10 best rv toilet chemical

RV toilet chemicals are specially designed products used to maintain the sanitation and functionality of toilets in recreational vehicles (RVs) and travel trailers. These chemicals serve several essential purposes related to waste disposal and odor control in RV plumbing systems. Here's what you should know about RV toilet chemicals:

  1. Waste Breakdown: RV toilet chemicals contain enzymes and chemicals that aid in breaking down solid waste and toilet paper. These chemicals facilitate the decomposition of organic matter, making it easier to manage and prevent clogs in the RV's black water tank and plumbing system.

  2. Odor Control: One of the primary functions of RV toilet chemicals is to control odors associated with human waste. These products typically have deodorizing agents that neutralize unpleasant smells, keeping the RV's bathroom area more comfortable.

  3. Lubrication: Some RV toilet chemicals contain lubricants that help maintain the smooth operation of the RV's waste valve and plumbing components. Proper lubrication can prevent valve sticking and ensure that waste can be easily emptied from the holding tank.

  4. Types of RV Toilet Chemicals:

    • Formaldehyde-Based: These chemicals were commonly used in the past but have fallen out of favor due to environmental concerns.Formaldehyde-based chemicals are effective at waste breakdown and odor control but may not be suitable for all RV camping locations.

    • Formaldehyde-Free: Many modern RV toilet chemicals are formaldehyde-free and are considered more environmentally friendly. They use alternative chemicals and enzymes to break down waste and control odors.

    • Biodegradable: Some RVers prefer biodegradable toilet chemicals, which are designed to have minimal impact on the environment. These products break down waste naturally and are often more eco-friendly.

  5. Usage Instructions: RV toilet chemicals are typically added to the RV's black water tank via the toilet bowl. Follow the manufacturer's instructions regarding dosage and frequency of use. It's essential to use the appropriate amount to avoid overuse or underuse.

  6. Pre-Packaged Options: RV toilet chemicals are available in various forms, including liquid concentrates, dissolvable pouches, and drop-in tablets. Pre-packaged options are convenient and eliminate the need for measuring.

  7. Tank Treatments: In addition to the chemicals used in the toilet bowl, many RVers use tank treatments in the black water tank itself. These treatments often contain bacteria and enzymes that help break down waste and reduce odors inside the holding tank.

  8. Safety: RV toilet chemicals should be handled with care, following safety guidelines provided by the manufacturer. Store them out of reach of children and pets, and avoid contact with skin and eyes.

RV toilet chemicals are an essential part of maintaining a clean and odor-free RV bathroom. Choosing the right product, following proper usage instructions, and regularly emptying and cleaning the black water tank are key steps to ensuring a pleasant and hassle-free RV camping experience.

User questions & answers

Question: Which of the alternate formulas has the lightest deodorizing smell
Answer: I personally like the orange
Question: How often can this be used
Answer: as often as you like, however, on bottle is suggested to treat up to 40 gallons of waste so using it more often would just make it run out faster and be more costly... I use two bottles per 40 gallons and wait until the tank is 3/4 full or more before dumping... this method has worked for me pretty well... make sure you use plenty of water always as that is key to maintaining the tank....
Question: Can this be added to the fresh water tank for the cassette toilet part that flushes? I have a pop up trailer. Thanks
Answer: Thetford says that the chemicals can damage the blade valve. Don't add it to the fresh/flush water. So just add it to the sewage holding tank. FYI the "fresh water" of a cassette toilet has no contact with the fresh water tank that one cooks, showers, and drinks from. It is just a holding tank for the water used to flush the potty.
Question: is this the liquid type
Answer: Yes, this is a liquid. Just pour it in your tank. This size bottle will treat up to a 40 gallon tank.

User questions & answers

Question: Can this be used, then disposed of in a residential septic tank? Porta-pak, that is
Answer: I can't be sure, but I would suspect you would not want to. This chemical doesn't dissolve waste, but rather preserves it (reducing foul smells) until pumped out/transferred.
Question: Can these be used in a "Vacu Flush" system on a boat
Answer: yes
Question: Has anyone used it at mardi gras parade
Answer: HOW would you use a toilet deodorizer at Mardi Gras?
Question: Is it safe for septic tanks
Answer: I called Walex but did not wait for a call back. I emailed them right away too. This is their answer about Porta-Pak:Porta-Pak will not harm your septic system when being used by a single RV. It would take 100's of RV's dumping the product daily into the septic system before the septic culture would even notice the product is in it. The product gets so diluted in the holding tank there is nothing left of the product when dumped into a septic system. I do have a question/suggestion for you. If your RV was used I always recommend you filling the black holding tank as high as you can with fresh water and adding 1 Porta-Pak in the tank for 24 hours and let it clean the tank thoroughly before you use. This will give you the reassurance that the tank is free of any old ill effects and leave you free to enjoy your camping. This is also a good practice to do before winterizing, so that you prevent any foul odors sneaking up on you when you get ready to start camping again. Congrats on the new trailer. Enjoy your travels and be rest assured that you won't have to worry about the holding tank. If you have any other questions please don't hesitate to call or write.Kindest regards, Todd ViceRV and Marine Sales ManagerWalex Products Company, Inc.PO Box 3785Wilmington, NC 28406(O)910-371-2242(F)910-371-2094

    User questions & answers

Question: We have 55 gallon holding tank with a grinder pump in it. This grinder pump will push the sewage up the hill to the sewer system. Will this work
Answer: It all depends on when and how you grinder cycles. If it only cycles when it is say 3/4 full, and you put in the packet when it is almost empty, it will work just fine. If you drop it in just before it cycles, you will not get much benefit from the product.
Question: What are the actual chemical ingredients
Answer: Sodium Chloride, Sodium Percarbonate, citrus additive, color
Question: does it work on a clogged "material waste" in a regular toilet
Answer: This product is designed for human waste and special designed toilet tissue in rv & portable toilets to work in holding tanks.
Question: Now if I have just a portable 5 gallon tank, is this just overkill? Should I cut the packets in half when using it
Answer: I just break open the baggies and use a small scoop to put into my camp toilet, using the whole bag would be pricey and wasteful.

