Answer:	I'm not entirely sure right this second of the actual impedance on the Shure phones, but, from what I just read, it's often a really bad idea to run any headphones out of your basic guitar amp speaker or ext. cabinetjacks (which are usually running output to a cabinet or unamplified (or minimally) low-impedance speaker source to bethen juiced by the actual amplifier output etc.; someone warned that you could fry your amp or even the headphones too, or both, since theyare usually a mismatch in impedance/voltage/ohms or whatever it might be. I would say, for silentguitar practice, make sure your amp has a basic headphone OUT of some kind, if possible, and usea headphone adapter plug 1/4-1/8" or whatever is required, for basic silent practice. Or, use a good headphone amp or a Vox mini or some kind of stand-alone practice headphone amp, if possible,which all take basic headphones anyway. I know these Shure 550s are ok with either high poweramps or monitor headphone outs, and also are fine with Ipod and most portable devices, sinceI've already used them with all of those, plus a basic Sony home theater receiver (which has a 1.4" headphone out plug and just have to use the adapter with these. But if it's a guitar amp of any kind, a real one, I would use the headphone out ONLY for practice with these, I would not attempt to run them from any ext. speaker out or cabinet output. The sound youget from the headphone out on a given amp, as long as hopefully it has one, should be finefor practice. As for other methods, you could run some of the newer amps to your PC or Ipad or whatever, and amps through a USB interface, if you have one, and then you can practice, record, whatever you want, and monitor all through these THROUGH the PCor speakers or whatever pro stuff you might have running through the PC...or even directlyvia the PC's headphone out! That's just a suggestion if you have that type of equipment or care toget any. Then you have to have the software though, to practice/record with....Garage Band,Samplitude (which I prefer), Cakewalk, whatever it might be. I hope this helps answer your question! I recently bought a Fender Mustang I modeling amp which has a full headphone output directlyin the amp, at 1/8" minijack size, which is just perfect for silent practice, and also, the newer modelingamps have USB interface usually, so you can plug that into your computer and do anything you likeon the PC and online and use the headphones also for silent play or recording. I would look into one of thosetype of amps, if possible, especially if you're a beginner to intermediate guitarist. My friend bought Ath-m50x and I have got Msr7-Nc. We did compare them with several type of musics (rock, jazz, blues, pop music etc.) and concluded both has unique sound capabilities. Msr7 technically has more clarity and lower bass notes. Visually looks more neutral and compact while Ath-m50x has more noticable up-tones and also is visually more noticable. Aux cables are different as well for both models. M50x has got bulkier, more solid and spring like aux cable while Msr7 has more fit matte cable, which would make it more concenient to listen outside (bus etc.) specially if you purchase the Nc version (noise cancelling). For me both models are different and I would find use for Ath-m50x if I had one but my friend (Bogdan) sold his Ath-m50x after comparing it with my Msr-7 since he wanted to listen to music while traveling via plane or train. Conclusion is if you are willing to use your device in your home-studio then I would recommend Ath-m50x, if you do travel then purchase Msr7 (not necessarily Nc) but its a plus feature. Answer:	The screen is stainless or it would have rusted by now. The part on the strainer looks to be stainless. The rod part is hard to tell maybe a different quality of stainless then the other parts?
