12 best synthetic blend oils

Synthetic blend oil, also known as semi-synthetic oil, is a type of motor oil that combines synthetic base oil with conventional mineral base oil. Here's what you need to know about synthetic blend oils:

  1. Composition: Synthetic blend oils are a mixture of synthetic and conventional base oils. Typically, they contain a higher percentage of conventional mineral oil (around 70-80%) and a lower percentage of synthetic oil (around 20-30%). The exact blend ratio may vary between different brands and formulations.

  2. Performance: Synthetic blend oils aim to strike a balance between the benefits of full synthetic oil and conventional oil. They offer improved performance and protection compared to conventional oil but may not match the performance advantages of full synthetic oils.

  3. Benefits:

    • Better High-Temperature Stability: Synthetic blend oils provide improved high-temperature stability compared to conventional oils, which can help reduce engine wear and deposits.
    • Cold-Weather Performance: They flow better at low temperatures, making them suitable for use in cold climates and providing quicker lubrication during cold starts.
    • Cost-Effective: Synthetic blend oils are often more affordable than full synthetic oils, making them a cost-effective choice for those who want some synthetic benefits without the higher price tag.
  4. Protection: Synthetic blend oils provide enhanced protection against engine wear, corrosion, and sludge buildup compared to conventional oils. This can help extend the life of your engine.

  5. Applications: Synthetic blend oils are suitable for a wide range of vehicles, including passenger cars, trucks, and SUVs. They are often recommended for vehicles with moderate to heavy-duty driving conditions, such as towing and stop-and-go city driving.

  6. Oil Change Intervals: The recommended oil change interval for synthetic blend oils varies depending on the manufacturer and specific oil formulation. It is essential to follow the manufacturer's recommendations in your vehicle's owner's manual.

  7. Compatibility: Synthetic blend oils are compatible with most engines, including those designed for conventional oil. They can often be used in vehicles that have previously used conventional oil without the need for special preparation.

  8. Labeling: When purchasing motor oil, look for products labeled as "synthetic blend" or "semi-synthetic." This will ensure that you are getting a mixture of synthetic and conventional oils.

  9. Maintenance: Regular oil changes with the recommended synthetic blend oil can help keep your engine running smoothly and extend its lifespan. Always check your vehicle's owner's manual for the manufacturer's recommended oil type and change intervals.

In summary, synthetic blend oils offer a compromise between the benefits of full synthetic oil and the cost-effectiveness of conventional oil. They provide improved performance and protection compared to conventional oil, making them a suitable choice for many vehicles and driving conditions.

User questions & answers

Question: synthetic or conventional
Answer: This is a full synthetic in its current form. Previous incarnations were a blend.
Question: What is the shell life of motor oil
Answer: If kept in a cool (68-71 degrees, dry environment and away from sunlight I wouldn't worry about it, unless I intended to keep it 3 years plus.
Question: Is this full synthetic or synthetic blend? It's listed under both categories in your homepage
Answer: THIS PRODUCT IN 5W-20 IS A SYNTHETIC BLEND. CALLED CASTROL 12/12/19. THEY NO LONGER MAKE CONVENTIONAL FORMULA FOR THIS WEIGHT. ANY QUESTIONS, CALL 888-227-8765.
Question: how long time that oil last for chevrolet cobalt lt 2009 has 130.000 miles
Answer: I have a 2009 Cobalt. I change my oil when the indicator comes up on the dash. Usually within the time frame of 5 -1 % of life left. My Cobalt has almost 200,000 miles on it. The computer actually knows when the oil needs changed. How? The computer calculates the length of time the car runs, temperatures the car is exposed and more. In effect, the computer knows when the oil is losing it's level of viscosity. Viscosity = Sticky. Oil needs to be sticky to cling to the internal parts of the engine. Again, oil must be sticky to be protect the engine. Trust me, the car's computer knows. The only way the car doesn't know is if you don't start it and or you don't drive it. In that case, you would need to change the oil far more often. The worst effect any engine deals with is not being run. Second worst is starting the car and not allowing the engine to reach normal operating temperatures. Start the car and drive it. Doing so causes the moisture in the oil to be burned off. Moisture in the crankcase causes internal rust. Internal rust can damage the crank bearings. I have 4 GM cars. They all have high mileage. Let the car tell you when to change the oil. Btw, I use this oil in all my cars. It's among the best.

