The pad is not specifically marked for which types of brushes should be cleaned in which area because there are SOOO MANY different types and styles of brushes, but trust me on this - when you put some water and brush cleaner on the mat and start working your brushes you will quickly realize which area seems to be doing the best job for each brush. It will be so obvious you will be a little grossed out at how much makeup is in those brushes and that you’ve been touching your face with those yucky yucky brushes. I also recommend using your bathroom sink - put the pad in the bottom of the sink, add a bit of brush cleaning soap (or, in a pinch, a mild makeup remover) and a shallow pool of warm water. Swish the cleaner and water around a bit and then go to town on those brushes! Prepare to be shocked at how yucky the brushes are!! Be sure to rinse the brushes well after cleaning and I then stand the brushes (brush tip up) in a cup. Expect at least over night for the brushes to dry - foundation brushes and the like could take much longer so be prepared. It’s a good pad. Good luck!

Question:	Shouldn’t the brushes be brush side down to dry? You don’t want the water going into the brush
Answer:	The mat worked very well drying brushes standing up. My oval foundation brush did take longer to dry. I am very pleased with it for both cleaning and drying.
