User questions & answers
Question: | synthetic or conventional |
Answer: | This is a full synthetic in its current form. Previous incarnations were a blend. |
Question: | What is the shell life of motor oil |
Answer: | If kept in a cool (68-71 degrees, dry environment and away from sunlight I wouldn't worry about it, unless I intended to keep it 3 years plus. |
Question: | Is this full synthetic or synthetic blend? It's listed under both categories in your homepage |
Answer: | THIS PRODUCT IN 5W-20 IS A SYNTHETIC BLEND. CALLED CASTROL 12/12/19. THEY NO LONGER MAKE CONVENTIONAL FORMULA FOR THIS WEIGHT. ANY QUESTIONS, CALL 888-227-8765. |
Question: | how long time that oil last for chevrolet cobalt lt 2009 has 130.000 miles |
Answer: | I have a 2009 Cobalt. I change my oil when the indicator comes up on the dash. Usually within the time frame of 5 -1 % of life left. My Cobalt has almost 200,000 miles on it. The computer actually knows when the oil needs changed. How? The computer calculates the length of time the car runs, temperatures the car is exposed and more. In effect, the computer knows when the oil is losing it's level of viscosity. Viscosity = Sticky. Oil needs to be sticky to cling to the internal parts of the engine. Again, oil must be sticky to be protect the engine. Trust me, the car's computer knows. The only way the car doesn't know is if you don't start it and or you don't drive it. In that case, you would need to change the oil far more often. The worst effect any engine deals with is not being run. Second worst is starting the car and not allowing the engine to reach normal operating temperatures. Start the car and drive it. Doing so causes the moisture in the oil to be burned off. Moisture in the crankcase causes internal rust. Internal rust can damage the crank bearings. I have 4 GM cars. They all have high mileage. Let the car tell you when to change the oil. Btw, I use this oil in all my cars. It's among the best. |

User questions & answers
Question: | why bosh filters |
Answer: | Castrol does not recommend a particular oil filter brand. Our recommendation would be to use a filter from a leading manufacturer consistent with the recommendation of the engine manufacturer for your vehicle. Change the filter with each oil change following the oil change interval recommendation of the engine manufacturer consistent with the type of driving you do (e.g. severe vs. normal). |
Question: | Doe's anyone know why this oil is so expensive |
Answer: | It's good oil. It lasts longer and works better. In my area it is cheaper to buy on Amazon than from the local store. So there's that too. |
Question: | Generally i use highmileage 5w-30 for my nissan sentra 2007 which has 200k miles, shall i use highmileage 10w-40 now |
Answer: | Look what Nissan says on weight to use and stick with it. It is designed to use the weight as for the clearances on you motor. Once you used the high mileage continue to use it. The high mileage has stuff in the oil to expand some of the seal and gaskets in your motor. Now if you go back the seals may shrink back and start to leak. Go to youtube and look for the video on different filters and oils. ie fram. I had a someone tell me to get the fram off my 92 ford 5.0 mustang and watching the video on filter I could see why. Oil is important but especially the filter. |

Product description
Castrol EDGE is Castrol’s most advanced engine oil. It is a premium full synthetic oil that is designed for consumers who demand the best performance from their cars. Castrol EDGE is recommended by leading car manufacturers. Castrol EDGE is engineered with fluid titanium technology that physically changes the way the oil behaves under pressure. As a result of increased demand for performance and fuel economy, pressures in today’s engines have almost doubled over the last three decades. Greater pressure means more stress for the oil and the potential for more friction. As metal to metal contact increases, it causes wear and reduces performance. Underneath the hood, the pressure can reach 10 tons per square centimeter. That’s like five cars resting on a high heel relying only on a micro thin layer of oil for protection. So you need a strong oil to reduce friction, and to help increase horsepower and fuel economy. To combat the increased pressures faced in today’s engines, Castrol EDGE is engineered with fluid titanium technology that physically changes the way the oil behaves under pressure. Castrol’s patented titanium technology provides documented performance in friction reduction, anti-wear and deposit control protection. The titanium-based technology ensures performance and strength.
- 42 percent better rating on fighting power robbing deposits
- Superior engine protection vs conventional and synthetic blend oils
- Superior performance against deposits, wear and oxidation; Bottle Color: Black
- Meets the needs of Honda, Toyota, Acura, Lexus and other vehicles where 0W-20 grade is recommended
- Exceeds ILSAC GF-5, API SN, ACEA A1, ACEA B1

