A halogen bulb is a type of light bulb commonly used in desk lamps and various other lighting fixtures. It is a variation of incandescent lighting technology that offers some advantages over traditional incandescent bulbs. Here are some key points about halogen bulbs for desk lamps:
Incandescent Technology: Halogen bulbs are a type of incandescent bulb, which means they produce light by heating a filament wire until it glows. However, they have a small amount of halogen gas inside the bulb that helps improve efficiency and extend the lifespan of the bulb.
Bright and Warm Light: Halogen bulbs produce a bright, white light that is often preferred for reading and tasks. The light they emit is similar in color temperature to natural daylight, which makes them suitable for desk lamps where good visibility is important.
Energy Efficiency: Halogen bulbs are more energy-efficient compared to traditional incandescent bulbs but less efficient than newer technologies like LED (Light Emitting Diode) bulbs. They can provide more lumens per watt compared to incandescent bulbs, resulting in energy savings.
Longer Lifespan: Halogen bulbs typically have a longer lifespan than traditional incandescent bulbs. They can last for around 2,000 to 4,000 hours, depending on the specific bulb and usage.
Dimmable: Many halogen bulbs are dimmable, which allows you to adjust the brightness level according to your needs. This feature is useful in desk lamps where you may want to customize the lighting for different tasks.
Instant On: Halogen bulbs provide instant full brightness when switched on, unlike some other energy-saving options like compact fluorescent lamps (CFLs) that may take some time to reach their full brightness.
Heat Generation: Halogen bulbs can get quite hot during operation, so they require proper ventilation and care to prevent overheating. Avoid touching them with bare hands when they are on, as the oils from your skin can cause the bulb to fail prematurely.
Bulb Types: Halogen bulbs are available in various shapes and sizes to fit different types of desk lamps. Common base types include E26 (standard screw-in), G9 (bi-pin), and others.
Replacement: When replacing a halogen bulb in your desk lamp, it's essential to ensure that you choose a bulb with the same wattage and base type as the original bulb. Consult your lamp's manual or markings for specifications.
Disposal: Halogen bulbs should be disposed of properly. Many regions have recycling programs for halogen bulbs due to their small amounts of halogen gas and other materials.
In summary, halogen bulbs are a popular choice for desk lamps due to their bright and warm light, energy efficiency compared to incandescent bulbs, and versatility. However, they are less energy-efficient than LED bulbs, which are becoming increasingly popular for their long lifespan and lower energy consumption.

