12 best auto sound deadeners
Auto sound deadeners, also known as automotive sound insulation or automotive noise reduction materials, are products used to reduce noise and vibrations in vehicles. They are installed in various areas of a vehicle to enhance acoustic comfort, reduce road noise, and improve overall sound quality. Here are key details about auto sound deadeners:
Purpose: Auto sound deadeners are primarily used to dampen and block unwanted noise and vibrations from entering the vehicle cabin. This enhances the interior's comfort, making the driving experience quieter and more enjoyable.
Types:
- Acoustic Insulation: This type of sound deadener is designed to reduce airborne noise, such as road and wind noise. It is often installed in the vehicle's doors, roof, floor, and trunk to absorb sound waves.
- Vibration Damping: These materials are applied to metal panels, such as the vehicle's firewall, floor, and wheel wells, to reduce vibrations caused by the engine, road, or other sources.
- Sound Barriers: Sound barrier materials are typically thicker and heavier and are used to block external noise. They are often installed under the vehicle's carpet or inside doors.
Materials:
- Butyl Rubber: Butyl-based sound deadeners are flexible and adhesive materials that effectively dampen vibrations and reduce noise. They are often used for vibration damping.
- Foam: Foam-based materials provide acoustic insulation by absorbing sound waves. Closed-cell foam is commonly used in automotive applications due to its resistance to moisture.
- Mass Loaded Vinyl (MLV): MLV is a dense, flexible material that serves as a sound barrier. It is effective at blocking airborne noise and is commonly used under carpets and inside door panels.
Installation:
- Auto sound deadeners are typically installed during vehicle assembly or added as aftermarket products.
- Installation locations can include the vehicle's doors, roof, firewall, trunk, floor, and wheel wells.
- Proper installation techniques, such as ensuring a clean and dry surface, are essential for the effectiveness of sound deadeners.
Benefits:
- Reduced Noise: The primary benefit is a quieter and more comfortable driving experience, as these materials reduce external noise and vibrations.
- Enhanced Sound Quality: Sound deadeners can also improve the quality of the vehicle's audio system by reducing unwanted vibrations and improving acoustics.
- Temperature Control: Some sound deadeners also provide thermal insulation, helping to maintain a more stable interior temperature.
Aftermarket Products: Many automotive enthusiasts and DIYers choose to install aftermarket sound deadeners to improve their vehicle's comfort and audio quality. These products come in various forms, including mats, sprays, and rolls, making them accessible for different installation preferences.
Considerations: When selecting sound deadeners, factors such as material type, thickness, and installation location should be considered to address specific noise and vibration issues in a vehicle.
In summary, auto sound deadeners are materials and products designed to reduce noise and vibrations in vehicles, providing a quieter and more comfortable driving experience. They come in various types and are used to address specific acoustic challenges, from blocking external noise to damping vibrations within the vehicle's structure. Proper installation and material selection are essential for achieving the desired acoustic comfort in a vehicle.

Answer: | Mine (the 101 model) did *NOT* come with any screws. Fortunately I have a box of loose screws at work... |
Question: | Can i use this on a wooden door at home? How many do i need |
Answer: | I am not using Cooler Master, but corsair H110 (also 280mm cooler). It fits on the top, except one problem: Water pipe clearance is small and I decided to move DVD drive to external one. User questions & answers
Question: | Will installing this in the trunk and under the rear seats help with exhaust drone and road noise |
Answer: | I haven't used it on wood. If it is clean I wouldn't hesitate to do that. The adhesive backing is very strong stuff. |
Question: | Is this stuff really 3" thick |
Answer: | Black |
Question: | We are doing a kitchen remodel and I want to use this in the dishwasher box area and around the dishwasher to quiet it down even more. I have concern with the odor from out gassing and how much heat it can handle |
Answer: | no, it may catch fire. Maybe you could add it on the inside above the muffler area. It would definitely help reduce the outside noise inside the vehicle. |
Question: | may I use this on my window to isolate noise outside |
Answer: | The material does add weight, buts its sound dampening appears quite good. A golf cart has less weight issues, it seems to me, than an automobile. It appears that you have a motorized golf cart with a 4 stroke engine (I am familair with the quiet electric carts) so I don't know if your results will be worthwhile. |

Question: | I saw an icon with sema name on the picture listed, what is this all about |
Answer: | Amazon offers a line of adapters: https://www.amazon.com/OPHIR-Airbrush-Adapter-Connector-Compressor/dp/B01I2TF6A4/ref=sr_1_2?ie=UTF8&qid=1545781996&sr=8-2&keywords=badger+airbrush+adapter+fittings |
Question: | Does your deadener smell after installation? My shop ordered some different brand from this site and it smells even months later |
Answer: | If the gauge is toward you, the left-hand side should be the input and right the output. If you look just above where the gauge screws in, there should be a raised arrow indicating airflow direction. |
Question: | Hello, What is the temperature / heat range of Siless 80 mil |
Answer: | Honestly, it depends on your compressor. Small hobby compressors typically do not need a water trap at all because you're moving so little air. I use a large tank compressor with a 50 foot hose between it and my water trap and have never had it catch a drop because all the condensation is inside the tank, where the air cools. If you are using a large tank compressor you can use the trap close to the tank with no problems, but if it's a large tankless compressor, you'll need some distance to let the air cool. |
Question: | I know this is 18 sqft but is it 2'by9' or what is the width and lenght |
Answer: | Not that I am aware of. However, I use this on an air tank and not a full compressor. I do airbrush tats, so its pretty much use it for a few hours (5-8) during events and I probably wont use it again for a couple weeks or months in the off seasons. I haven't noticed it leaking out air, and my 11gal tank as thus far lasted all day when I regulate the PSI down to about 15-20 psi for my airbrush. My tank will leak out air on its own after a while (usually its empty after 48 hours) but the regulator is not connected when I store my tank. |

User questions & answers
Question: | Is this flexible? I want to install it on the floor of a cargo van. The floor has ridges about every inch and a half. Would it go in the groves |
Answer: | This sound deadening material is made on a butyl rubber base and does not contain any asphalt or petroleum. It does not have an asphalt smell. All of our products are non-hazardous ones and not dangerous. |
Question: | can this mat be used for under the hood and is it safe |
Answer: | Yes, this material will stick to plastic. There should be no problem. The surface is to be pre-cleaned and degreased prior to installation. Each sheet of the material is to be thoroughly pressed to the surface with a roller. However, please note that our products are mainly designated to be installed from the interior side of a vehicle in order to perform its function and get substantial results. It is worth mentioning that UTV is a fairly difficult objective in terms of soundproofing. We doubt that application of any kind of sound deadening materials would bring about somewhat sensible results in comparison if it was installed to a regular car. The reason being is an open design of your UTV along with its engine arrangement. Another thing is that the material should not be installed to those areas of your UTV that are exposed to the elements (dirt or water). |
