User questions & answers
Question: | How does it do with concrete |
Answer: | I'm not sure why anyone would coat concrete with a rubber coating? It isn't a product that would stand up to foot traffic, and it doesn't go on very thick. I think it is more intended for spraying onto small items, such as a tool handle. |
Question: | Is it matte black or glossy |
Answer: | This is matte black. All plasti dip colors are matte finish by default unless you use an enhancer top coat like glossifier, or metalizer. |
Question: | i want to spray a purple matte helmet & a bright orange matte helmet. will this work? or items have to be glossy/plastic |
Answer: | any plastic item can be sprayed, this is for black, not purple or orange |
Question: | How does this do with salt... winters in new england get very salty. i want to dip my winter rims a glossy black. will they withstand the salt |
Answer: | This holds up to salty conditions well. To give a personal example I have used this over some external components on my salt water fishing boat. Those components are submerged every time the boat goes in the water and the Plasti Dip has worked without fail. |

User questions & answers
Question: | Should I use a primer when covering the orange sticky stuff under fabric car door/headliner panels? Is there a way (top coat?) to make it permanent |
Answer: | Using a primer in combination with the Plasti-Dip will make the product permanent and takes away the ability to peel it off. Thank you. |
Question: | Do i need a plastidip black base? or can i spray directly to the rims |
Answer: | You can paint directly top rims, a black under coat of plastidip should only help the blue but it is not necessary what so ever. |
Question: | can this be used on plastic |
Answer: | Yes this product can be used on plastic. Thank you |
Question: | Can you use this on a fiber glass boat |
Answer: | The Plasti Dip will adhere to the fiber glass so long as it has something to wrap around, however it will not be a permanent coating. We do recommend a test area to ensure desired results. Thank you |

Question: | Is this a permanent product, meaning can I coat bare metal to protect it outside for 20 years |
Answer: | 20 years, imnot too sure. I do know that I left a motorcycle outside in florida while I was in Afghanistan for a year and it was coated. when I came back the parts that were exposed were rusted and the chrome that was coated was brand new. if that helps. |
Question: | hi,Do I need something else,or only with those paint my car. how much would I need plastidip for Range Rover |
Answer: | No shipping outside of the US. |
Question: | can you dip the "Spray" version of this or should I purchase a different mixture |