User questions & answers
Question: | I can only hit two where I live. Is the extra 3 watts going to gain any range |
Answer: | ANTENNA ANTENNA ANTENNA The extra watts will do less to improve transmission and reception than a quality antenna. As others have said, to increase your signal strength at the receiving radio by one S unit you have to quadruple the power output. The difference between the UV-5R standard radio and the "8 watt" "high power" radios is only a doubling of power. If you are on the move use the Nagoya 771 antenna (and watch you don't poke out your eye). If you are stationary, a homebrew 2 meter dipole or the Ed Fong antenna will significantly improve your transmission and reception. Amateur Extra HAM instructor VP local HAM club |
Question: | what kind of range can I expect |
Answer: | With the included antenna, you will get about 10 kilometers on open area land. About 5 kilometers in suburban settings. In urban settings, aabout a kilometer or two. In a boat, a bit further than 10kilometers. With the Nagoya extended antenna, you can make 20 kilometers, more or less, on open ground. However, use an external antenna on the roof of a building and you can double that range! Power does increase range. But, antenna increases range far more than more power. |
Question: | I am trying to receive frequencies in the 800mhz range but it will not allow me to enter |
Answer: | You can program these for whatever frequencies you want by downloading CHIRP and modifying the radio drivers with a text editor... Then just change the frequency range to 900mhz or whatever you want... I would not suggest trying to transmit at those frequencies but people have had some success with receiving frequencies out of band that way... You may also want to try an RF downconverter if you would rather go the hardware way instead of the software way... More info at http://www.brickolore.com/2012/05/baofeng-uv-5r-extreme-receive.html |
Question: | Which frequencies will I be required to become licensed for? How do I know which repeaters I might use and their associated membership fees? Thank you |
Answer: | You cannot use this radio in any unlicensed frequency. It is not type accepted for any radio service and is therefore illegal to sell, advertise, market, or ship to anywhere in the US. It is probably legal to use in a Ham band if you have a ham license. Ham licenses come with some great benefits, such as being able to use un-aproved radios, it is well worth the effort to get one. BTW, I have two of these radios. They work about as well as a UV-5R, of which they are a derivative They just over-powered a 5 watt radio to make it spit out 8 watts. It gets you VERY little extra distance and the transmission is really really dirty. It blows all over the 2 meter bands. If you want to see what the FCC does to out of service marketing Google "FCC DA-18-980A1". This radio has no legal use in the US except on the ham bands by hams. It is very illegal to use for MURS and FRS, and not even OK for FMRS. It transmits so dirty it is pretty obvious to anyone with a good HR rig with a display or an FCC truck that you are using a BF-F8HP. It's got a rather unique signal signature. If you want a Baofeng get one of these. They are all certified part 90 which makes them legal to sell and ship, and no questions about using them for Ham use. And get a ham license, it really opens up your options. User questions & answers
Question: | Will i be able to program frequencies using chirp software |
Answer: | Sure, you can, CHIRP recognizes this model as BF-F8HP as the driver is the same. |
Question: | Will this be sufficient to contact draw bridges while aboard our sailboat |
Answer: | I think it will as long as they broadcast on UHF or VHF. It works in some state parks to contact the ranger stations. That is the best I can answer not 100% sure. |
Question: | Can this unit be setup like a scanner and monitor police and fire band or frequencies |
Answer: | It just depends on whether or not your Police/fire/EMS agency operates on the frequencies covered by this radio or not. Many do. Many have also moved over to digital systems. Near my house, the county Sheriff's dispatch and several fire/ems outfits do as well. In the neighboring county, they have moved to digital and I cannot monitor them with this radio. Because this radio covers a wide swath of amateur and professional VHF and UHF bands, you can probably pick up some area businesses, farms, municipalities, railroads, schools, utilities etc. Listings are available online. |
Question: | How long does one battery last |
Answer: | I've run them 16 hrs straight between charging in temps below 32 degrees. |

User questions & answers
Question: | Can the programming be done on an Apple Mac |
Answer: | Yes it can and it's relatively straightforward IF you have the right cable. You need CHIRP http://chirp.danplanet.com/projects/chirp/wiki/Download (get the latest daily build) and then you need this cable: http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B00HUB0ONK/ref=oh_aui_detailpage_o01_s00?ie=UTF8&psc=1. The beauty of this particular cable is zero drivers are needed, the Mac (at least Yosemite) automatically recognizes it. I wrote about my experience on this at my blog: https://chris.gonyea.com/2015/03/setting-up-a-baofeng-uv-5r-2-chrip-on-my-mac/ |
Question: | Can I get basic NOAA Weather stations on this everywhere (or, everywhere 'within reason |
Answer: | Yes. NOAA uses 7 frequencies from 162.400 to 162.550 MHz. You can check the National Weather Service website at for specific frequencies used in your area. There are over 1000 stations, covering all 50 states. Most NOAA stations operate with fairly high power, some with as much as 1000 watts, so they should be very easy to hear. |
Question: | If you transmitt with this unit how can effected partys trace to the source |
Answer: | Bottom line is this: If you can put out an RF signal you can be found. Yes many variables go into finding the source and they can find moving signals also. Tens of Thousands of hams and or T-Hunters or Transmitter Hunters are around the globe. If you screw around with the HAM bands you will get caught.Get your Ham license it's easy and enjoy the hobby. |
Question: | Can this be used as a FRS 2-way radio |
Answer: | Reasons this makes a good "walkie talkie" (even though it is a HT - Handy Talkie 1) Removable antenna - can upgrade your antenna for your specific needs/significant improvement to performance 2) Can program the channels - not just FRS/GMRS channels 2a) Can set adjust power levels to more legal levels 2b) Can program NOAA freqs giving more value 2c) Can use/listen MURS (Multi Use Radio Service) - license free but kinda like GMRS 2d) Can set channels to receive only so nobody transmits channels they should not (NOAA) 2e) Can listen to school bus drivers, some fire departments and anybody else who uses radio (see 2d) 3) Can get test free GMRS license to legally use GMRS at full handheld power 4) Can get you a HAM license (technician class) and program Amateur UHF/VHF channels - impress your friends and ladies at bars 5) Can monitor two channels at once 6) Lots off menu options - customizable 7) Will learn about radios, "bands", frequencies and other cool stuff 8) Has more power than most walkie talkies - i.e. better range - especially if you upgrade the antenna Reasons this DOES NOT makes a good "walkie talkie": 1) To program you need to purchase the programming cable and to download CHIRP (freeware). Of course only one cable is needs for all the radios 2) Have to read instructions, try stuff on computer/radio and have it not work and you need to figure out why and maybe a youtube video or two. |