Question: Why is the Amazon price twice that than that of Walmart
Answer: Agree! We got it on a special.
Question: why does the amazon website, say its the wrong oil for my 2011 mustang when this is the same exact oil that ford recomends in that car ? fix your site
Answer: THE AMAZON WEBSITE ALSO STATES THAT THE MOTORCRAFT SYN BLEND IS NOT THE RIGHT OIL FOR MY 2003 FORD CROWN VICTORIA POLICE INTERCEPTOR, ALTHOUGH, I HAVE BEEN USING THE OIL FOR YEARS, SINCE 2013, WITH EXCELLENT RESULTS. I GUESS YOU MIGHT CONTACT A FORD DEALERSHIP AND POSE THE QUESTION TO FORD.
Question: at walmart vs 31.51 on amazon prime
Answer: That is true! The last time I changed the oil on my fiesta ST I went to Walmart as the price here on Amazon is ridiculous! On top of paying for the prime membership you atleast expect the prices to be comparable to Walmart. But they are way overpriced on Amazon!

User questions & answers

Question: why bosh filters
Answer: Castrol does not recommend a particular oil filter brand. Our recommendation would be to use a filter from a leading manufacturer consistent with the recommendation of the engine manufacturer for your vehicle. Change the filter with each oil change following the oil change interval recommendation of the engine manufacturer consistent with the type of driving you do (e.g. severe vs. normal).
Question: Doe's anyone know why this oil is so expensive
Answer: It's good oil. It lasts longer and works better. In my area it is cheaper to buy on Amazon than from the local store. So there's that too.
Question: Generally i use highmileage 5w-30 for my nissan sentra 2007 which has 200k miles, shall i use highmileage 10w-40 now
Answer: Look what Nissan says on weight to use and stick with it. It is designed to use the weight as for the clearances on you motor. Once you used the high mileage continue to use it. The high mileage has stuff in the oil to expand some of the seal and gaskets in your motor. Now if you go back the seals may shrink back and start to leak. Go to youtube and look for the video on different filters and oils. ie fram. I had a someone tell me to get the fram off my 92 ford 5.0 mustang and watching the video on filter I could see why. Oil is important but especially the filter.
Question: quisiera saber si es 10w30 o 10w40, la descripcion es diferente a la imagen

User questions & answers

Question: Does this oil meet VW's 502.00 / 505.00 spec
Answer: It's likely not going to be on the VW certified list. But, 502/505.00 does mirror ACEA A3/B4 a lot. In the older manuals, pre-longitudinal 1.8T oil sludge, the manual did give you options, saying it needed to meet 502.00/505.00, ACEA A3/B4, or API CF-4 (older TDI's).
Question: Does anyone have a virgin oil analysis to post? thank you
Answer: I hear that if you take the oil to confession, it can be re-virginated. That's what my wife told me right before we got married.
Question: Amazon doesn't make anything. So who really makes this oil
Answer: Warren makes Kirkland oil as well. When I went today, Costco was selling a box containing 2 of the 5 gallon jugs of full synthetic for $24.99, which is about half of what Bezos is charging for the exact same product. The Costco jugs say, "Manufactured by Warren Distribution, Inc." and says "DEXOS approved Gen-2" as well.
Question: Do you just add it to the gas or pour in the glovebox
Answer: Before adding oil to your gas tank make sure to check the blinker fuild level. If it's at the full mark you can safely add all 5 quarts of oil into your gas tank. With full synthetic you'll get better gas mileage! If you want to really crank up your engines preformance, the next time your at the gas station, pop the hood, unscrew the engine oil cap, and fill your engine up with 93 OCT until it overflows. Put the cap back on and your good to go! I've gained around 100HP in my 1996 Ford Taurus.

Valvoline Advanced Full Synthetic SAE 0W-20 Motor Oil 1 QT

Valvoline

Based on 13 reviews Check latest price

Product description

Valvoline SynPower Full Synthetic Motor Oil delivers superior engine protection by fighting the three major causes of engine stress: heat, deposits and wear. That's because SynPower is the only leading full synthetic formulated with more durable anti-wear additives that stay in the oil longer. When you want to keep your engine running its best, choose the ultimate protection found in Valvoline SynPower Full Synthetic.

