Under the hood, it seems that everything is very similar but there are a few small upgrades on the 5500: the blade systems are very similar (Dual Precision on the 6100 vs Multi Precision on the 5500), shave time of 40 minutes vs 45 minutes, better ergonomic grip, 2 level power indicator vs 3 level power indicator, new turbo mode, etc. The big benefit of the 6100 is that it's cheaper, and the blade replacements are cheaper as well.

Answer:	The blade is easily replaced with a magnetic, no touch system. They blades are reasonable ($6 retail each) so making it like new is easy to do.

Answer:	The ruler itself holds the fabric very well. You just hold the ruler as you push and slide the rotary. I always used a big quilt ruler with one of those suction handles. I now use this much more often. The one thing I found I need to watch is that I slide the rotary evenly. It can wobble about a sixteenth of inch if you don't slightly push it toward the ruler. It's not a major problem. I really love using it. I am making a very detailed travel cosmetic bag with numerous pockets (Craftsy class) and I am so glad I have this tool. I have cut multiple layers very neatly.

Answer:	No. It does not run when charging. Nor does it run if it's fully charged and plugged in. Unlike 4 previous Norelco shavers I've had, this model does not work as a corded shaver. This is a serious drawback in my opinion.EDIT: I ended up returning this model 2100, and getting the model 3100 which DOES run when it's charging and whenever it's plugged in. Model 3100 costs $10 more ($39.95) and is worth it to have a shaver that works both as a cordless and a corded shaver. To clean the Philips Norelco Shaver 6900 (S6810/82) we recommend switching the product on, rinse the shaving unit under a warm tap, switch off the product, pull the shaving head holder off the bottom part of the shaving unit, rinse the hair chamber and the shaving head holder under the tap, then carefully shake off excess water and let the shaving head holder air-dry completely.

Answer:	Well...the biggest difference to me is the old ones had the flip open blades. My old one would constantly open while shaving, dumping cut whiskers down my shirt. The other differences the interchangeable heads. No pop out trimmer. Now they added a trimmer/beard shaver that is adjustable for length. A nice addition to the shaving system if you sport a beard as I do from time to time. Hope this helps.

Answer:	I`ve owned mine for over a year, and all I`ve ever done is remove the head unit from the shaver and wash it under the lavatory sink spout with warm water. It still shaves as close as it did when brand new. Same goes for the mustache attachment.