User questions & answers
Question: | If I order this now, will I receive a new unit that does not have the bug where it has to be returned to Uniden to fix |
Answer: | *IF* the seller returned his stock as they were instructed to, all current stock should be fixed. Only the seller would know that. You would have to contact them directly before purchase. I would *think* all the old stock with the bug has been sold by now, as everyone was sold out for a few weeks during the recall. Id think its safe now. Even if you got the old version, Uniden will swap it with a new unit, and give you a 3 year extended warranty for your trouble. Not to shabby. Since I see the seller answered already, just disregard my comments and grab one! |
Question: | can you power this unit from the usb cable in the car |
Answer: | The Unit cannot be powered from the USB cable the scanner comes with a cigarette lighter adapter and hardwire cable to connect to a car battery. You can use either one of those cables to power the unit but the USB cable is for data transfer only for this scanner. |
Question: | i had read that all you have to do is put your zip code in and your good to go is that true or not |
Answer: | Yes that is true but I also use program ARC536PRO to help me monitor what I receive. This receiver is great. The Zip code is all you need to get started. I learned a lot from YouTube video's. Have fun :-) |
Question: | Has Uniden fixed the WiFi dongle or Add the siren app yet? It has been a year since this thing came to market and still no updates |
Answer: | I purchased the BCD536HP scanner and the BC-GPSK antenna. From my view point this is nothing but a big fat lie from Dan M.This App was a MAJOR selling point of this unit; the scanner even comes with the Wi-Fi dongle; the package even shows the Wi-Fi dongle on it!It's been over a year? REALLY?!? .....REALLY?!?!I would recommend no one buy ANYTHING from Uniden until they keep their promise on the MOST expensive scanner system they have ever sold. I know I'm over $600 into it and it still isn't complete. |

User questions & answers
Question: | Can even the frs work on hp |
Answer: | From page 63 of the UV-82HP manual available online. "You may be tempted to use FRS, GMRS, MURS (in the USA) or PMR446 (in Europe) frequencies. Do note however that there are restrictions on these bands that make this transceiver ILLEGAL for use" Don't follow the advice, based on personal opinions of those who know little about radio communications and even less about the law. |
Question: | can alert tones from fire and ems be programed into this radio |
Answer: | When fire and ems transmit they automatically send out a tone before they start talking. You can look up the RadioReference dot com website (click Databases) and it will give you the frequencies for fire and ems by state. Texas gives the tones before broadcasting the audio. I would assume the rest of the country does the same. It may be the law to broadcast tones, but not sure of other states. Try it and see. I use a UV-82hp and the tones are automatic. |
Question: | Can you switch the backlight on and off manually? the automatic on/off drives me crazy(er |
Answer: | Using CHIRP, you can extend the backlight time out. |
Question: | Which would you recommend more, this uv-82hp or the bf-f8hp |
Answer: | I own both. Offhand I prefer the feel of the UV-82HP. Same with the keypad The BF-F8HP feels "overstuffed". Advantage of the UV-82HP is the Dual PTT - Toggle up tor transmit on A and toggle down to transmit on B. Very nice for dual channel use Disadvantage of the UV-82HP - MUST reboot to change between channel and VFO mode. I don't do that much - but it's annoying. Menus pretty much the same. I have become the "radio man" for our Boy Scout Camporees - and the BF-F8HP has a very nice bulk charger available. One base 6 or 8 radios. For a "field deployment" one power and one base sure beats 6 to 8 bases, cables, power warts. For that more than anything I've been procuring more BF-F8HP and that's what the staff is familiar with. I sure wish there was a bulk charger base for the UV-82HP. |

Note: The BaoFeng UV-82HP allows you to synchronize the PTT button to re-enable a single Push-to-Talk switch. This simplifies the use for those who require only one frequency to talk on.

