Answer:	Alum has natural antiperspirant and antibacterial properties and has been used as deodorant for thousands of years. Be aware that it has no scent. I also wouldn't use the same alum block on my face that I had been rubbing under my arms...

Answer:	Run the top of the stick under water for 3-5 seconds. Then rub /apply to shave area. Allow to dry for 30-60 seconds then wash off with cold water.

Answer:	When looking at it, it does look like smaller pieces pressed together to form the shape. Works great though. I will say this is the first alum block I have used.
