14 best gum antiseptic mouthwashes

Gum antiseptic mouthwashes are a type of oral care product designed to promote gum health and maintain overall oral hygiene. These mouthwashes typically contain antiseptic ingredients that target bacteria in the mouth, helping to reduce plaque, fight gum infections, and prevent gingivitis (inflammation of the gums).

The antiseptic properties in these mouthwashes are often derived from ingredients like chlorhexidine, cetylpyridinium chloride, or essential oils like thymol, menthol, and eucalyptol. These ingredients work by killing or inhibiting the growth of bacteria that can cause dental issues and contribute to bad breath.

Using a gum antiseptic mouthwash as part of a regular oral care routine can help to:

  1. Fight Gum Disease: Antiseptic properties in the mouthwash can assist in preventing and managing gum diseases such as gingivitis and periodontitis.

  2. Reduce Plaque: Regular use can help reduce the buildup of plaque on teeth and along the gumline, promoting cleaner and healthier gums.

  3. Freshen Breath: By targeting bacteria that cause bad breath, these mouthwashes help to keep the breath fresh and pleasant.

  4. Improve Gum Health: The antiseptic action can help in maintaining healthy gums by reducing inflammation and irritation.

It's important to follow the instructions for use provided by the manufacturer and not exceed the recommended dosage. Some individuals may experience mild side effects like temporary staining of teeth, altered taste sensation, or irritation of the mouth or throat. If these symptoms persist or worsen, it's advisable to consult a healthcare professional.

Regular dental check-ups and cleanings, along with a good oral hygiene routine that includes brushing, flossing, and using mouthwash, are essential for maintaining optimal oral health.

FRESHBURST LISTERINE

Just 30 seconds of rinsing, twice a day. That's all it takes when you use LISTERINE FRESHBURST Antiseptic Mouthwash. You'll get 24-hour protection with clinically proven health benefits.

How to Avoid Bad Breath

This is key to fighting bad breath, yet a lot of people overlook it. Ideally, you should brush and floss after every meal. This helps reduce odor-causing bacteria in your mouth. Follow this up with a twice-daily rinse to reduce bacteria-causing plaque. Use an antiseptic LISTERINE rinse that kills bacteria, rather than a cosmetic rinse that just covers up the odor but doesn’t address the cause.

Watch What You Eat

Everything you consume gets absorbed into your bloodstream only to reappear when you breathe and speak. Pungent ingredients like garlic, onions and other spicy foods are some of the worst offenders. So eat more vegetables and herbs--their higher water content will help flush your mouth of debris.

Chew the Right Thing

Gum sweetened with 100% xylitol can also help reduce cavities. Be wary of mints: at best they’ll just mask bad breath, at worst they’ll be loaded with sugar that will just stick to your teeth and add to your problem. Stash handy LISTERINE POCKETPAKS breath strips in your office drawer, pockets and purse for an extra boost of fresh breath when you need it.

About Listerine

Ever wondered where LISTERINE rinse got its name? Dr. Joseph Lawrence, the creator of LISTERINE mouthwash, wanted to name his work after a scientist who paved the way. Lister, an English doctor and surgeon, became the first surgeon to perform an operation in a chamber sterilized with pulverized antiseptic. The result? More patients survived than ever before. Inspired, Lawrence created a unique formulation of his own that was perfect for killing germs in tissues, like your mouth.

User questions & answers

Question: Will this product make my teeth whiter
Answer: It possibly could based on it being a peroxide-based product, and many teeth-whitening products are peroxide-based. That said, I can still only state from personal experience that I do notice a bit of brightness not there before. I use this as a tooth paste substitute more becuase it helps with occassional gum problems and frequent mouth irritations from dental appliances.
Question: does this help with pocket depth gums
Answer: That's a question I would direct to your dentist, but hydrogen peroxide (which this is similar to) is helpful and recommended as a (small) part of a treatment program for periodontal pocket treatment, and used as a home-remedy when dental care is not available.
Question: Ordered 10 bottles and one bottle arrived damaged. But you allow no return. How do I recover the lost
Answer: You need to ask Amazon customer service; they are excellent at helping.
Question: What are the other 90 percent ingredients
Answer: Other Ingredients::: citric acid, flavor, glycerin, propylene glycol, sodium lauroyl sarcosinate, sodium stannate & water. NO percentages given on the other ingredients though! It does relieve the pain and helps heal my Wife's FISSURED tongue problem though! Hope this helps!