The UV-82HP is a major update to the previous UV-82 model with firmware, hardware, and even packing upgrades.
There are a variety of BaoFengs models in existence, but generally no differences exist. Some models are even re-manufactured units.
No matter the model number BaoFeng radios are based on one of these chipsets.
The UV-82HP is a upgrade from the UV-82 and UV-5R series with the addition of features, power levels, and the updated chipset revision that supports the High Power.
Versatile Radio
The UV-82HP also includes: External Accessory Compatibility, FM Radio, Flashlight, Emergency Alarm.
The UV-82HP has one built-in receiver but can 'watch' two channels/frequencies (semi duplex). The UV-82HP will monitor both frequencies giving priority to the first station to receive an incoming call.
The UV-82HP supports CTCSS, DCS, and DTMF calling methods. Tone calling (private line) is required by most repeater applications and the UV-82HP supports the latest standards.
The UV-82HP can send DTMF tones. This allows for sending ANI (Caller ID) or remote commands that require DTMF tones.
The UV-82HP is able to Transmit on Narrowband (12.5kHz) and Wideband (25kHz).
BaoFeng UV-82 Series Radio
The UV-82 series is BaoFeng's most commercialized radio series. Compared to the UV-5R and other previous series; the UV-82 radios come with a much louder speaker (1 watt), while other current BaoFeng radios use a 700mW speaker.
The UV-82 series radios also have a more solid case that employ larger buttons as well compared to the previous BaoFeng series. The UV-82HP uses the latest BaoFeng chipset and PCB board that outperforms the range, accuracy, and output of the previous BaoFeng chipsets.
It is not simply a remake but a new radio from the ground up.

User questions & answers
Question: | Is this one a 5 watt or 8 watt ham radio |
Answer: | The Tenway that I received is able to transmit low/med/high power and is supposed to be 8watts on high. I don’t have the equipment to test it but did verify there are 3 transmit options. Based on that I believe it is the 8 watt version when in high. Hope this helps. Radio works well so far. |
Question: | do I need a license to operate this radio |
Answer: | No license required to listen but any transmissions on frequencies other than FRS require a license. This radio can be programmed for FRS. |

User questions & answers
Question: | Does this radio have low power settings |
Answer: | There is a RF Gain and RF Power |
Question: | Will the export mod allow 11 meter with SSB |
Answer: | Yes, I am aham and I go back and forth between 10 and 11 meters AM, FM and SSB, with no problems at all. It takes gime to learn how to use all tghe features of this radio, but I am extremely pleased with it. Just be sure to use a proper power supply, good quality coax and connectors, and a GOID antenna. |
Question: | Do you need a license on shortwave car radios |
Answer: | One person below claimed this is a "CB Radio". That claim is not accurate. This radio, unmodified, operates in the 10 meter and 12 meter bands, which requires a General Class, amateur license to fully operate. It is a genuine "Ameteur Radio", not a CB. CB, ie Citizen's Band, is the 11 meter channelized band, does not require a license to operate, and is limited to 20 watts. This radio exceeds output limitations for Citizen's band, and is not legal to operate on 11 meter (CB) even if you are licensed! One can modify this radio to also operate in the 11 meter frequencies, but this would violate the FCC's type-classification for which this radio is certified. In other words, it would be illegal, and could result in a rather hefty fine. Licensed Hams should take note: having an amateur license does not confer any additional privileges on the Citizen's Band. Your best bet is to just get your ham license. Reasonably intelligent people can use the free study guides for 2-3 weeks, and get their General license for about $15-$30 (and it's good for 10 years). If you don't have the inclination to do that, just get a CB. |
Question: | So, just to be sure, this not a CB Radio |
Answer: | I just got mine. It covers all of 12 meter amateur radio band and all of 10 meter amateur radio band. I found no OFCOM CB channels in it. It has a great receive for 12 and 10 meters. I would not mind hearing 11meter CB from it. But it probably would not transmit on the 11 meter CB band. Besides, I have a very old CB in my Jeep and I rarely hear anybody. If there is a reprogramming you can do to bring 11 meters receive to the radio, I do not think it is worth it. It does have a data port. Perhaps that is the answer. |

