Answer:	Absolutely could be used in a hallway rather than top of stairs. The gate includes mounting hardware that easily can be used in the middle of the hallway. We have our gate mounted about 3 feet down the hall from the top of our stairs and that works great. For robustness of the mounting you may want to ensure that you're either mounting to something solid (like studs) or using wall anchors of some sort.

Answer:	Yes it can. Ours is attached to a metal banister on one side. Some responders indicate you need to drill the metal but we are renting and didn't want to damage the banister. There are kits, or if you are good at DIY you can fashion your own. Mine was done by a carpenter nephew who fashioned a long wooden piece on the gate side and attached it with commercial grade fasteners and several extra plastic ties for added safety and stability. The gate is then screwed into that wood. It has held up just fine to an aggressive little two year old yanking on it. As for the baseboard on the other side, our stud allowed us to drill into the wall just above the baseboard and not be more than 3" from floor so it depends on the height of your baseboard, but again, it works great !! Good luck.

Answer:	My 15 month old girl opened it 6 times on the first day we used it. Yes, it was installed properly and the light was green as in "locked". I am returning all 3 of them I purchased as they are a liability. The "2 step" process is not hard to open.

Answer:	The handle that locks the gate has several settings. You have to release and pull up. The gate will then slide freely in your doorway. And then click down into "memory" which gives you inch or so of wiggle room. Then click down again to lock into place. Maybe you just are not pulling all the way up. Stick your thumb between the handle and the gate to release. Pull up and then up again. Does that help??

Answer:	I slipped them between the baby gate and the crumbly brick wall. They seem to work well. If I had thought ahead a bit, I'd have purchased black (or dark) ones, but I didn't really consider it until I opened the box. However they seem to work very well.

Answer:	I have no way of knowing, without seeing what you're talking about. The attachment points are flat, both the movable tension discs, and the discs you can screw to a doorframe. If your banisters are flat, you can possibly tension the gate against those, or maybe screw in the discs. I'd suggest going to the Evenflo web site and asking them, as nobody here will be able to address your particular installation. I'd provide you a link, but Amazon doesn't allow links.
