| Answer: | The charger has the capacity to deliver up to 32 Amps. The vehicle limits the amount of current which can be pushed into the battery pack over time. I am using this charger with a Ford C-Max Energi. The battery pack has a little more than half the capacity of the Volt and about twice what the Prius PHEV has. Part of the specification for use of the charger connector is intelligence. Google: SAE Surface Vehicle Recommended Practice J1772, SAE Electric Vehicle Conductive Charge Coupler" for more information. I have been very happy with the charger. My installation is outdoors. I hardwired it, mounted on a pole next to my driveway. The important thing to do with any charger is to wait for your charger & vehicle to respond to you pushing the release button on the connector. If your vehicle is drawing power from the charger, the charge light will be on. Pushing the button sends a message to the charger and the vehicle to open the connection. You will hear a contactor (high power relay) open in the charger, and another similar sound from your vehicle. Now you can separate the connector from the vehicle without generating a transient to the battery pack, which could cause a false high voltage warning to be generated in your vehicles status indicating system. |
