Answer:	They're right. I find pushing the button on the side of the lid, then flip down the metal clip like device, flip up the top and you are ready to go. Now the thing on the bottom is a pain and fairly useless but I guess they had to go that extra step. I like it a lot, Don't get me wrong. Answer:	Yes the valves and lids fit both and are interchangeable, BUT the new straws and thus the opening where you insert the straw is fatter than the old one, so the old straws can only be used with the old valves/ new fat straws with new valves.

Answer:	I don't know but I doubt it. I haven't found any water bottles that are totally clean. The straws are hard plastic. The lid is hard plastic. I suspect you could change the straw out for Silicone. This was a compromise for us. Small enough for little kids and their school bags, mostly safe/clean, and not glass. As compromises go, its pretty good. I hope you find the illusive healthy water bottle! Goodness knows the marketplace needs more of them for kids!
Question:	Is there a cap or lid to keep the sip mouth piece clean
Answer:	It's a silicone straw with no built out stop piece on it like the hard plastic reusable straws. There are flexible rubber teeth (instead of just a hole or flip top) in the straw area of the cup that slow down removal but don't prevent the straw from being removed all the way.
