13 best oil extractor

An oil extractor, in the context of a garage shop and automotive tools and equipment, is a device designed to remove used oil from a vehicle's engine, transmission, or other components for maintenance or disposal purposes. It's a valuable tool for automotive enthusiasts and professionals, as it makes the oil-changing process more efficient and less messy compared to traditional methods like using a drain pan.

Here are some key features and functions of an oil extractor:

  1. Suction Method: Oil extractors typically use a suction method to remove the oil. A hose is inserted into the oil dipstick tube or other access points, and a vacuum pump creates negative pressure, drawing the oil into a reservoir.

  2. Clean and Efficient: Using an oil extractor minimizes the risk of spills and oil splatter, making it a cleaner and more environmentally friendly option for oil changes.

  3. Quick and Convenient: It speeds up the oil-changing process, as you don't need to lift the vehicle or access the oil drain plug. This is especially useful for vehicles with limited ground clearance.

  4. Versatility: Oil extractors can be used for various fluids, including engine oil, transmission fluid, gear oil, and even brake fluid.

  5. Capacity: The capacity of an oil extractor varies, so you can choose one that suits your needs based on the size of your vehicle's engine or the amount of fluid you want to extract.

  6. Disposal: Some oil extractors have built-in containers for collecting the used oil, which can then be easily disposed of at a recycling center.

  7. Maintenance: Regular maintenance of the oil extractor, such as cleaning the hoses and the pump, is essential to ensure its longevity and continued performance.

When using an oil extractor, it's important to follow the manufacturer's instructions carefully to avoid any mishaps or damage to your vehicle.Additionally, make sure to dispose of the used oil in an environmentally responsible manner, as it is considered hazardous waste.

Overall, an oil extractor is a valuable tool for any garage or automotive shop, making oil changes and fluid extraction more convenient, efficient, and cleaner.

User questions & answers

Question: do i have to cut the crimped end of the hose to get it to work
Answer: No you shouldn't have to. It comes with two different size hoses, depending on the size you need and they have a quick attach coupler on them with o-rings that attaches to the hos on the tank. Mine work really well and use it for removing the old engine oil out of my boat motor through the dip stick.
Question: What and how do i clean out the pump for storage. Thanks
Answer: Current instructions say to rinse out reservoir, pump, adapter and tubes with "clean solvent or engine degreaser" and let dry thoroughly for storage. To empty reservoir remove main vacuum tube and pour liquid out that opening. Some users suggest also removing the threaded 'cap' on that opening as well, but that's not in the instructions.
Question: Can this product be used to extract gasoline
Answer: I’m a mechanic and I have used mine on all types of fluids. Still works great and for the price it’s a sweet deal. If you take notice, every garage around the country has one of these. They are pretty common among mechanics. I’ve seen 4-5 different brands. I’m cheap so I bought this one after I ran over my last one..:( I have used mine on: diesel, gasoline, brake fluid, gear oil, coolant, all types of engine oil, and transmission fluid. They are usually more expensive. So I’m pleased with the value this has. It’s common for people to put DEF exhaust fluid into Diesed fuel tanks, so I suck out the fuel with this. (After I get most out by jumping the fuel pump)
Question: Why can't I have this product shipped to California? Is it illegal for some reason
Answer: Because California is full of nut jobs.

OEMTOOLS Fluid Evacuators Make Fluid Extraction Low-Stress with No Mess

The OEMTOOLS Fluid Evacuator - Vacuum Pump with 2.1 Gallons (8 Liter) reservoir is designed for the clean and easy extraction of engine oil, transmission oil, lubricating oils, and coolant on a huge variety of automobiles and other vehicles. Perform fluid extractions on cars, tractors, marine engines, small aircraft engines, industrial gear boxes, and coolant and hydraulic systems.

Includes 5 Ft. Flexible Suction Hose and (2) 41-Inch Dipstick Hoses

Simply insert the O-Ring plug of the main suction tube into the reservoir adapter located on the reservoir cap.

After inserting the main suction tube into the reservoir adapter, insert one of the 41" dipstick hose adapters into the 1/4" diameter connector on top of the reservoir (pictured). Ensure all of the tube connections are tight to prevent leakage.

