Answer:	Mine is about 15 years old, so dimensions may have changed. The base is about 7 5/8 inches wide and the holes are about 6 1/2 inches apart and a little over 3/8 inch in diameter.

Answer:	It's overall dimensions according to the product's details are: 20-1/2 x 22-3/4 x 20 inches. According to the product's information section: 16 x 16.7 x 23.1 inches
Question:	anybody know whether this machine will work with an auxiliary speed controller ...I think the disc sander spins too quickly for some work
Answer:	Haven't found it too fast for any material I've needed to shape. Better getting the correct grinding discs.
Question:	Can you make the motor variable speed
Answer:	You will need to do a little research, but you should be able make this a variable speed unit. It has a standard 3/4hp 120vac single phase motor with a 3450 base speed. You will need to purchase a 3/4 hp 120 vac variable frequency AC motor controller. Expect to pay about $200 for a controller. My only caution is motors don't like to run below 50% base speed continuously, without additional cooling. However, I would not buy this sander again. The disk is fine, but the belt table has a single trunnion and platen is too light. They are not rigid enough to be useful. The real question is will you be satisfied with it after spending $700. I hope this is helpful.
Question:	What is the country where this sander is made? China
Answer:	I Just spent 2-3 minutes trying to find mfg. origin and found nothing. Based on the quality/price I would have to guess that it is made in China-albeit the best you can ever expect from China. Very heavy. The belt housing and both tables are cast iron. The sand wheel housing is an aluminum casting. The belt wheels are cast aluminum but are high quality looking items and run on sealed ball bearings. I think this is probably the best in its size class for anything within 5x-8x the cost. I use it for everything including grinding lathe tool bits and I am thrilled with the purchase.

Answer:	No battery just a plug in for 115 volts.. maybe there is another model that is battery powered this one isn't. I also wouldn't get one that is battery powered. To run a grinder you need all the power you can get and a grinder this size wouldn't last very long with a battery.

Answer:	Rom my experience it is either on or off. If you want variable speed, spend more money!
Question:	I embarrassed I don’t know this, but how do you tighten the arbor bolts? It seems like one loosens the other and there’s no good way to tighten it
Answer:	Don't be embarrassed - one side of the unit has a thread that is the REVERSE of the other. From memory it is the left hand side as you face the unit and so to tighten it you turn the nut as if you were loosening it. The reason is so the spinning motion of the motor doesn't allow the wheel to come loose. Counterintuitive but it works - enjoy!
Question:	How many watts does this take to run
Answer:	The grinder is rated at 6.25 amps, 10 amps would work fine, breakers are rated in amps, not watts...light bulbs are rated in watts.

Answer:	This grinder is a consumer grade while model 578008 is industrial grade. This has small stamped steel wheel flanges while the 578008 has machined wheel flanges. 578008's wheels will always run truer. Published motor specs can be deceiving, this grinder motor is a consumer grade 120 volt motor, the 578008 is an industrial grade motor that is capable of running on either 120 or 220 volts. Run on 220, the motor starts easier and lasts longer. Dust collection equipment is easier to hook up on the 578008's single exhaust exit vs this ones dual oval exits and 578008 is OSHA compliant with an OSHA approved switch. For Me, for the little money more they ask for the 578008 it's a no-brainier go with their industrial grinder model 578008 watch for discounts on the internet, I just picked up the 578008 for 220.00, no tax and free shipping. Question:	I don't understand the dimensions. how wide is the base? does it come assembled? can we lower the height? does it have screw in glides
Answer:	The base is a triangle that measures about 19 inches wide. It comes dis-assembled. You have to set the top and base on the pole. I have no idea if you can lower the top. I bolted a larger steel plate on the top of mine to accommodate back to back grinders. If you want the base to be shorter, you'd have to cut the pole in the center. I measured about 37 inches from bottom to top. If you are asking if the are glides on the bottom of each foot, nope.

Answer:	mine failed in the first few days. I did not warranty it but instead took it to a shop and had it repaired. it was the motor starter they called it. I was very disappointed. tried to take it to my local "jet" dealer here In Portland and he was very rude and said if you don't buy them here you cannot warranty them here. he sells tools and I own a large mechanic shop. I have bought tools from him in the past. I can tell you I will never again spend so much as a dollar in his store. sorry you're having issues but at least your lasted longer than mine. no issues since though

Answer:	I own a 10" Jet Grinder.....I can describe the 10" grinder looking much like the 8" or 6" grinders. I won't say what size is showing in the picture.My experience with Jet Grinders began about 1 year ago so older models may have different appearances.