Answer: | I have been using full synthetic oil in my 98 Silverado 5.7. I now have 364k miles with no engine issues at all. I'd recommend it for anything that takes 5w30 |
Question: | Is this truly fully Synthetic or is it a synthetic blend? If it's fully synthetic - whats the advantage of Castrol EDGE Extended Performance 0W |
Answer: | SAE refers to the grading system. There are actually thicker Euro 5w-30 oils, but this is a thin 5w-30 for American and Asian cars. This particular blend is the latest additive formulation for GDI / turbo engines, it should be one of the best products on the market. |
Question: | is amazon motor oil apao |
Answer: | "Approved - GMdexos1™ supersedes GM-LL-A-025, GM6094M and GM4718M" This is indicated on the 5W-30 Castrol Edge High Mileage data sheet, dated 09Nov15. On their latest data sheet dated 20Sep17, this approved statement is no longer indicated. 1 quart size or 5 quart size makes no difference. If the product was made after 20Sep17 then it is not likely to be approved for engines requiring dexos1. I would safely assume the bottle labeling will reflect whether or not using this as a suitable substitute over dexos1 type oil is acceptable. The picture is old and will, or should, be changed so their is no confusion. |

Question: | Does D3410 fit Jeep |
Answer: | Yes according to Pennzoil web site it is. We use it in our GM vehicles.. |
Question: | Does it fit an Honda Accord |
Answer: | Completely OK to do this. If your car calls for 5W-20 and you add a quart of 5W-30, it will still work just fine. Much better than getting rid of it. We have a Ford Explorer that takes six quarts of 5W-20. I just add a quart from my unused 5W-30 from the other two cars and it has never been an issue, ever. It also saves me 9 bucks if I have to buy one quart. |
Question: | Is it Made in USA |
Answer: | You NEVER put motor oil in your gas tank! It goes in your engine/motor. |
Question: | is this a long life filter, 10 k |
Answer: | If you can afford a Ferrari F12, then you are not changing your own oil. Have the Ferrari mechanic tell you what kind of oil he'll put in the car. |

User questions & answers
Question: | Does this work with Synthetic Oil |
Answer: | I don't know you can Google it that's how I find out what fits |
Question: | what country is it made in |
Answer: | Do not get this for the Honda get the bosch 3323 oil filter for your honda |
Question: | Are o rings included |
Answer: | Mine is. However, the box states, "See product for country of origin," suggesting it can be manufactured elsewhere. |
Question: | does it come with the o rings |
Answer: | I wanted to read what others thought of my situation, since y'all have real experience and real data. My engine takes 9 quarts of synthetic 5W 30. I don't drive 1000 miles in a year. Even 2 years. It ran great, until a rat ate my valve timing adjustment actuator cables. They're discontinued but I'll keep trying to fix it. My oil never looked dirty in it's life. I have about 90,000 miles. I change it once a year, just for papering it. I accidentally went 2 years last year because I failed the inspection. I told them to go ahead and do the oil change but ... communication breakdown. But the oil still looked fine. It did have a slight orange tint, but it was clear as can be. My guess is that something rusted a little. Any guesses? Maybe I could pull the valve covers and spray some CRC Lithium spray lube to protect the cams, if those are the most exposed parts. Since my engine requires so much oil, they charged me $170 for an oil change and that's with the cheap filters and Valvoline oil. Most people don't care. I'm doing my own from now on, like I always used to. The hardest thing about an oil change is getting under the car. There's no road clearance. I have to jack it up, put wood under it until I get a stand under it, jack up the other side, and repeat until high enough to remove the engine pan and THAT'S really is a pain. Afterwards, I have to find a place to dispose of the oil and filter. ANYWAY, since I'm putting 9 quarts in, and I seldom drive even 500 miles in a year, does anyone think that a 2 year interval is plenty? (Especially since I'll put the saved money into better quality oil, much better quality filters in the engine oil, air and cabin)? |
