User questions & answers
Question: | Is it gas resistant |
Answer: | ANot 100% sure, but I believe it takes 4 bottles to do a truck bed. |
Question: | Can I apply this right on my chrome front bumper to my truck? Will it stick to it without peeling? Thanks in advance |
Answer: | Primer can only help adherence of any coating, except baked on products such as powder coating |
Question: | Will it work on plywood |
Answer: | You can use a roller, but I would not. First, the action of spraying is what gives the texture to the coating. There are not bits of sand inside the paint. I can't picture this coating without that texture. Second, the product is really thick so I would picture it rolling very uneven. The few corners I tried to do with a hand brush did not look good without a second coat. Third, the product is expensive and you could argue the roller will produce more waste than the waste used by the gun. Some reviewers have complained how the spray gun leaves a little product behind. The little bit left in the bottle I collected with a small touch up brush and used it for corners/nooks the spray gun may have missed (but had to apply two coats in these areas). If you are going to spend the money on multiple coats than perhaps points 2-3 are less relevant, but it does not change my first point. |
Question: | Does the aerosol have any texture? Trying to touch up roll-on installation without having to buy an entire quart |
Answer: | To cover the full bed I would recommend using the 4l kit with the spray gun I used 3-1/2 of them and 3 full coats |

User questions & answers
Question: | Does it come in white |
Answer: | Yes, it comes in many different colors, Depending on the availability from different suppliers. |
Question: | How does this hold up to chemicals, specifically chlorine? Can a regular nappy paint roller be used |
Answer: | This and many other products do not hold up to the use of chlorine. I just applied some of this product to my truck bed. It works great. Be careful when doing the tailgate. I wasn't and now steaks of this product can be seen. I will take if off with my products on hand. Any roller or brush will work. I used both of them. |
Question: | I have a brand new truck, if I do the bumpers with this, will it look really ghetto or cheap, want to maintain my investment w/o ruining it |
Answer: | I would not on a new truck!! I did the hood of my black 06 Suburban as the clear coat had failed and needed reprinting!! The look is good but I would accent your bumpers with "bush bumpers" if you are looking for an off road look !! Hugh Osborn |
Question: | Is the product water based |
Answer: | NO |

User questions & answers
Question: | can this be painted or coloured readily |
Answer: | Yes |
Question: | How much prep work has to be done before application |
Answer: | You just have to stir it up and use. No additives to mix in. |
Question: | Does this product require a hardener? Can it be reused after opening |
Answer: | Ye. but You still have to sand it a little so you can apply it correctly. |
Question: | How well will this hold up for the interior of a jeep? Thanks |
Answer: | Someone else answered “this paint is designed for metal”, but as an industrial painter, I would argue that this paint would bond amazingly well to wood. The porous nature of wood along with the thick and textured nature of this paint would create a very good mechanical bond when applied. Obviously some woods are more porous than others, so it may adhere to a soft wood like pine much better than a very dense wood like teak. Porosity aside, if you sand the wood very well with coarse sandpaper like 80 grit, you would still achieve an excellent bond. I would not use any sort of primer on the wood prior to application, however, don’t be surprised if the wood soaks up some the initial first coat. Cheers |

Truck Bed Paint and Protection
The premium selection of Rust-Oleum Truck Bed Coating products provides a fast and practical way to extend the longevity of vehicles. Whether it's to keep new trucks looking their best or to revitalize rusted, weathered beds after years of use, these rust-resistant formulas ensure exceptional protection from the elements and wear. Versatile paints can also be used on fenders, step areas, trailer floors and more.
Attractive Finish That Extends the Life of Truck Beds
Weather, rust and wear can cause major damage to truck beds over time, shortening their usable life and leaving unsightly marks. Rust-Oleum truck bed coatings all contain the powerful Stops Rust formula to halt corrosion and protect vulnerable metal from moisture. Specialized textured paints also include fade, chip, and scratch resistance to ensure that surfaces stay sealed and attractive through harsh conditions.
Use on new truck beds to ensure they stay in top condition or on old, worn beds to restore them to like-new quality.
Aerosol
Spray on aerosols go on fast and make it easier to create a uniform, drip-free finish. They are ideal for coating tight spaces, corners and curves where brushes may have trouble reaching.
Brush-On
Traditional quarts or gallons can be used with a brush, roller or paint spraying system. They allow for more direct control during application and offer greater total coverage per can.
Clear Coat
Clear coats allow for the same degree of protection as opaque coatings while still letting the beauty of the original surface show. Great for keeping new truck beds looking their best.
Remove Paint and Rust
Remove any loose paint or rust from surface. For better final coat adhesion, lightly sand surface with medium grit sand paper.
Thoroughly Clean Surface
Remove all dirt, grime, grease and residue from area to be painted. Allow to dry completely.
Mask Off Areas
Use painter's tape and coverings to mask off areas that you do not want coated. This will help avoid overspray errors.
Apply Paint
Using method indicated on label, apply 2-3 light coats. Refer to full instructions on can for recoating times.

User questions & answers
Question: | How hard of a shell does this form? I'm thinking of using to coat the bottom of my kayak and wondering if it will hold up against hitting rocks |
Answer: | I don't think so. I did a 5'x8' trailer bed, no sides or tailgate, and I used every drop of the 1 gallon can I bought. |
Question: | Will this be enough to paint a metal bumper ? Already have it etched |
Answer: | yes you can. I just redid the bed of my truck. used Lacquer thinner to prep it, then did 2 new coats on the bed walls and did 2 new coats on the bed. I use this stuff for everything and have found that if you paint over (Rattle cans) it as it tacks up, you get a nice glossy finish that lasts. The UV on the Herculiner isn't that good, But if you paint over it as it tacks it gives it the UV protection it is lacking. Did my sons off-road bumper, rock rails, and the entire interior floor 3 years ago still looks great. |
Question: | How many cans would I need to cover a mini van? Body, undercarriage, hubcaps, and floor inside |
Answer: | Two different mediums and two different application processes. Line-X is a professional / dealer applied finish... whereas Herculiner is a DIY product. I'm a firm believer that Herculiner is one of, if not, THE best DIY liner products out on the market. Better than Line-X? Maybe not. Best bang for the buck? Yes. Follow the directions and be critical of the prep process. Herculiner will serve you very well and turns out great. |
Question: | Is 4L enough to do the inside cab of a full size bronco and large off road front bumper |
Answer: | One gallon will easily put two heavy (rolled on) coats on a six foot pickup bed! |
