12 best gas drops for newborns

Gas drops for newborns are over-the-counter (OTC) medications designed to provide relief from symptoms associated with infant gas, colic, and discomfort. These products are commonly used by parents and caregivers to alleviate the discomfort that can occur in newborns due to gas buildup in their digestive system. Here's what you need to know about gas drops for newborns:

  1. Purpose: Gas drops are formulated to help reduce gas bubbles in a baby's stomach and intestines, which can cause discomfort, fussiness, and crying.

  2. Active Ingredients: Gas drops typically contain one or more active ingredients that aid in relieving gas and discomfort. Simethicone is a common active ingredient found in many gas drops. It works by breaking down gas bubbles into smaller ones, making them easier for the baby to pass.

  3. Non-Medicinal Ingredients: Gas drops may also contain non-medicinal ingredients like flavorings or sweeteners to make them more palatable to infants.

  4. Safe for Newborns: Gas drops are generally considered safe for use in newborns and infants when used as directed. They are often recommended for babies experiencing colic or excessive gas.

  5. Administration: Gas drops are typically administered orally, usually by using a dropper or syringe to dispense the recommended dose directly into the baby's mouth. Some drops can be mixed with breast milk or formula.

  6. Dosage: The dosage instructions for gas drops will vary depending on the product and the baby's age and weight. It's essential to follow the dosing recommendations provided on the product label or as directed by a healthcare professional.

  7. Effectiveness: While gas drops can be effective in providing relief from gas-related discomfort in newborns, their effectiveness may vary from one baby to another. Some infants may respond well to gas drops, while others may not show significant improvement.

  8. Timing: Gas drops can be administered before or after feeding, as directed. Many parents find it helpful to use them before feeds to reduce the likelihood of gas buildup during feeding.

  9. Consultation: If a baby's gas or colic symptoms persist or worsen despite using gas drops, it's advisable to consult a pediatrician or healthcare provider for a thorough evaluation and additional guidance.

  10. Other Soothing Techniques: In addition to using gas drops, parents may employ other soothing techniques for fussy or colicky babies, such as gentle rocking, swaddling, or offering a pacifier.

Gas drops for newborns are a commonly used remedy to provide relief from gas-related discomfort. However, it's essential to use them as directed and consult a healthcare professional if you have concerns about your baby's well-being or if the symptoms persist or worsen.

User questions & answers

Question: Does this need to be refrigerated after opening
Answer: The double sided edge brush is made of boar soft bristles.
Question: When is the expedicion date
Answer: I would use it on a guinea pig. The bristles are really soft on this brush so it won’t pull the hair and hurt it.
Question: What's the difference of this one and Tummy Grip Water? It seems both are for gas relief
Answer: I don't see why it can't get somewhat wet...It is a wooden handle so submerging it frequently might not be in the brushes best interest. This is a very nice baby brush!!
Question: About how long does this last, if I was to buy 1 oz and use it daily
Answer: Idk but this brush is the softest brush ever it's amazing wish I had this for my first son

