Answer:	Absolutely everything about the answer givin' here is wrong!! Even bad! I felt compelled to redirect this misinformation!!! I've been a licensed MUA for 25 yrs. My portfolio includes many years in Vegas working on showgirls. Too much theater and event to list..as well as HBO's Deadwood and the production of Stephen Kings The Stand. Currently shooting for a 'Face Off' spot and hopeful win!! NEVER EVER let your brushes 'soak'!!!. Period. I've never even heard of anyone in this profession that does that. Brushes are a significant investment (unless you're purchasing replicas such as these) and require precise care. The biggest no-no is allowing the head (brush end) to EVER stand in any liquid. If needed, simply give em a 2nd or even 3rd wash. But NEVER soak. Any bristles, synthetic or animal, are going to draw fluids up into ferrule.(metal ring that marries bristles and wand. This is where all the important construction of your tool is !) Getting the binding agent inside of it wet, is eventual imminent death to any brush. ). This is specifically why brush cleaning agents exsist. They clean without soaking brush and any moisture evaporates almost immediately. #2: WHAT??? The odor is from manufacturing.! NOT STERILIZATION!!! NO brush comes sterilized. I'm talking none! Every single one a person EVER aquires should even come with direct instructions to wash THOROUGHLY before use. . I couldn't believe I even read that. These brushes come to the buyer so chock full of dirt, dust and contaminates...you can actually SEE it fly in the air if you run your hand over the head! NO COSMETIC BRUSH COMES STERILIZED OR EVEN WASHED!! And using one without doing these things yourSELF can result in nasty skin infections!! Finally..#3...DONT USE DAWN!! It will ruin natural hair brushes and make them and synthetic ones brittle & rough with a much less life use! NEVER harsh, clarifying detergents. A few drops of baby shampoo is all you need. Or even just a moisturizing bar soap. Ive used Caress on my Hakuhodo brushes for 20 yrs and they still perform as new. Dial is a good one also. It has anti-bac properties but will leave brushes a bit dry. A drop if olive oil on the bar while wet and lathered is a good conditioner. Which brushes NEED if you want them to remain as soft as when you got them. Cinema Secrets makes a SUPERB brush cleaner that eliminates the whole brush washing (nightmare if you have a ton!) A quick dip of1/4 top bristles..wipe clean on a paper towel. Removes EVERYTHING while conditioning AND sterilizing. Nice faint, clean smell left too. And they're dry to use within 10 mins. NEVER SOAK YOUR BRUSHES!!! I hey DO NOT COME STERILIZED! That awful smell is manufacturing residue!! Good grief!!! And Dawn is WAY too harsh!!