User questions & answers
Question: | I just ordered this radio last night. i know the stock antennas are never great on any talkie. what is a good antenna i can order here on amazon |
Answer: | Reviews of this radio (and my experiences after purchasing) point to the stock antenna being rather good. I do have a Nagoya NA-771R and a NA-701 but tend to use those antennas with other radios because the stock one with this radio was decent. I'm sure 3rd party antennas are better but they won't be far better than the stock one with this radio (fortunately). |
Question: | Will this radio pair with Apple Airpods using Bluetooth |
Answer: | Yes, it will pair with Apple Airpods using Bluetooth and any other Bluetooth audio device. Daniel with BridgeCom Systems. |
Question: | Are transmissions encrypted |
Answer: | According to Part 97, a station holding a Amateur License can not encrypt messages. Doug - K7AEZ |
Question: | Can i hear the air bands |
Answer: | Hi, the radio cannot as the receiver does not go that low. It only goes to 136 and the air bands are from 108 to 128Mhz. |

User questions & answers
Question: | Does this radio have a programming cable included |
Answer: | No cable included |
Question: | What is the range for this radio |
Answer: | Range for ANY transceiver is something that depends on a number of things. Power, line-of-sight, weather conditions, solar cycles, antenna gain (or loss) are just a few of the things that influence distance of communications. I've had a three of these radios (so far) and the best thing you can do to improve this radio's range is to replace the provided antennas with one tri-band antenna. I've tried both the Diamond and the Nagoya and found the Nogoya to be the best for this particular radio. The Nogoya NA-320A is available from Amazon for about $34. Apparently, the coronavirus is driving the price up for this antenna (due to it being imported from China?) because I gave about half that amount when I bought mine in January 2020. I'd bet the cost will drop back down once international imports start back up. ALSO, be HIGHLY advised that this radio is complicated AT BEST to program from the keypad. It's way better to buy the programming cable from Baofeng. There are many low priced cables out there starting at about $12. DO NOT BUY THESE. Use ONLY the cable recommended by Baotech, the BTECH PC03 FTDI. Most others will have driver incompatibilities and will result in much less that satisfactory results. The BTECH PC03 FTDI programming cable was from Amazon for approximately $20 but I see it's now unavailable from Amazon, probably due to it being manufactured in China as well. All in all though, I DO recommend this radio to those people interested in getting into ham radio. It's a good starter radio to at least get you on air and to see if you like the hobby before you spend $100s or more on hardware. Good Luck! |
Question: | Does this radio have the option to sync the 2 lines of display, so that once it is programmed you can switch channels and you will also see the label |
Answer: | Mine does not. I have bought two of these in recent months and neither of them have the feature you describe. One of the factory supplied manuals of the two radios said it DID have the feature but again, it does not. There are Baofeng models that do have this feature but unfortunately, it appears its luck-of-the-draw that you'll get one that does. Additionally, the Baofeng website is NO HELP on this matter as Baofeng chooses to not support the website like other bigger manufacturers do. The GOOD news is that for the price, this little radio is packed with features that rival other manufacturers' models that costs up to ten times as much. All in all, you get way more for the money with this brand than most other manufacturers. This is not to say that all other manufacturers are ripping off the amateur radio operator, because they offer no only a quality radio but they also offer WAAAAY better technical support than Baofeng can, hence the increased cost. So treating Baofeng for what is, you cannot go wrong buying one if for no other reason, just to see if you like the Ham hobby enough to invest real money in it. Treat it as such and you won't go wrong. |
Question: | Can this radio be programmed with chirp |
Answer: | Yes it can. However, you have to be sure to choose the Radioddity UV-5RX3 from the vendor/radio selection when you go to clone from the radio. It will clone from the radio with the Baofeng UV-5R, but you won't be able to program anything on the 222* frequencies as Chirp will think it's not a tri-band radio. |

User questions & answers
Question: | Are these two way radios |
Answer: | Yes, ham radios. Can be programed for FRS and GRMS frequencies. |
Question: | How do i turn it to channel 16. For marine emergency |
Answer: | You first by a CB radio, then you turn it to channel 16. This is HAM radio. |
Question: | are these made in China |
Answer: | Yes |
Question: | What is the range for these radio's |
Answer: | You will probably need to get yourself a HAM radio license and connect to a repeater for reliable long-range. Think of this radio basically like a cell phone which has a transmit range measured in meters, but the cell phone tower can reach out and capture your signal and send it just about anywhere in the world. Using a ham radio pretty much like the one mentioned here, I can easily hit a local repeater located 40 miles away, that same repeater then pushes my signal 60 miles further, so I can talk to people 100 miles away using the repeater. |