User questions & answers

Question: What color is this rinse? Blue/purple rinses stain my teeth. Thank you
Answer: There is nothing noted about animal testing but there is nothing noted on the bottle I have from Walmart.
Question: Does this work just well as the extra medicated one
Answer: I’ve previously looked into this but Amazon couldn’t give me a clear answer when inquired. So, here is the answer I came up with: This product is in the gray zone. It doesn’t look like Amazon actively engages in its own “research and development” in producing Amazon-brand products—which are typically generic versions of existing brand-name products—and this product, too, is merely a straightforwardly-generic version of Listerine. So, I don’t believe Amazon needed to conduct any research in developing this formula. Still, since Johnson & Johnson—the company that sells Listerine—is notorious for animal testing and this product is a derivative of a Johnson & Johnson product, one might say, indirectly, this product isn’t free of animal cruelty (depending on how stringent your definition of “animal cruelty” may be).

Gum Disease & Gingivitis – How Listerine Can Help

Gingivitis is a common and mild form of gum disease that is a precursor to the more serious gum disease called periodontitis. Gingivitis can be so mild, in fact, that you may not even recognize it.

Gingivitis is caused by the buildup of bacteria in our mouths, which combine into a sticky substance called plaque. Plaque infects and inflames the gums, developing into gingivitis. Symptoms may include redness and swelling of gums and bleeding while brushing.

How can you prevent gingivitis, and what are the benefits of mouthwash? The best way to prevent gingivitis is to maintain a healthy oral care routine, including brushing twice a day, flossing once a day, and rinsing twice a day. Good oral care habits keep your mouth clean and healthy; remove plaque, maintain a healthy diet, and see your dentist at least once every six months.

User questions & answers

Question: Difference beteweee this and clinical care mouthwash
Answer: Do not rinse with water or drink/eat for 30 minutes after. That will remove the fluoride the benefits greatly reduced.
Question: Do you only recieve one bottle for
Answer: My kids have never had a problem with the taste after using any toothpaste. I don't think it's like brushing your teeth than drinking orange juice.
Question: Do I just spit it out, or should I rins ed with water after using this mouthwash
Answer: Why does it matter? Water quality. As well as knowing if it is a US product. Amazon doesn’t always know where these products are from. This could be made in China for all we know & sold to look like the real product.
Question: Why would a product used near one's teeth have yellow and green coloring in it? not to mention saccharin
Answer: Children need to be able to swish and spit, so mouthwash for children is not recommended before the age of 6. Occasionally, younger children will be given medicinal mouthwash prescribed by a dentist. If you are on a municipal water supply, fluoride is already added to the water in levels determined to be safe by the EPA. Well water does not have Fluoride so you should consulate with your dentist or pediatrician or family physcian on the best way to make sure your child(ren) have the amount of fluoride they need to help prevent tooth decay.

User questions & answers

Question: What is the total alcohol content
Answer: yes it does
Question: Pack of
Answer: You can, but if you do, you're wasting your money. There are cheaper Oral-B toothbrushes than the 8000 that have essentially the same features minus the Bluetooth and app. I've been using the Oral-B products for about 10 years, and other than those features, being black, and having a much better travel case, it's essentially the same toothbrush I bought over 10 years ago. Same brush heads, same buttons, same charger. The older ones come with a physical clock/timer, however, which you don't get with this model. That said, I'm really impressed with the app overall, minus one major gripe (it resets the the timer when you change modes!), and it's helping me to improve my oral care quite a lot. There's also a "Fun Zone" feature to help kids develop better brushing habits, though I've never used it and don't plan to.
Question: where is it made
Answer: It vibrates once every 30 seconds and 3 times at the 2 minute mark but it does not shut off. My routine is outer left(vibrate) inner left(vibrate) outer right(vibrate) then inner right(((vibrate)))
Question: Ad says 6 but later amazon changed ad after placing order and send just one. Why
Answer: I just received the Oral B 8000 and there are 2 ways to charge this unit:1. The included standing charger (white colored) does NOT support 220v/2240v - it states support for only 110-130v and 50-60Hz.2. There is a second way to charge this unit using the travel case. The travel case can be used with the included power adapter that is a half circle with 2 holes (the entire adapter cord is black colored - I initially missed it). So while the standing charger will not work internationally, the included travel case and included travel case power case adapter WILL support 220v/240v and can be used internationally with an adapter (no transformer needed).