User questions & answers

Question: Does this have a strong flavor? We tried a store brand comparable to mommy’s bliss but my son gagged and threw it all up
Answer: This response is from RhinoSystems, the manufacturer of Naväge Nasal Care. Great question! The Naväge Nose Cleaner and Naväge SaltPods work together as a complete nasal hygiene system, and a genuine, new SaltPod is needed for each irrigation cycle. Naväge is designed for safety, effectiveness, purity, convenience, and affordability:  Safety and Effectiveness: Having a correctly formulated nose rinse is the key to a great irrigation experience. Sensitive tissue lines the inside of the nose and exposing it to water that doesn’t have just the right amount of salt can cause painful burning and even injury. That’s the beauty of the Naväge SaltPod! Because it is precisely formulated, there’s no burning and stinging, just the refreshing experience that comes with moisturizing and flushing the nasal passages.   Purity: Naväge SaltPod capsules contain two ingredients: salt and water. There are no drugs. The salt is pharmaceutical grade, containing 99.99% sodium chloride with zero additives and fillers. (For comparison, table salt is about 98% sodium chloride and 2% additives, including iodine, sodium aluminosilicate, magnesium carbonate and other impurities.) The water is purified with carbon filtration, double deionization, ultra-violet (UV) sterilization, and a sub-micron finishing filter. The result is super-pure H2O.    Convenience: The SaltPod capsule contains saline concentrate – not salt crystals – and it mixes instantly. So there’s no more measuring; no more salt spills; no more mess. Just pop in a SaltPod and Naväge does the rest!    Affordability: SaltPod capsules cost less than 33 cents each when purchased with a quantity discount. One-a-day use amounts to less than $10 per month for an easy to use, drug-free approach to improved nose-breathing and superior nasal health.    You can contact us directly by calling (800) 203-6400 from 8:30 a.m.-5:30 p.m., M-F, Eastern Time.  We’re here to help! Best regards,     Brittany
Question: What is the difference between gripe water and gas relief drop
Answer: You have to make sure your water is safe so you should boil or use distilled water with all nasal wash products. I just don't like the whole late night infomercial pitch on the Navage. They advertise the product on their site for 59.95 but when you click to purchase it ads the required salt pod for another 15.00 so it's really 75.00. I want to be able to use whatever solution I want and not be locked into their expensive salt pod when there are many other solutions that are much better. The whole thing looks like a marketing campaign and they only offer a one year warranty. Other products offer multi year warranties and have more honest reviews. Found more honest looking reviews on the Navage here:tvstuffreviews.com/navage
Question: Where was this product made
Answer: Yes! The direction of flow is completely adjustable: left to right, or right to left. The nasal dock can be rotated 180 degrees in either direction. In fact, you can even change direction in the middle of an irrigation cycle. In other words, half-way through (after having used about 4 ounces) you can stop, rotate the nasal dock 180 degrees, and finish your irrigation cycle in the opposite direction. Also, please note that due to the nature of the coaxial nasal dock valve, the CLEAN (supply) saline is always CLEAN, and the dirty (effluent) saline is always dirty.
Question: How often does this need to need to be replaced
Answer: I purchased both the Navage & the Sinuplus as well. I am not as impressed with the Navage as I am with the Sinuplus. At first it was because you cannot use the Navage unless you use a new saline pod each time you use it, but after using the Sinuplus I think it does a better job and you can use your own saline solution. Now I just leave my last used pod in the Navage and use the unit to suck out excess water left in my sinuses. Big problem I see is if I ever run out of pods and open the top my Navage is usuless. To answer your question I guess you could stop the process before all the solution is used up and depress the on button and the vacuum would probably work. If I could only have one of what I have, I would choose the Sinuplus before the Navage. My Sinuplus has totally stopped my post nasal drip. I use it daily and would hate to be without it.

User questions & answers

Question: Is there a difference between the day and night versions
Answer: We are happy to send a new one. Please contact Customer Service for NeilMed by either emailing [email protected], or calling our toll-free phone number, 877-477-8633.
Question: Is this also for colics
Answer: Mine did not arrive with batteries, it also died shortly after 30 days, do not trust product to be shipped with any quality control - good luck on the batteries.
Question: The description says both night and day have ginger extract but the box on night doesn’t list it. Can you please clarify
Answer: I dont know if it has been modified. I probably wouldn't use in the shower as some people have... And I would probably consider what type of water you put in it.. they say to boil it so the machine doesn't get clogged with sediment. I could see that like any product it could have issues mechanically if it was dunked in water or dropped, etc.
Question: Where can I get just the nighttime bottle
Answer: I buy this regularly at Walgreens and like it. However many of the comments here are accurate. If you let it set too long it freezes up and won’t run. I think the salt in the solution is a culprit but I found freezing up was issue if it sat too long even cleaning with distilled water (no salt) on final clean after use. I would suggest just running a packet of salt through it every other day minimum even if you aren’t running into your sinuses. That should keep it from stopping. I candidly do not suggest you try to keep these for more than a few months before replacing with new. There is no way to look inside to inspect for bacteria or mold. I tried. Because of that i run vinegar through it 1 part to 3 distilled water. (Only use distilled water not tap water for any purpose). I do that every second week. Shoot into you hand but NOT into nose obviously when cleaning devise. Flush with 100% distilled after letting it sit for a minute or so. Then let it dry. About every month or so, I will substitute run a small amount of bleach 1 part to 6 parts distilled water through mechanism and again shoot into hand to clean. Immediately flush with 100 distilled water after. But after those efforts it is still best to get new one every 2-3 months. The cost of larger irrrigation devices might last a year but that covers the cost of 4 of these. The risk of it harboring bacteria and mold is too great. This cost is still lower than a copay for sinus infection. If periodically cleaned they will shoot far better than squeeze bottles.