You asked, we listened: our 8L fluid evacuator now comes with 41" dipstick hoses for maximum reach and usability

Automatic Shutoff Valve Prevents Overflow with Flotation Assembly

Extract the used motor oil by pumping the evacuator handle several times to create a vacuum. Once the fluid begins to flow into the reservoir, continue to operate the pump until all the fluid has been drained from the engine crankcase.

When oil in the tank reaches the maximum level, the vacuum is designed to automatically release to prevent fluid overflow.

If the maximum fluid level is exceeded, the automatic shutoff valve will release and the vacuum pump mechanism will float to instantly stop vacuum suction and prevent spillage. The flotation halts all fluid suction.

Leak Proof Single-Piece Body Ensures Maximum Fluid Vacuum Power with No Mess

Our smart design features a one piece plastic body attached to a heavy duty base, and adapters with excellent spillproof fitment to ensure you never end up with oil or coolant on your shop floor.

OEMTOOLS vacuum pumps are also suitable for low viscosity fluids such as water or coolant. No matter the viscosity of the fluid or the pressure applied to the vacuum pump, OEMTOOLS' fluid evacuators are designed not to leak or spill.

Large Heavy Duty Hand Pump for Maximum Power Fluid Transfer

Our manual oil extractors will move as much fluid as fast as you can pump. The oversized heavy duty handle is built to last and will stand up to plenty of force. Simply pump until a vacuum is created and fluid begins to fill the reservoir.

When the system flush is completed, remove the main suction hose from the reservoir adapter. pour the used oil or transmission fluid from the reservoir into a suitable container, then dispose of the fluid in an appropriate manner.

Let OEMTOOLS help you get jobs done faster with one of our brilliantly designed vacuum pumps

Extracts most fluid types: engine oil, transmission fluid, gear oil, coolant, and power steering fluid. Also for use on boats and other kinds of watercraft as a marine oil changer.

Get even more use out of your new vacuum pump with our Manual Fluid Extractor Hose (pictured below) which converts the OEMTOOLS Manual Fluid Evacuators into vacuum brake or hydraulic clutch bleeders. It's unbelievably easy and clean to flush out your brake hydraulic system with our amazing product line.

User questions & answers

Question: what all you guys use to clean the inside of the tank so will not contaminate the clean fluid for dispensing
Answer: I've used mine to pump out hydraulic /transmission oil. I clean the tank by running a pint or so of gasoline through it prior to putting the clean oil in it. This has worked fine.
Question: If you have a tranny (Cobalt 2008 ) with no dipstick but a plug on top so you can get access, why can't you drain tranny fluid through that plug hole
Answer: usually the ones without a dipstick have a 2 piece drain plug. and are more often flushed with a machine and then set level. the inner plug is for filling to proper running height. drain all fluid with the main plug, remove the secondary plug ( it will have a tube on it, that's what sets running fluid level)and install main drian plug. set the mighty vac on dispense and fill with 4 quarts or what the service manual states, start vehicle and dispense until it drips out. replace secondary plug.
Question: Will gas hurt this
Answer: Prolonged gas exposure (similar to an older engine that may have blow-by or high leak down due to older rings) will mix gas with the oil, and is acceptable for usage. If you are transferring gas as the primary fluid, it is not primarily designed for this fluid, as it is less viscous and may have problems starting the pump action. Also, the Buna-N rings will have no problem standing up to the gas, but the bonding agents used to assemble various parts of the Evacuator will be slowly affected by the gas; possible resulting in a leak for prolonged use. Do not store gasoline in this evacuator, that is a hazard in itself. Short answer: No, but with limited use. You may want to save a bit of used oil, and circulate (pump it through) after the gas transfer to make sure the rings remain lubricated. They will need the oil to move easily on the next evacuation.
Question: Has anyone used it to do a complete transmission flush, and if so how
Answer: The idea of using Mityvac is to avoid mess. Yes I used it for complete flush, replaced 3.8 qt of fluid four times within 100 miles, fluid is bright pink even after 800 miles and not a single drop on the floor. Have patience, this thing will do the trick. Alternatively you can disconnect fluid outgoing line to trans, start the car wait for 1/4 of your tranny fluid to be collected, stop the car, replace the fluid with new, repeat 4 times and you are done, but there may be spills and you don't require a MityVac, it just does your job easy and clean. Pick your choice.

