The camera works independently, still, you can access it and view the live feed either using a mobile device (Android or iPhone, required for setup) or a PC/tablet.

Any obstruction between parent and baby units will reduce the range significantly. With parent and baby units indoors, the typical range is up to 165 feet. The monitor and camera work together through a radio link and such link might be affected by environmental conditions. Please move the units around the room to try to reestablish the link. Note that when you use that camera in combination with the MBP845connect you won't be able to pan/tilt it remotely using the monitor. This because the monitor doesn't offer that feature.
