Answer:	The motor has a 2 speed pulley, just takes a couple of minutes to change speeds, be sure to use a finer tooth blade to cut metal.

Answer:	Regarding the miter gauge: take the chrome AC duct tape and very, VERY carefully, apply strips the to the side edges of the miter gauge bar until you achieve a snug but easily gliding fit. I use an Xacto knife to precisely trim those tiny strips (3/16" to 1/4") on several of my cheap miters on other tools and it has worked well so far. Also, I only apply the tape to on edge of the miter bar. I build up the thickness of those strips until the miter no longer wobbles in the miter track, then rub some paste wax (I use Turtle Wax Ice) on them; it helps a little with corrosion resistance inside the miter track too. Glides nicely with no slop. This has actually transformed a number of my cheapo miter gauges into something useful and at least 90% accurate for most of my needs.