Product description

The Topsider's reliability and convenience has long been trusted by boaters for easy, no mess oil changes, and other marine and automotive maintenance applications. No electricity required, the Topsider multi-purpose vacuum pump-out system uses a vacuum to pull oil out of your crankcase. A 12 inches diameter stance provides a stable base, eliminating potential tip-overs and spills, simply slide the withdrawal hose down your dipstick hole, open the valve and wait for 8 to 10 minutes. All of your old oil will be drawn into the Topsider's 8 Quart container. Very easy to use, suction probe and instructions included.

  • Easy to use; powered by vacuum pressure - no electricity needed
  • Quickly extracts old oil through the dipstick tube into the 8 quart container
  • Wide 12 inch diameter stance provides a stable base - eliminating any potential spills
  • Portable - easy to operate in confined spaces
  • No mess from spills or inconvenient drain plugs - used oil and other liquids are stored safely for proper disposal

User questions & answers

Question: Is there an attachment for pouring
Answer: There is no attachment for pouring oil from the Topsider. You would need to remove the cap and tip to pour out.
Question: I need to buy tube that you attach to unit to extract oil do you sell that item
Answer: It's just clear tubing. I think it's 5/16 (8mm). Hardware store/autoparts store. If what you get is too small to fit the fitting, just put the hose in boiling water and push it over the fitting. You'll need to get something to replace the clamp that allows you to build vacuum. Fuel line clamp from an auto parts store or vice grips would work.
Question: Can this be used to extract fuel from a motorcycle or car fuel tank
Answer: I used it to extract oil from my Mercedes ML350 and John Deere riding lawn mower. I would think it could extract fuel also.
Question: The pump on my unit keeps falling off during the pumping process. Any ideas on how to keep it better secured to the tank
Answer: One, do not tighten the cap too tight. If you over tighten the pump cap it will not hold on and will pop loose. The threads on the silver pump cap were not formed deep enough. Two, try wrapping the threads on the can with Teflon plumbers tape or even black electrical tape, several times until the cap fits snugger. This is not a great fix but if not over tightened it will work, remember the pump works on suction. Three, my tank had the blue cap that was original to the can and fit tighter, a hole could be cut in this blue cap to match the silver pump cap (will require removal of pump handle). Remember when pumping the suction pump to hold the pump and NOT the can, the stress from pulling on the pump and holding the can will cause the cap to pop off. The pump is a lever and will put a lot of stress on the cap threads. The instructions describe holding the pump and handle while pumping the suction. Darrell P.E. Professional Engineer

Question: Where is the manual
Answer: here is the manual in PDF form. It is very easy to operate and works great. Goto https://images-na.ssl-images-amazon.com/images/I/81j8gbB-MCL.pdf
Question: Is the pnuematic option that much better? trying to debate if it's worth the additional $30. tia
Answer: No the hand pump is the way to go!!!! For our 2.5 qt mowers it takes just 5 pumps but we do 10 to be safe. We have a cheap pneumatic one that takes 10 min and the 5 hp compressor runs a lot. My mechanic also uses this to remove brake fluid from the reservoir. We also use it to remove old fuel. The main trick is to have the engine oil warm and it will flow much easier/ quicker (not necessary but speeds things along. We also tip our mowers to the fill tube corner to extract most of the oil...

OEMTOOLS Fluid Evacuators Make Fluid Extraction Low-Stress with No Mess

The OEMTOOLS Fluid Evacuator - Pneumatic Vacuum Pump with 1.5 Gallons (6 Liter) reservoir is designed for the clean and easy extraction of fluids. Using either the manual or pneumatic method, this extractor can remove many kinds of fluid, including engine oil, transmission oil, lubricating oils, and coolant on a huge variety of automobiles and other vehicles. Perform fluid extractions on cars, tractors, marine engines, small aircraft engines, industrial gear boxes, and coolant and hydraulic systems.

