Answer:	I have this rigg on my xr650L. I also ran the fmf with header pipe and q4 exhaust. Now I'm running the xrs only header pipe and exhaust. No shield on either set up. The straps won't melt if set up properly. This is a nice product for dirtbikes and or on off road duel sports!

Answer:	I didn't have any 2-L soda bottles to test, but I did have a Campbell's Tomato Juice bottle that is 1.89 liters. You could fit 2 of these--one in each bag--but you can't fit anything else in the saddlebags with the bottles unless they are very small items.
