are admirably simple and very good; only a few are marred by awkward modulations or overly sophisticated, Hollywood-inspired effects. Most of them are for a cappella voices. Jennings also contributes a new original composition: "Be still and Know that I'm God." Repeating these words like an invocation, it builds a cumulative drama with increasingly wild, elaborate improvisations in call-and-response between soloist and chorus; supported by a prominent piano part that includes solos, chordal and running passages, it ends with a rousing climax. --Edith Eisler

Renowned music expert RICHARD WEIZE presents a new series encompassing an extensive collection of songs celebrating two inventions that changed human life and civilization forever: The ability to transmit our speech over long distances and the ability to preserve that speech on recordings. And just as soon as people began to make recordings of their voices, they began to write and record songs about telephones. In the four volumes of this series, we look at the full range of telephone music (Hillbilly; Blues & Gospel; Rock & Roll and Pop). We examine over 60 years of recorded music, and could have gone on into the 21st century, where telephones (with their evolving features and apps) remain woven into the fabric of popular culture. More than ever before, a world without telephones is unimaginable to us.
User questions & answers
Question: | Is the handle screw in or hexagonal |
Answer: | Basically I don't know what the specific reference would be. In my mind if it's patented it's got to have something to do with the patent office and it's a registered patent that no one can copy. So other than that I believe it doesn't mean anything as far as target performance or product performance as far as I'm aware. |
Question: | how can you change the handle of BG 6500, and which one is fit for that reel |
Answer: | When I shoot at 100 yards I use a scope and rest the rifle on shot bags. Hitting it should not be a problem. The 12 x 18 size is smaller than most silhouette targets so the .308 might make a good sized hole. |
Question: | How do I move the handle to the left without damaging the little screw piece |
Answer: | The small rings are 3-inch diameter with the red bullseye 1/2" for the outside ones and 1" for the head. The rings on the small targets are 1/2" spacing. The target on the torso is about 8.5 inches with 1' spaced rings. I'll try to post a picture with a measuring tape if I can figure out how to do it. |
Question: | Can i use this 4500 reel on a 8 ft medium heavy rod |
Answer: | Alan, this is a single shot. You must pump 6 - 10 times before EVERY shot. |
