7 best fan controller for car
A fan controller for a car is an electronic device used to manage the operation of the engine's cooling fan. This component is crucial for regulating the temperature of the engine and preventing it from overheating. Here are some key points related to fan controllers in the context of Performance Parts Accessories and Automotive:
Purpose: The primary purpose of a fan controller is to regulate the operation of the cooling fan(s) in a vehicle. It ensures that the fan operates at the correct speed and duration to maintain the engine at an optimal temperature.
Temperature Sensing: Fan controllers are equipped with temperature sensors that monitor the engine's temperature. When the temperature exceeds a predetermined threshold, the controller activates the fan(s) to help cool down the engine.
Variable Speed Control: Some advanced fan controllers allow for variable speed control. This means they can adjust the fan's speed based on the engine's temperature. This can help optimize cooling efficiency and reduce unnecessary power consumption.
Electric Fans: Fan controllers are commonly used with electric cooling fans. These fans are driven by electric motors and are more energy-efficient compared to traditional engine-driven fans.
Manual Override: Many fan controllers come with a manual override feature. This allows the driver to manually control the fan operation, which can be useful in situations where additional cooling is needed, such as during heavy traffic or while towing.
Wiring and Installation: Installing a fan controller typically involves connecting it to the vehicle's electrical system and integrating it with the cooling fan(s). It's important to follow the manufacturer's instructions and ensure proper wiring for safe and effective operation.
Compatibility: Fan controllers are designed to work with specific types of cooling fans and engines. It's essential to choose a controller that is compatible with your vehicle's make, model, and cooling system specifications.
Benefits: A properly functioning fan controller helps prevent engine overheating, which can lead to costly damage. It also contributes to improved engine performance and fuel efficiency by maintaining an optimal operating temperature.
Aftermarket Options: There is a wide range of aftermarket fan controllers available, offering various features and capabilities. Some are simple, basic units, while others may be more advanced with digital displays and programmable settings.
Maintenance: Fan controllers generally require minimal maintenance. However, it's important to periodically inspect the wiring and connections to ensure they are secure and free from damage.
When considering a fan controller for your car, it's advisable to consult with a knowledgeable automotive specialist or refer to the manufacturer's recommendations to ensure you choose a controller that is compatible with your specific vehicle and cooling system setup.

User questions & answers
Question: | How can you tell what temperature you set the controller to |
Answer: | Step 1: For Electric Radiators, Disconnect Electrical Wiring.Confirm your radiator is electric or driven by a belt. If it’s electric Unclip wires on the back of the radiator before continuing. Step 2: Remove Radiator Fan Shroud .Using a wrench and/or ratchet and socket set, remove the bolts connecting the shroud to the radiator. Then lift the shroud straight up and off of the radiator to expose the fan. Please keep bolts to reinstall the new radiator fan. Step 3: Remove the Old Fan.use your wrench and/or ratchet and socket set to remove the bolts or disassemble the fan clutch and fan assembly. Step 4: Replace Radiator Fan.insert new fan into the space where the old radiator fan was previously installed. Use the bolts that you unscrewed in the previous step to secure the new radiator fan in place.reattach the fan clutch and assembly if necessary. Step 5: Reattach Electric Wires and Test.reattach the electrical wiring, lower the hood of your car and test to make sure the new radiator fan is working properly. |
Question: | How does the AC override feature work? I am trying to stop my radiator fan from switching on when my aircon switches on m |
Answer: | Its universal. |
Question: | Does this fit RSX? and solve the issue about oil temp and water temp running too cold |
Answer: | It would depend on which size fan you need. I ordered the 10" fan and the blades were 10" tip to tip. The housing is asymmetrical so the outside dimension varies. It averages around 12" though. |
Question: | How does the probe mount |
Answer: | If the panel is undersized (or conditions prevent the full wattage) you can attach it directly. If I understand your question correctly you're referring to the fact a 12v solar panel can produce 17v+ (for example at noon) with a little bit of load. Here's the thing, the more load you add the more your panel sacrifices voltage. So, if you have a panel that's rated for 50-60w and try to power this 80w fan attached directly this fan will try to get more power than the panel can produce and panel will sacrifice voltage trying to power it and you won't get 17v... you likely won't even get 12v and the fan will run slower. However, if you have a big solar panel (or array) then you should use a voltage regulator/solar controller to make sure the fan doesn't get over 12v. In summary, if your solar is underpowered (or conditions prevent 80w) you can direct connect this to the solar panel as this fan will draw more than the panel can produce and your panel will sacrifice voltage and this fan won't see 17v. If you have panels that can produce as much as this fan needs or more, then no you can't connect it directly you need to go through a voltage regulator/solar controller because a big panel/array direct connected will send 17v+ to this fan. |