Question: Am i suppose to drop one in when it is full and right before I dump the waste or drop one in as the waste is building or when it's empty
Answer: Not sure but I bet you can use one bottle per tank
Question: what is the scent? Is it over poewering or lightly scented
Answer: In recirculating toilet I use the entire bottle, but there are some that say 4oz to 5 gal I. Recirculating. When using traditional with black tank, I also use full 8oz. Hope this is helpful.
Question: Could this be used in a 5 gal bucket during camping
Answer: all Aqua-Kem I have used contains formaldehyde.
Question: I'm looking at the 1 gallon size. The item weight is 2 lbs? That is not possible or is it a powder that you must mix
Answer: Dear customer, generally speaking, it's universal. As the page shown, the item size is 14"x 14". And please note that this lid will fit depends on the hinge style of your current vent. Please check the second image on the listing page. As a responsible seller, FUDISI always insists customer first and offers one year warranty. We will resend you a brand new one or issue you the full refund if there is any product quality problem or it doesn't fit your RV. Hoping your order.
Question: Is this the blue or the green liquid
Answer: They do not attach with nuts and bolts. They use tabs to keep centered same as existing. You remove the Crank rod on inside of The RV then bend tabs or one tab on the end of the channel on the one you are replacing. Slide off opposite of tab opened and install new one. I bent one of the tabs prior to installing the new one and installed in the channel and bent the second tab to keep in place. It took about 15 min each one I replaced. They are as good as OEM or better
Question: How many Fluid oz do you use in each tank per dose? Black and Grey
Answer: Yes. You can replace the vent cover only. But you might want to inspect the plastic surrounding the inside. If it is brittle and cracked, it is best to replace while you are in there.
Question: Does this contain formaldehyde and is it safe for port-a-potties
Answer: My husband installed one on our 6 x 12 enclosed trailer. He didn't seem to have any issues. Since we only needed one, we have a spare.

    User questions & answers

Question: Can I use this in my home septic tank prior to having it emptied
Answer: This is heavier (denser) than water. Gasoline is lighter, 6.3 lbs per gallon.
Question: I have a covered doggy poop container. I'm looking for something that I can spray in, to eliminate the smell, between disposals. Will this work
Answer: Blue and it's the best of the best. I live in Corpus Christy Texas and the heat index has been from 105 to 115 for the past month. With no odor at all with the tank reading full. I've tried everything. But no one can beat this product by far. No BS
Question: I have a covered doggy poop container. I'm looking for something that I can spray in, to eliminate the smell, between disposals. Will this work
Answer: I use 4 oz in a Thetford Curve Potti for an approximate 5 gallon holding tank, used daily and we empty once per week without odor problems. In service for more than a year straight in a remote building without water or electric service where we work, the "Curve" has been a godsend and we have found through experimentation that the Aqua-Kem is the best type of this product to use for both odor control and breakdown of paper and solids. I'm sure a lesser amount could be used for grey water but would not recommend disposal anywhere other than in cesspools, septics, or sewers, not on open ground.
    Question: Will it freeze
Answer: Yes, it contains formaldehyde (which is not -- repeat, NOT -- a bad thing). You may find opinions and articles asserting that formaldehyde is a no-no, or that it doesn't work, or that it is bad for the environment...those assertions are all false. Please check out this link regarding use of formaldehyde in holding tanks -- http://www.thetford.com/Portals/0/pdf/Formaldehyde.pdf -- I realize that this information is put out by Thetford, so you may feel it is both false and self-serving, but I can assure you that my experience with both RVs and port-a-potties shows me that formaldehyde is not only NOT bad, it is by far the best chemical solution to treat concentrated waste-water.And YES, it is safe for use in port-a-potties, we've been using it for three years at our off-grid property, but you need to understand that the waste from small, self-contained portable toilets is the most concentrated of all liquid waste products. There are huge differences in the concentration of human waste in the three main types of "black-water": home toilets, RV toilets, and port-a-potty type self-contained toilets. Home toilets use a lot more water to flush -- they used to use upwards of 3 gallons of water for each flush. Modern toilets have reduced that to about a gallon, but that still leaves the ratio of liquid to solid-waste at about 8-to-1 or better. RV toilets are engineered to conserve water, so the ratio is maybe 4-to-1 or 3-to-1. Because the holding tanks on port-a-potties only hold a few gallons, each flush releases only a cup or so of water...even if you flush two or three times, the concentration is even higher, the ratio of liquid to solids may be as high as 1-to-1. Thus, for a port-a-potty you need to use a lot more Aqua-Kem per gallon of waste than you do in your RV's holding tank. The suggested amount of Aqua-Kem for a 40-gallon RV holding tank is 8 oz, or 1 oz for each 5 gallons of waste. For a 5-gallon holding tank on a port-a-potty, the recommended amount is 4 oz, or four times as much per gallon. But it sure does work. Each time we dump a 5-gal portable toilet holding tank into our septic system, we dump an additional 20 gallons of clean water, to reduce the concentration of solid waste. Also, we never put toilet pater into the toilets -- we keep small covered trash baskets next to the toilets for all paper waste. I know many toilet-paper companies claim their products are biodegradable, but it takes quite a while for most paper to break down. Even the Thetford special TP takes time. There is no reason to burden the system any more than we have to.