Motor oil is made from crude oil and is used to lubricate, clean, and cool engines. Types of motor oil include conventional, synthetic, diesel, bio-based, hybrid (blends of conventional and synthetic), and recycled oils. Motor oil varies in weight and viscosity, as well as additives that some manufacturers add to the oil during the refining process. A numerical code system created by the Society of Automotive Engineers (SAE) grades motor oils according to viscosity--the higher the number between 0 and 60, the more viscous (thicker) the oil is. Most consumer motor oils are graded by two numbers, with the first number indicating cold weather (Winter or "W") performance.

SAE 0W-20

This oil has a weight of SAE 0W-20, meaning it has an SAE viscosity rating of 0 in cold temperatures and a rating of 20 at normal operating temperature. Always check your vehicle's owner's manual to verify that this is the correct weight of motor oil for your vehicle.

Full Synthetic Oil

This oil is a full synthetic oil, meaning crude oil is not used in making it. Synthetic oil can be used in vehicle engines instead of motor oils refined from crude oil, and often provides superior mechanical performance over traditional motor oil, including increased gas mileage and reduced engine wear at extreme temperatures. Its complex method of production means it can often cost more than conventional motor oil.

From the Manufacturer

Valvoline SynPower Full Synthetic Motor Oil - Meets the Demands of Today's Tough Driving Conditions

SynPower Full Synthetic delivers superior engine protection by fighting the three major causes of engine stress: heat, deposits and wear. That's because SynPower is the only leading full synthetic formulated with more durable anti-wear additives that stay in the oil longer.

Premium chemistry and full synthetic base oils help SynPower deliver the ultimate protection against:

• Heat - SynPower is formulated with full synthetic base oil and premium chemistry that stands-up to extreme temperatures. SynPower flows when the engine is cool, and maintains its protection barrier as engine temperatures rise.

• Deposits - SynPower has extra detergents and dispersants to help prevent harmful build-up of sludge, varnish and other deposits in your engine.

• Wear - With all the concern about lower zinc in motor oil, SynPower responded with advanced, more durable anti-wear additives that stay in the oil longer for outstanding protection against friction and wear.

SynPower meets the performance requirements of most naturally aspirated, turbocharged and supercharged cars operating in North America.

Frequently Asked Questions About Valvoline's SynPower

How does SynPower compare to Mobil1 and Amsoil?

Valvoline's SynPower motor oils meet and exceed the same specifications as these two products. SynPower motor oils are high performing, high-quality oils formulated with full synthetic base oils and top tier additives to provide an increased level of performance. All of Valvoline's SynPower motor oils are API licensed to ensure quality for North American vehicle application. We have specially designed SynPower 5w40 for application in high performance European or diesel passenger cars and this oil carries the specific OEM approvals such as Mercedes Benz, Volkswagen, Porsche and BMW. Our North American SynPower 5w20, 5w30 and 10w30 exceed ILSAC GF-4 requirements and carry the API starburst on the front label. SynPower is designed with extra levels of detergent and antioxidant to provide outstanding deposit and heat protection.

Why are synthetic oils more expensive? Are they worth the extra cost?

Synthetic oils are superior to conventional oils because they help maximize horsepower, improve gas mileage and provide a smoother, cooler operation for the engine, prolonging engine life. Many vehicle owners feel that the benefits of using a synthetic motor oil are worth the extra cost.

How does Valvoline's SynPower formula protect against wear?

SynPower full synthetic motor oil is formulated with a balance of high quality ingredients such as detergents, dispersants, antioxidants, friction modifiers, anti-wear additives and premium base oils that work together to provide exceptional protection against engine stress and wear.

Valvoline's proprietary formulation includes special anti-wear chemistry. Valvoline's low impact ZDDP allows phosphorus in the anti-wear additive to stay in the oil longer than other leading synthetic motor oils. Phosphorous bonds to metal parts in the engine to form a "sacrificial" layer that helps protect against friction and metal wear in the engine.

SynPower also uses premium detergents and dispersants that protect against deposits and sludge to keep engines clean. SynPower's premium full synthetic base oils and additives hold up to extreme temperatures to provide increased protection for your engine.

Does using synthetic oil create more sludge?

No. Synthetic oils do not increase the chance of sludge. Valvoline motor oils are 100% anti-sludge guaranteed.

Does using synthetic oil cause my car to use more oil?

No. Synthetic oils do not increase oil consumption.

Is SynPower covered by the Valvoline Engine Guarantee program?

Yes. The Valvoline Engine Guarantee covers your engine if it fails, hassle free. If you have 125,000 miles or less, using Valvoline's SynPower can give you an engine guarantee up to 300,000 miles. Registration required, visit www.engineguarantee.com to learn more.

