Question: | Is it possible to etect for it freon if it accumulates inside the kitchen refridgerator? it smells very bad like acetone gas even empied and ceaned |
Answer: | This AC Refrigerant leak tester WILL find and alarm for Freon., HOWEVER., Freon has little odor AND if your refrig continues to operate properly yet still SMELLS the odor is most likely from a Dead Rodent or Spoiled Foods.!!Ciao...,Jon |
Question: | will it detect R |
Answer: | It detects all halogenated (contains Chlorine and Fluorine) refrigerants. This product is rebadged and sold under a number of makes. The manual for it is here: http://www.elenco.com/admin_data/pdffiles/WJL-6000.pdf |
Question: | a leak detector |
Answer: | Yes, definitely is able to detect 134a leaks. |
Question: | I bought this and the alarm doesn't go off, but it starts beeping really fast, is that also indicating a leak? or does alarm have to go off |
Answer: | There is no "alarm" just very rapid beeping in the presence of a leak. It should start off with a slow beep perhaps twice a second, but I don't own a watch so I'm guessing, and simply turns into a very rapid beeping when it detects Freon. It says that it's supposed to turn to a "siren" but even when I put it near my 30 lb. tank and crack the valve open with the sensor's tip near the valve it just turns into a very fast, (and to me very loud) beeping. I wound up putting my thumb over the buzzer hole and even then had no trouble hearing it. If it starts off with a very fast beeping you may have a defective unit but I would try turning it on outside and away from any possible Freon leak with the sensitivity turned down to it lowest point. You might also want to check out some of the videos on YouTube. I couldn't find one for the Image leak detector but a couple of them might be helpful. |

The SRL8 Heated Diode Refrigerant Leak Detector is designed exclusively to make the HVAC/R Technician's job easier, faster, safer and more efficient. We set out to develop the best heated diode leak detector for HVAC/R. We believe the SRL8 is it. It comes in kit form in a rugged, blow-mold case with all of the extras you don't get from the other guys.
- Triggers on all CFCs, HFCs, HCFCs and blends. More sensitive to some refrigerants than others.
- 15-hour rechargeable, user replaceable battery. It lasts almost two full workdays on a single charge (if your hunting down leaks all day). You can also use it while it's hooked up to the wall or vehicle charger.
- Filter system helps protect the sensor from moisture and other contaminants. The sensor is connected to the body at the other end of the snout. The filter is at the tip of the snout. If you accidentally hit some condensation or oil, the filter swells, shutting off the pull to the sensor and protecting it from failure.
- Manual or automatic zeroing. It auto zeros every two seconds until a leak triggers the sensor. After that you can manually zero the detector to help further pinpoint leaks.
- Up and running in 30 seconds. Some heated elements and corona discharge units take much more time to warm up. UV dyes can take several hours to travel through a running system and can degrade system components.

User questions & answers
Question: | Is the price in australian dollar or american dollar |
Answer: | If your on the dot com site then it's dollars |
Question: | Does it come with charger and battery |
Answer: | The eight-hour (rechargeable) battery life lets you work all day before recharging and the included vehicle and wall chargers help you during overtime. |
Question: | Does it come with the rechargeable battery? The product details say no battery included |
Answer: | It does come with rechargeable battery and last a long time between charges |
Question: | What's the difference between the srl2 and srl |
Answer: | SRL2 uses infrared beam technology to detect refrigerants, it requires a little re-training on how you sweep when leak searching. However it works with ALL refrigerants, even used it for natural gas too. The SRL8 uses a heated diode technology which is generally very good for CFC refrigerants, however ANY heated diode tech struggles with HFC (eg.R-134a) as they lack the chlorine molecules (eg. R-22)I work in heavy commercial/industrial HVAC and we use the following, Infrared (srl2k7), Electronic (Mars H-10g) and finally we confirm leaks with soap bubbles and take picture/video to prove to customers. Seems a bit extreme but when you tell a customer they need 1,000lbs of R-22 in their built up system, they want to see the leaks!I've had good success with the SRL2k7, the H-10g is THE gold standard for Leak detection but costs $450-$600.Hope this helps. |