Product description
Although technically not a paint, Plasti Dip is your go-to solution for easy coating of automotive emblems and quarter panels. This red rubber plastic dip can also be used for household repairs and crafts projects. It air dries quickly and becomes the new surface, protecting the original material from environmental exposure and rust. It has been used on vehicles and motorcycles of practically every make and model. Professionals and hobbyists have been touting its benefits since its inception in 1972. As Performix describes it, it’s the “original, peelable, flexible, insulating, non-slip, durable rubber coating.” When applying Plasti Dip, it’s good to choose a well-ventilated, shaded area with minimal air movement. During a period of high humidity, it’s best to wait for dryer weather. The product performs best when the air temperature is around 70 degrees Fahrenheit. In any case, one of the advantages of the Performix spray is that it’s easy to peel and re-do anything that you aren’t completely satisfied with. The process starts with masking off surrounding paint, trim, rubber or glass. Next you’ll need to clean and thoroughly dry the surface(s) where you’ll be applying Plasti Dip. Follow the can’s instructions, but also keep in mind these tips: Try to maintain the same distance while spraying, as moving closer and farther could result in a poor, uneven application. Shoot for 50-60 percent coverage on the first spray. Wait 10 minutes in-between each layer. Take note of areas where a freshly coated surface is immediately adjacent to a non-coated one, as you’ll need to un-mask that part while the final layer is still wet. Its finish is satin but can be made glossy by applying a Plasti Dip Enhancer product WARNING: This product can expose you to chemicals which is [are] known to the State of California to cause cancer and birth defects or other reproductive harm. User questions & answers
Question: | I have a computer charger that has a split in the rubber. Can I dip the cable to cover the spots of exposed wire? It is completely split in one area |
Answer: | Absolutely! But I wouldn't dip it. Start by cleaning the area thoroughly with rubbing alcohol. If more than one of the wires inside the cable is bare, wrap it with a small piece of electrical tape. If you use tape you will need to clean again after applying. Then using a small piece of flat wood (tongue depressor or Popsicle stick) to spread a thin layer of Plasti Dip. Allow to set up overnight, and repeat until the desired coating is achieved. Hope this helps. All the best, Fred |
Question: | If there is s very small area that is peeling can you use small paintbrush with it? Area is too small for spray. Thanks |
Answer: | You sure can. It's great with a paint brush.you can even think it out if need me. I use a paintbrush in fact to dip electronic boards. Especially ones that have connections that can't be dipped. Use the brush to coat the board to prevent it from getting into connection ports. If your using it to fix a part that is peeling, I pull off any lose pieces and then use sandpaper or something to rough the surface were the plasti dip ends. Helps it to stick and not peel off again. |
Question: | This stuff hardens after it is opened, even if stored like instructed. So then you have to thin it with lacquer to use it …how well does this work |
Answer: | Not sure if I understand your question, but the NEW design of the Can prevents it from hardening. The can type I got is like the kind you get from HomeDepot Paint 1 pint metal containers. And by using a Flat-head screwdriver or a paint can opener, I carefully wedge the lid off. An exception to this is if the inner rim is damaged and air leaks in.The Back of the Plasti-DIP can has instructions on how to "thin" (reduce viscosity "thickens", NOT reverse hardening of the contents) by adding a little bit of Naphta, Xylene (Xylol), Toluene (Toluol) solvents. These are considered very very dilute as solvents but great for "thinning" a non-hardened can ofPlasti-Dip.Mineral Spirits, and Paint Thinner is too effective at thinning. IT WILL STRIP off hardened plasti-DIP. I do not recommend using Lacquer Thinner, the solvent is EXTREMELY Harsh. These will melt hardened Plati-Dip and denature it. By Denaturing, I mean it's no longer usable or can be reapplied. This stuff works amazing! I had a Timbuk Messenger Nylon Zipper Grip fraying, so snipped off and trimmed off the frayed bits. I pop open the can and give it a good mixing (based on Instructions), then I individually dipped each Nylon Zipper Grip into the thick-honey-like Plasti-DIP. After it dries, each Nylon Zipper is rubberized and invulnerable to Fraying. My Conclusion is that if the contents in the can has completely HARDENED, I suggest tossing it out. The Chemicals within goes through an oxidative chemical reaction that "matures" the liquid to a solid. Reverting the hardened substance via a solvent (especially Lacquer) will damage and denature the contents even further. Also even if you do succeed, the performance of the Product pales in comparison to a new can of Plasti-Dip. The melted substance will most likely be unusable. The Back of the Plasti-DIP can has instructions on how to "thin" (reduce viscosity "thick honey like liquid", NOT reverse hardening of the contents) by adding a little bit of Naphta, Xylene (Xylol), Toluene (Toluol) solvents. |
Question: | How durable is the coating? I'm hoping to dip the handles on some of my "cheap" auto tools with this |
Answer: | I'm not sure how durable it will be. If you dip it multiple times ,waiting for it to dry between coats , you can make a thicker coating.I think this wiil work. I used it on my pliers an dipped 3 or 4 times and they are holding up very well. |