Does using synthetic oil damage engine seals?

No. Synthetic oils are perfectly safe for all rubber seals.

I heard that synthetic oil is too thin for use in an older car and creates blow-by and burn-off. Is this true?

This is only true if the blow-by problem exists prior to using a synthetic oil. If you have a leaking or blow-by problem, synthetic oils can make the issue worse, but they do not cause it to happen.

Do I need to use a different type of oil filter with synthetic oil?

No. You can use any type of oil filter with a synthetic oil.

Are there certain types of vehicles that should not use synthetic motor oil (e.g., Mazda's)?

Yes, there are certain engines (e.g., rotary engines) in which synthetic oils should not be used. Refer to your owner's manual for the appropriate motor oil recommendation.

Are there any gas mileage advantages to using synthetic oil?

Absolutely. Synthetic oils use higher quality friction modifiers to make the oil more slippery and stronger than conventional oils. This allows the engine to run easier and smoother, increasing gas mileage.

What group of base oils is used in the formulation of SynPower?

Valvoline uses a mixture of Group III and Group IV basestocks.

Does SynPower use polyalphaolefin (PAO) base stocks?

Yes. Valvoline uses a mixture of Group III and Group IV basestocks.

Does SynPower protect engine seals or do I have to buy a higher-mileage motor oil to get that protection?

SynPower does protect engine seals but in order to recondition older engine seals, high mileage oils are recommended.

Is it safe to use SynPower in a motorcycle with a wet clutch?

No. Valvoline SynPower oils are not approved for use with a wet clutch.

Is SynPower compatible with other brands of synthetic motor oil or do I need to flush if I'm switching brands?

Valvoline SynPower is compatible with other synthetic oils.

  • Innovative anti-wear additives provide 50% more wear protection than industry standards as tested in the industry Sequence IVA wear test
  • Full synthetic formula for exceptional high and low temperature protection
  • Extra detergents help fight sludge and deposits

User questions & answers

Question: How can oil sell at this price 41.00 for 5_30 blend never seen company name before would love to try will it be safe to use in my 2014 Subaru forster
Answer: Because it is in bulk, plus it doesn't have a big "brand name" on it. Most motor oils are the same, you are just paying for the name on the bottle. There's only a couple of refineries that make motor oil. The only difference in brands is the blend of additives and the name on the bottle. YES, it is safe in your Subaru, as long as the manufacturer recommends 5w30. I own a repair shop and I use this brand in my own vehicles and customer vehicles without any issues.
Question: Does the lid on this pail have the standard screw-in cap and pull-out nozzle i'm used to on most of the other automotive products i get from napa
Answer: The pail has a cap that screws off and then you can dip in a pump transfer device. There is no pull out nozzle or transfer device built in. This oil does seem to be high quality for the money.
Question: Do you offer a 0w
Answer: I don’t think that they do. Didn’t see one in their catalog. It would help to know what the application is for the oil.
Question: The top line states it is 5w30, but the technical descriptions states 5W20. What is the correct weight
Answer: It's a 5w30 the technical description has a typo.

Quality Motor Oil Keeps Car's Engine Healthy

Changing your car's oil at regular intervals isn't just a good idea -- it's a vital part of keeping your car's engine running properly. The purpose of engine oil is to keep the internal parts of your car's engine lubricated and cool. It keeps the moving parts from grinding against each other causing wear and damage. Without frequent oil changes, dirt and sludge can build up in the engine, and old, dirty oil won't lubricate the moving parts as well as new, fresh oil will. Dirty oil leads to serious damage, and if things get bad enough, there may be an engine replacement in your future.

Question: Does this fit 2013 ford taurus 2.0l ecoboost engine
Answer: I would think but check your operators manual
Question: I want to use this in my Indmar 360 6.2L boat motor seems like this will work can you confirm
Answer: Your boat uses a customized Ford engine, a 6.2 litres (379 cubic inches displacement), same as the Ford full size pickup trucks. As this Motorcraft oil is a synthetic blend oil, API Grade SN with a Viscosity Index of 5W-30, I do not see any reason to not use it with confidence. Anyway a fast check in your owner´s manual wil reassure my opinnion as a Mech Engineer with more than 40 years in the lubrication and fluid power area.
Question: I have ford fusion 2015 2.5L gas , Is it perfect for it
Answer: Yes, I have a 98 Ford expedition only oil I use.