User questions & answers
Question: | Does this reallly detect r |
Answer: | No good |
Question: | can it detect gas leaks from my home kitchen |
Answer: | It would probably work on a fridge or freezer in a kitchen. It might detect a propane leak (R290), but probably not natural gas leaks. |
Question: | Does this unit detect r |
Answer: | Yes. It does. |
Question: | Does this work with r407c |
Answer: | That is a hit or miss. I use it at work on many 407c systems and can usually pick up 407, but there is a lot of science behind why you may not be able to pick up a 407c leak. For example 407c along with all 400 series refrigerants are actually a blend of other chemicals. Each of those chemicals boil off at different temperatures. If your system has been leaking bad enough for long enough some of the chemicals the make 407c could now be gone and the ones left behind may not be detected by this detector. Best of luck to you. |

- Reset: The leakage detector, upon initial switch-on, can automatically adjust itself to ignore the present level of Halogen gas in 6s and enter into the best state of detection. Place the sensing tip near a known leakage area and switch on, it's easy to find a higher concentration of leakage. Or move to the fresh air and turn on, adjust to the maximum sensitivity, any concentration above zero will be detected.
Leakage Warning
- When the gas leakage are discovered, "di di" sound will become more hurried. More refrigerant freon leak, more rapid. Meanwhile the indicator light flash quickly.
- The detector will beep regularly at a slow frequency when turn it on. If leak detected, it will beep in a higher frequency. (2 beeps per second when the detector is open, 10 beeps per second when detect the leak)
Notes:
Simple Operation Instruction
- Install 4 x AAA battery
- Turn the knob clockwise to turn on the leak detector, after 6 seconds, it turns into stand-by mode and begins to beep regularly. Then you can start detecting the leak.

User questions & answers
Question: | Has anyone used this for R410a systems? Mainly residential hvac units with slow leaks |
Answer: | I have owned my hvac company for twenty years plus now and have nine of these units. They work great on all Freons. Make sure you don’t get moisture in the tip. If you do Johnstone will ship it to the manufacturer for repairs. Usually less then $100. Great devise. |
Question: | Is this configured to find a leak before it happens |
Answer: | This is a "sniffer" type leak detector. Only finds active leaks. Very precise though. |
Product description
The Robinair LD7 Premium Refrigerant Leak Detector features a new color graphic display that highlights leak sizes in two unique ways. Bar graph mode shows the amount of refrigerant detected in the air and changes colors as the sensor gets closer to the leak. Sweep mode allows the user to see the level of refrigerant detected in the air through a line graph that helps the user trace back and forth to pinpoint the exact source of the leak. The LD7 also uses an audible alarm to alert technicians of a refrigerant leak, UV LED lights to locate leaks using UV dye and an inspection light for searching in dark locations. The LD7 is compatible with most commonly used refrigerants today, including R-134a and 1234yf, and is equipped with a stable, long life sensor that will last up to 10 years. The LD7 meets all of the current industry leak detector standards and is covered by a 2-year warranty. Uses 4 AA batteries, included.
- Patented 3 LED UV lights with 395-415 nm wave length is optimum for a/c dye fluorescence

User questions & answers
Question: | Is this a corona discharge or a heated diode sensor |
Answer: | It's neither of those types. The sensor on the LD7 is a mildly heated solid electrolyte semiconductor sensor. The sensor detects reducing gases exemplified by hydrogen compounds and halogenated hydrocarbons. It has excellent sensitivity to all HFO, HFC, HCFC, and CFC refrigerants including blends and the new R-1234yf refrigerant. Because it doesn't draw huge power it's able to operate on four AA disposable batteries. |
Question: | Does it work on R22 snd R410a |
Answer: | Yes. The LD7 features a long life solid electrolyte semiconductor sensor technology that is designed to detect all CFC, HCFC, HFC, and HFO refrigerants including R-1234YF (HFO), R-134A (HFC), R-410A (HFC), R-22 (HCFC), R-407C (HFC), R-507 (HFC), R-12 (CFC), R-404C (HFC). The LD7 is designed to detect all SNAP approved refrigerant blends |
Question: | does this comes with a case |
Answer: | Yes, it comes with a case, |
Question: | is this the same technology as the Prowler from JB |
Answer: | The sensor technology is similar, but the features and functions of this product are different than what’s available on the JB Prowler product. |