User questions & answers

Question: Do these need to be refrigerated
Answer: Id assume as long as it still sealed it would be good until the expiration date. If it has been opened, I believe I read somewhere to discard after 6ish months..but I could be wrong on that.
Question: What flavour
Answer: Our Gerber Soothe Probiotic Colic Drops do not contain added sugar. Please call us at 1-800-255-2164 anytime you have questions.
Question: Is this same ingredients as Mylicon probiotic
Answer: I would assume so. I personally was directed to give once a day regardless of the formula (we had tried multiple kinds) but it is always best to check with your pediatrician first.
Question: My baby is two months old... is he too young for these drops
Answer: It has about 50 servings so I would say about 50 days. I would say that seems accurate for how long it has lasted for me.

User questions & answers

Question: I dont understand the dropper- is it supposed to come out with the lid? It sticks in the bottle when i unscrew the lid
Answer: It’s hypoallergenic to cows milk!!!! If your little one has other allergies or is allergic to coconut you can tell your doctor and see what milk they will have your little one to help assist with that
Question: Do these contain the strain B. Infantis
Answer: Makes 196 fl oz according to what the company states on the can.
Question: How much vitamin d is in it
Answer: The similac formula has a scooper holder underneath the lid, but the enfamil one did not have a visible scooper. When we finally digged into the formula then we found it. The formula is not sterile, so people should not be digging into it to find the scoop.
Question: Are these close to expiration of from a wholesale liquidation
Answer: Yes. It is what we finally found that helped the most. It won’t completely eliminate, but it probably cut it down 70% the first month, and then close to 100%. We ended up using about 5 cans/month. Get it like that on your subscription ordering to save, cuz it gets expensive. By the time our baby got to real milk, she took the real milk fine.

Gerber Good Start Soothe Vitamin D & Probiotic Drops

You do your best to give your little one everything she needs, but only approximately 30% of babies meet the recommended intake of Vitamin D daily. The American Academy of Pediatrics (AAP) recommends parents of babies 0–12 months, breastfed or consuming less than 1 liter of infant formula per day, to give their babies an oral Vitamin D supplement to meet 400 IU/day.

User questions & answers

Question: What is the Expiry date
Answer: It is not recommended as you need to be using distilled or previously boiled water cooled down and those are at pH levels of 5.8 & 6.4, respectively, whereas Kagen water has a pH of 8.5 to 9.5.
Question: Can this be given during day time
Answer: I would say no. The packets are salty so that when you squirt the water in your nose it is ok. I think in a nebulizer you’d just end out with salty sediment or a coating of salt on everything. That said, when I say salty, that is just to simplify. You can’t just pour table salt in water to rinse your nose. I’m sure there is a formula.
Question: How does this differ from the gas drops
Answer: It is hypertonic whereas the regular product is isotonic. Isotonic means that the prepared solution is the same as the natural fluids in the body whereas hypertonic means that the prepared product is greater than the body's natural fluids
Question: What color is the liquid
Answer: It is not recommended as you need to be using distilled or previously boiled water cooled down and those are at pH levels of 5.8 & 6.4, respectively, whereas Kagen water has a pH of 8.5 to 9.5.