User questions & answers
Question: | Do they offer relays with ac switch |
Answer: | mine only worked once or twice up to you if you buy they're product |
Question: | Will this work with automatic transmission and air conditioning |
Answer: | Will work with any cooling system turns electric fan on. Nothing to do with transmission type |
Question: | How do I put this in the trade in list |
Answer: | what do you mean? |
Question: | Wondering if this will work for a tranny cooler as well |
Answer: | Use a dedicated Trans Cooler temp gauge and kithttps://www.amazon.com/80212-Transmission-Temperature-Gauge-Kit/dp/B0002A596I |
Question: | Where in the wiring harness do you plug in the temp. sensor |
Answer: | There's a plug for it. That comes off the main harness where it plugs into the relay. |
Question: | I have a 2000 mustang gt, which style do i need? i am guessing npt |
Answer: | It is up to you how do you want to use it, probe-style temperature sensor gets attached to the radiator and a 1/8-inch NPT thread-in sensor gets installed to a threaded hole in a fitting or an adapter, the probe it may be easier if you can push it in the radiator fins near water inlet, good lock with that, |
Question: | Does this sensor work with oils applications? Or just coolant |
Answer: | This kit is a universal item designed to work with coolant, but can work with other fluids if necessary. This kit has been adapted to other custom applications for fan-cooled setups like transmission coolers and power steering coolers with no issues. If you have any other questions, please send an email to [email protected] and we would be happy to assist further. Thanks, Mishimoto |
Question: | Does the kit come with Both the 1/8 inch Npt sensor and the Proble style sensor or just one |
Answer: | Nope, it just comes with the probe, with which I have no experience. I got the npt sensor, but because of the super fine threading it didnt fit in my chevrolet's temp sensor holes in the cyl heads. So I got the inline adapter mishimoto offers. Personally I've got more confidence in that design's accuracy. all that's needed is removal of a small, straight section of the coolant hose going from the radiator to the thermostat housing. Think you need like a 5" straight section that you remove an inch and a half from (thats a guess based on memory.) Anyways, good luck to you |
Question: | How should i wire the fans for use with this |
Answer: | You can wire it up as a single speed or a two speed that is set at different temperatures. |
Question: | Can I use this by screwing the sensor into my transmission pan(it has a port for a sensor) to turn the transmission electric cooling fan on/off |
Answer: | You could. But in my opinion. You need an actual twenty sensor. I say this as i won't away from derale. Hard to adjust. Later only 2 yrs before i hauled vail pass in Colorado and it went out at 10000 ft and i had to hit white first to get the fans to come on.. i went flexlight. More expensive but you get what you pay for. 4 yrs.. no issues so far. |

Why Do Original Radiator Fan Assemblies Fail?
Radiator cooling fans fail for a number of reasons, all stemming from the heat and stress they endure while trying to cool an engine. Bearings can melt from high temperatures, fan blades can break, sensors can fail, and mechanical pieces can stop working over time.
When radiator fans don't work correctly, the radiator can't serve its purpose to keep the engine cool. When an engine overheats, it can cause a number of problems, and make the vehicle inoperable altogether. That's why replacing a broken radiator fan should be an immediate priority.
Why Are Dorman Radiator Fan Assemblies Better?
Dorman's engine cooling fan assemblies are designed to be a direct replacement for the original equipment manufacturer's part. That means installation is easier, and the part fits as intended.
Our fan assemblies are also tested to OEM specifications, so you know the part you're putting on performs as good or better than the part you're taking off.
