Product description

Originally formed in Long Island as Soft White Underbelly in 1967, Blue Oyster Cult combined adventurous lyrical themes with an aggressive instrumental sound. With passion and intelligence on display in equal measure, Blue Oyster Cult became the thinking fan's rock band and a sign of life in a sea of dull, anemic soft-pop. Anthems like "Godzilla," "Harvester of Eyes" and "Don't Fear the Reaper" stretched the boundaries of rock topics while lead guitarist Donald "Buck Dharma" Roeser became a hero to legions of budding axe-wielders. The band's mystique extended to their album artwork, resulting in some of the most distinctive and iconic LP covers of the rock era. Blue Oyster Cult - The Columbia Albums Collection gathers the essential pieces of the Blue Oyster Cult story into one mind-boggling totality.

Blue Oyster Cult - The Columbia Albums Collection brings together the group's 14 official Columbia Records albums--including newly-mastered editions of On Your Feet or on Your Knees, Fire of Unknown Origin, The Revolution by Night, Mirrors, Cultosaurus Erectus, Extraterrestrial Live, Club Ninja and Imaginos--alongside two newly-curated bonus discs: Rarities and Radios Appear: The Best of the Broadcasts (a special collection of classic live performances).

Kind Of Blue (Vinyl)

Product description

Few recordings maintain their power to utterly intoxicate for decades as Kind of Blue does. This 1959 all-time classic is one of the monuments of jazz: So What; Freddie Freeloader; Blue in Green; All Blues, and Flamenco Sketches. This vinyl release is the way to experience one of the greatest albums ever made.

Product features

Kind of Blue

Miles said that he had wanted to draw closer to African and Gospel music as well as the blues, but admitted that he had failed in this intention. Nonetheless, he created his most indisputable masterpiece, containing two of the most popular standards of modern jazz, 'So What' and 'All Blues' On 'Flamenco Sketches,' Miles struck out to explore the harmonic realms of modal music, which he would radicalize ten years later. He also borrowed from Bill Evans, the principal creator of this album, the kind of blue that is reflected in 'Blue In Green.' For the last time, Miles called back the pianist who had just left his quintet, and it was Evans’ harmonic conceptions, inspired by early 20th century European music, that dominated Kind Of Blue.Wynton Kelly, the group’s new pianist, only appeared once, on 'Freddie Freeloader,”'and was stung sharply by this affront: the ultimate touch of bright red to heighten the depth of the blue.

George Szell - The Complete Columbia Album Collection

Sony Classical

Based on 60 reviews Check latest price

Product description

The Szell/Cleveland Recordings Complete! In the heyday of George Szell s tenure as its chief conductor, declared Gramophone, The Cleveland Orchestra had few if any peers among the world s great orchestras. Coinciding with the orchestra s centenary in 2018, Sony Classical is excited to announce one of the most ambitious reissue projects of recent times, a comprehensive collection of the Clevelanders recordings made under the baton of their iconic fourth music director. These span the period between 1947 a year after Szell (born in Budapest in 1897) inherited a fine provincial orchestra from Erich Leinsdorf and began transforming it into the elite ensemble it remains to this day and 1969, a year before his sudden death shocked the musical world. Szell's dream was to create an ensemble that combined the Americans purity and beauty of sound and their virtuosity of execution with the European sense of tradition, warmth of expression and sense of style, in the words of his biographer Michael Charry. That he fulfilled that dream is amply documented in the huge discography that fills Sony s new mega-box of 106 CDs, recordings that are prized for their stylistic rightness, clarity of structure, rhythmic tension, and transparency of texture (The New Yorker). Contained in this vast box are rare mono recordings, some of which have never before appeared on CD, including a Dvo ák New World from 1952, a Beethoven Fifth from 1955 and orchestral extracts from Wagner s Ring from 1956. There are also the recordings Szell made in the early 1950s as guest conductor of the New York Philharmonic, including the Tchaikovsky Piano Concerto with Vladimir Horowitz. There are the pianist George Szell s outstanding chamber music recordings, including Mozart with the Budapest Quartet. There are also substantial interviews with the maestro. But the main attraction of this stupendous new set is the prospect of having all the Szell-Cleveland repertoire under a single roof for the first time and in optimal sound. To collectors that means, first and foremost, the great works of the Austro-German Classical and Romantic tradition, starting with Haydn: Szell has the strings playing with immaculate rhythm, perfect intonation, and just the right amount of warmth in the slow movements. This is, in fact, an object lesson not in correct period style, but in the correct Haydn style ... A landmark in the Haydn discography, and a cornerstone of any serious Haydn symphony collection (ClassicsToday).
