The layers won't bond, especially if there's a lot of pigment, frost, glitter, etc. It will peel and bubble sometimes. I have had very good results putting regular polish on *top* of a gel manicure. It won't last as long as a gel manicure, but will last a whole lot longer than just plain polish - and the surface will start out glass-smooth, so regular polish will look better and resist chipping.
