As a very general rule, the higher the grade (the number following the 'N'), the stronger the magnet. The highest grade of neodymium magnet currently available is N52. Any letter following the grade refers to the temperature rating of the magnet. If there are no letters following the grade, then the magnet is standard temperature neodymium. If showering or swimming, just be sure to rinse the bracelet off afterwards to remove any soap/chlorine, etc. It’s also helpful to dry it afterwards as well. Many of our customers wear the bracelet 24 hours a day and never take it off. You shouldn’t have anything to worry about rust. Long term though, it may be best if taken off before swimming or showers, if it’s not an issue for you. If you place the magnet in line with two heavy ferrous pieces with perfect attachment, you still will only be able to pull with 300 pounds. |

Answer: | This magnet is too strong for your application. Why would you choose a 600 lbs pull magnet to hold a 3 lbs birdhouse? Get a 20 lbs magnet. The first time you try to mount your birdhouse using this magnet it will pull itself out of your hands and slam into the steel plate so hard that it will likely destroy the birdhouse just from the impact. The birdhouse pieces will then fall to the ground and you will be left with a magnet stuck to your steel plate that you cannot easily remove. Pull it to the edge and try to twist it off. Wear gloves. If you get desperate and don't mind destroying the magnet then you can use a propane torch to heat up the magnet. At some temperature below red hot it will fall off. When it cools it will regain only a small fraction of its original strength. Should you get the birdhouse attached without destroying anything or hurting yourself then the intense magnetic field could possibly play havoc with the navigation sensory system of migratory birds that might nest in your birdhouse for the Summer... I had a magnet that was 1/3rd the size of this magnet and I accidentally let go of it near a steel vise and when the magnet hit it exploded and shattered into a few big chunks and hundreds of little razor sharp shards. These things will break your fingers. They are no joke. Get a smaller magnet -- a much smaller magnet. |