User questions & answers
Question: | Can this be tapped into the 12v rail of a pc power supply (like i do with my lipo charger for rc batteries) or does it need a standalone 13.8v supply |
Answer: | In my tests the unit drew a peak of 10A @ 12.6v = 126 Watts. All PC power supply 12v rails since the 90's are rated for 10A and newer PSU's from the last 10 years are all rated at 28A. So yes any PC power supply 12v rail would easily power this. Really my only question or concern is, if this is only a 60W output radio, why is it drawing twice that? |
Question: | Is this a replacement for the UV |
Answer: | Yes |
Question: | Can this radio be programed with a MAC computer |
Answer: | Yes, with Chrip. For mac. |
Question: | Will this be useful for the zombie apocalypse |
Answer: | The plot line of The Walking Dead would have been massively different (with sweet victory in short time) if the humans had been using UV-50X2s... 😜 |

User questions & answers
Question: | Is the UV-5X3 compatible with the 2800mAh extended battery for the UV-5R? that is, does it PHYSICALLY fit without problems unlike some other models |
Answer: | This is not a digital scanner. It works on analog trunk systems. I used mine on NJ State Police, which is trunked as well as an analog system. |
Question: | What replacement batteries are available for this radio, I would like to have a spare. Is there a aaa battery option for the uv-5x |
Answer: | Yes, if your local police is not using a digital mode, this scanner will get it. Many Highway Patrols and State Police agencies, as well as Sheriffs Departments are still using analog. Some are using Digital but are still transmitting on their old analog channels. However, everything is changing quickly. So what is on analog today may be digital soon, And some agencies may still take a few years to change over. |
Question: | What is the fcc id number |
Answer: | No this scanner will not scan 1300 GHz. It stops at 1300, but it will not scan that frequency band. |
Question: | How many miles far away can be used from other |
Answer: | The Antenna Connection is a BNC Male connection, accepting almost any BNC Female antenna Coax+Connector.Almost any 'Scanner' Antenna you find will have the proper Connection. |
Product features
Display Synchronization
An exciting, new feature on the UV‑5X3 takes full advantage of the LCD's dual line display. In the past the dual display allowed you to monitor two different frequencies at once. Unfortunately, for user's that only wanted to monitor a single channel, the secondary line was of no use... until the UV‑5X3!
The UV‑5X3 allows users, who want to display the most information at once, to synchronize the display. This allows the LCD to show both the channel's frequency and channel name simultaneously. Display synchronization allows the user to maximize the available information seen at a glance!
Modify the Scanning List
A brand new menu allows for one of the biggest conveniences while scanning: Modifying the Scanning List!
Before the UV‑5X3, you couldn't manage the channel scan list without a computer. The brand new menu in the UV‑5X3 allows you to easily add and remove channels from the scanning list. Have a nuicanse channel that you want removed from the scan list? You no longer need to go home to a computer to remove it: A simple menu allows you modify your channel scan list without a computer
Channel Mode Modifications
The UV‑5X3 comes out of the rut that all other UV‑5 series radios are stuck in. The UV‑5X3, built with the amateur radio operator in mind, allows channel modifications on-the-fly.
Previously and on other current UV‑5 models, you were forced to delete a channel and then recreate it from scratch if you wanted to alter any settings.
The UV‑5X3 allows common edits to the channels: Such as adding, changing, or removing the privacy tones (CTCSS & DCS); or changing the power level. You no longer have to delete and recreate the channel over simple channel modifications.
Scan a Frequency Range
Scanning in frequency mode, just became practical! Exclusively on the BTECH UV‑5X3: You are able to scan through a specific frequency range.
Scanning frequencies before the UV‑5X3 required the user to scan the full frequency band they were using. This was not practical if you only wanted to watch for activity on a particular section of the band (such as only 222-225MHz in the above pictured example). The UV‑5X3 will scan at the frequency step you select in menu, which allows you to scan by increments from 2.5 to 50KHz. You can now scan through a fine tuned portion of the receiving band without having to wait and scan the whole band!