Includes 5 Ft. Flexible Suction Hose and (2) 41-Inch Dipstick Hoses

Using the pneumatic function:

1) Open the Air Valve on the Venturi to create a vacuum. The oil will flow through the Suction Hose Assembly into the Reservoir until it has all been extracted OR until maximum reservoir capacity has been reached. 2) Close the Air Valve on the Venturi and disconnect from the air source.

Using the manual function: 1) Pump the Evacuator Handle several times to create a vacuum. The oil will flow through the Suction Hose Assembly into the Reservoir until it has all been extracted.

You asked, we listened: our 6L fluid evacuator now comes with 41" dipstick hoses for maximum reach and usability.

Automatic Shutoff Valve Prevents Overflow with Flotation Assembly

Extract the used motor oil with either the manual or pneumatic fluid extraction function.

Our smart design features a one piece plastic body attached to a heavy duty base, and adapters with excellent spill-proof fitment to ensure you never end up with oil or coolant on your shop floor.

OEMTOOLS Pneumatic/Manual Fluid Extractors let you use shop air or the manual pump to extract most fluid types: engine oil, transmission fluid, gear oil, coolant, and power steering fluid. Also for use on boats and other kinds of watercraft as a marine oil changer.

Get more use out of your new vacuum pump with our Manual Fluid Extractor Hose (pictured below) which converts OEMTOOLS Fluid Evacuators into vacuum brake or hydraulic clutch bleeders.

User questions & answers

Question: How about transmission fluid on cars. Thanks
Answer: In my case gas was leaking into and swelling the air filter because of a worn float needle.
Question: Will this work with the Toro TimeMaster
Answer: Yes it will.....you will need to remove one of the parts from your old carb and install it to the new one. It's easy to do, and easy to see what it is. It just pulls out. Once you have it out connect it to the governor rod and THEN just snap it on your new carb. There are utube videos that show how to install the carb but most snap the part in place first and then bend the governor rod. It works, but this is the best and correct way
Question: So does this work for draining oil from a car through the dipstick tube
Answer: Thank you, Jesus Lujan for your answer. I ordered the carb and it fit perfectly on my Craftsman 6.25 four wheel drive mower. Took 30 minutes to install and much faster and easier than installing a kit to rework the carb.
Question: Where or what is the hose clip thing the owners manual tells you to clip off the hose after removing from the dipstick tube
Answer: No it does not

Product features

Step 1: Getting Started

Start the engine and run it until it is warm. Stop the engine. WARNING: Be sure to disconnect the spark plug wire, and secure it away from the spark plug to prevent accidental starting. Clean around the oil fill and drain plug area to prevent dirt and debris from falling into the crankcase (see photo at right). Remove the dipstick, if equipped.

Step 2: Draining The Oil

Remove dipstick, wipe off, and set aside.

Feed hose down dipstick tube until it bottoms out in the sump.

Pump until oil ceases to come through the tube.

Step 3: Engines with Oil Filters

If your engine has an oil filter, replace it at least once per season.

Replace the oil filter by twisting counterclockwise on the body, using a filter wrench or pipe wrench.

Examine the sealing surface on the oil filter adapter for debris or gasket material.

Lightly oil the filter gasket with clean engine oil. Install a new filter, screwing in by hand until the gasket contacts the filter adapter (see photo at right). Tighten the filter an additional 1/2 to 3/4 turn.

Step 4: Fill With New Oil

Pour in the correct amount and approved type of oil for your engine, based on this oil capacity chart , or your operator manual. If you have two oil fill plugs (normally yellow or white in color) on each side of the engine, either one can be used to fill the engine with oil to the correct level. Please do not fill the engine with oil without using the correct measuring device as illustrated in your operator’s manual.

Oil Recommendations

We recommend the use of Briggs & Stratton Warranty Certified oils for best performance. Other high-quality detergent oils are acceptable if classified for service SF, SG, SH, SJ or higher. Do not use special additives.

Outdoor temperatures determine the proper oil viscosity for the engine. Use the chart to select the best viscosity for the outdoor temperature range expected. Engines on most outdoor power equipment operate well with 5W30 Synthetic oil. For equipment operated in hot temperatures, Vanguard 15W50 Synthetic oil provides the best protection.