User questions & answers
Question: | Will this work on outdoor iron patio furniture? If so should i sand blast it down first to get peeling and old paint off |
Answer: | You want to get any peeling paint off for sure. This stuff pretty much works on anything. If you get the primer and the clear coat as well as whatever color you want, do 4 to 5 coats, this stuff will hold up against anything. I’ve had it on my car for over 3 years. I have only had to touch up a few spots one time. And that was from my foot hitting my running board when I get in and out. Clean the surface, primer it with plasti dip primer, do 4-5 coats of color in a warm area, the warmer, the better. Give 15 to 30 minutes between Coates. After it is all set up, put a few coats of the clear gloss on if you want gloss and you are good to go. Keep a can our two for minor touch up throughout the year. |
Question: | could this be used in a bird bath to stop a small crack from leaking |
Answer: | I would assume so, if you are coating the entire inside. If it’s just a spot fix inside, it may leak. Probably a better option then this though. |
Question: | Would this product be suitable for coating an anchor chain |
Answer: | With enough coats, it should be okay. I use at least 10 on anything that's exposed to the elements. |
Question: | Can this stick to chrome |
Answer: | The front grill work on my 2014 Ford Edge SE was a lovely chromed plastic. Matched with the clearcoated wheels and silver paint she looked rather cheery when I bought her used in 2019. To 'fix' that I applied plastidip to the chrome and the wheels. Over a year and a half later they still look good. |

Plasti Dip Blaze is a unique collection of neon Plasti Dip colors that deliver eye-catching looks for any application. Use Plasti Dip Blaze anywhere you need bright, easy to see colors—you can use it to improve visibility for safety concerns, to add can’t-miss color to frequently misplaced items, or for a one-of-a-kind look on almost any do-it-yourself project. Plasti Dip Blaze is available in six eye-catching colors: Blaze Blue, Blaze Orange, Blaze Pink, Blaze Yellow, Blaze Purple, and Blaze Green. The Blaze collection applies quickly and easily to nearly any substrate material, and creates a protective coating to shield against abrasion, corrosion, mild impact, and the elements. Plasti Dip Blaze also creates a soft, easy-grip surface that helps prevent skidding and slipping. For the brightest possible colors, it’s best to apply Plasti Dip Blaze over a white base, preferably white Plasti Dip, for optimum adhesion. Due to their unique composition, fluorescent pigments like the ones used in Plasti Dip Blaze tend to fade faster than other colors. Plasti Dip International has taken preventative measures, including the addition of a UV protector to the formula, to help the Blaze colors stay brighter longer, but some fading is inevitable. However, in most instances, quick touch ups as needed should be sufficient to keep Blaze colors bright. If the coating gets damaged or wears out, or if you decide to change the look of your Plasti Dipped items, cured Plasti Dip Blaze will peel off easily from most surfaces. It leaves the material underneath in its original, pre-Dipped condition. All colors of Plasti Dip Blaze are available in convenient 11-oz. aerosol cans. Just shake it up and spray it on to give any DIY project a vivid, attention-grabbing look.

User questions & answers
Question: | Will this work for a football helmet facemask |
Answer: | I have my doubts. This is a rather soft peel away film and I would think that you'd need something much more durable to take the impacts and abrasions. |
Question: | Is it suppose to have a spray nozzle? Mine didn't |
Answer: | If you are asking about this product having a standard spray nozzle... Yes, mine had one. |
Question: | I want to use it on a gaming controller will the paint resist to be touched every day without falling of |
Answer: | Honestly no... I don't think it will. I always avoid touching anything I plastidip because it can and will get scratched and then peel. |
Question: | I want to color-code handles of metal surgical instruments. Will this product stand up to steam autoclave sterilization |
Answer: | It would be better to use one of the color metallic plating processes. You’ll pay more but you’ll get a durable coating that doesn’t interfere with sterilizing the instruments. This product is a pvc and porous on the microscopic scale. Steam autoclave sterilization degrades pathogens using elevated temperature and pressure. The schedule you use for the time needed to achieve effective sterilization is for a smooth metallic surface that doesn’t shield pathogens in its pores. The low binding energy of electrons on a metal surface also tends to accelerate some of the breakdown reactions. You can probably find the required time for a soft PVC surface for your autoclave. The longer autoclave time will degrade the instruments more rapidly. |
