12 best fifth wheel slider hitches

Fifth wheel slider hitches are specialized towing components designed for use with fifth wheel trailers and recreational vehicles. These hitches provide a range of motion that allows for better maneuverability when towing large trailers, particularly in tight spaces. Here are some key features and information about fifth wheel slider hitches:

  1. Purpose: Fifth wheel slider hitches are primarily used to enhance the towing experience with fifth wheel trailers, such as RVs, horse trailers, and large cargo trailers. They are especially useful for long-bed and short-bed trucks.

  2. Slider Mechanism: The standout feature of a fifth wheel slider hitch is its sliding mechanism. This allows the hitch to move backward and forward in the truck bed, providing flexibility and preventing the trailer from making contact with the cab of the towing vehicle during sharp turns or when navigating tight corners.

  3. Tight Space Maneuverability: The sliding action is particularly beneficial when towing in confined spaces or making sharp turns. It helps prevent trailer sway and jackknifing, increasing safety and control during the towing process.

  4. Types: Fifth wheel slider hitches come in various designs and weight capacities to accommodate different trailer sizes and weights. Some are manual sliders, which require the driver to manually engage the sliding mechanism, while others are automatic sliders, which adjust automatically as the truck turns.

  5. Installation: Installing a fifth wheel slider hitch typically involves mounting it to the truck's bed rails. The hitch head connects to the kingpin of the fifth wheel trailer.

  6. Locking Mechanism: These hitches are equipped with a locking mechanism that secures the sliding position, ensuring that the hitch remains stationary when needed, and allowing it to slide when necessary.

  7. Compatibility: When selecting a fifth wheel slider hitch, it's essential to ensure compatibility with your specific truck and trailer setup. Consider factors like towing capacity, trailer weight, and bed size.

  8. Maintenance: Regular maintenance is necessary to keep the slider hitch in optimal condition. This includes lubricating moving parts, inspecting for wear and tear, and ensuring proper locking and sliding functionality.

  9. Safety: Proper use of a fifth wheel slider hitch is crucial for safe towing. Drivers should be aware of the hitch's sliding capabilities and limitations and practice safe towing techniques, especially when maneuvering in tight spaces.

In summary, fifth wheel slider hitches are valuable towing accessories for individuals who need to tow fifth wheel trailers with their trucks. They offer improved maneuverability and safety, making it possible to navigate tight spaces without risking damage to the trailer or the towing vehicle. Choosing the right hitch for your specific towing needs and conducting regular maintenance is key to a safe and efficient towing experience.

Product description

The CURT A20 5th wheel hitch offers smoother, quieter towing for your home-away-from-home, combining the patented technology of our A-series, an easier mounting system and the power of a 20K 5th wheel hitch. Like our A16 hitch, this 20K 5th wheel hitch uses a patented cast yoke to allow for unimpeded head movement, while providing exceptional stability for the trailer. The yoke has a set of poly-torsion inserts to suppress shock loads and reduce excessive noise, and the head features high-strength, interlocking jaws to give the trailer stability and the freedom to pivot and swivel as needed. This A20 5th wheel hitch head comes with the CURT R20 slider to be mounted in a short-bed truck using 5th wheel base rails and a bracket kit (base rails and brackets sold separately). CURT 5th wheel sliders feature solid construction and offer a sturdy mounting place for your 5th wheel hitch, ensuring that none of its towing strength is lost. CURT 5th wheel sliders are also true rolling units, meaning they actually roll on wheels that bear the weight of the trailer rather than simply sliding on hollow rods as seen in competitive models. With a thick operating handle, the roller smoothly rolls the 5th wheel head forward and back, locking securely into each position as desired. CURT sliders also provide up to 12" of displacement as well, unlike the more common 10", to give you a wide range of motion and plenty of space to get your 5th wheel trailer around any turn. Once installed, the A20 is fast and simple to operate. It has a lockable, single-throw handle that self-resets to the ready-to-couple position after uncoupling, and it is equipped with a coupling indicator that is visible from the truck cab. To protect the A20 5th wheel hitch against rust and wear, it comes with a black carbide powder coat finish and a limited lifetime warranty. We also test the A20 for safety in accordance with SAE J2638 to ensure reliability for the road ahead.

  • SELF-RESETTING. This A-series 5th wheel hitch features a unique, ergonomic handle and extra-wide head to make coupling your 5th wheel trailer easier than ever. After uncoupling, the handle self-resets to the ready-to-couple position
  • FULL ARTICULATION. This 5th wheel hitch provides controlled towing of your 5th wheel camper with its patented head technology. The head is built on a cast yoke with poly-torsion inserts that reduce shock loads, chucking and noise at the coupling point
  • COUPLING INDICATOR. Built into this 5th wheel hitch is a 3-position indicator that shows the coupling status. It conveniently shows if the 5th wheel hitch is coupled, uncoupled or ready to tow
  • TESTED STRENGTH. This 5th wheel hitch is tested and rated for 20,000 lbs. gross trailer weight and 5,000 lbs. vertical load (limited to lowest-rated towing component). It is tested according to SAE J2638 specifications
  • VERSATILE FIT. This 5th wheel slider hitch comes with a roller to allow for 12 inches of additional turning clearance with short-bed trucks. It mounts onto any industry-standard 5th wheel hitch rails (rails and brackets sold separately)

Easy setup

A-series 5th wheel hitches feature alignment pegs on the hitch legs, as well as easy-access mounting bolts for simple leg-to-body attachment (select models).

Simple installation

Each 5th wheel hitch is designed for fast, one-pin head removal to make removing the 5th wheel from the truck bed easier with smaller, lighter pieces.

Reliable connection

The A-series 5th wheel head is built with high-strength, interlocking jaws that greatly reduce chucking noises. The head also has an extra-wide opening for easy coupling.

How to select a 5th wheel hitch: What size is the truck bed?

Your truck bed length will determine the type of mounting platform you’ll need for your 5th wheel hitch: legs or a roller. 5th wheel legs are the standard option for mounting a 5th wheel hitch, but they will only fit in a long-bed truck. For short-bed trucks, extra clearance may be needed when making tight turns. A 5th wheel roller will allow the hitch to roll backward, providing enough clearance between the trailer overhang and the truck cab.

Does the truck have an OEM puck system?

If you own a truck from Chevrolet, Ford, GMC, Nissan or Ram, your truck bed may be equipped with a puck system (pictured). If your truck has a long bed with the puck system, select a CURT 5th wheel hitch with the appropriate OEM puck system legs. If your truck has a short bed with the puck system, select a CURT 5th wheel hitch with the appropriate OEM puck system roller or roller adapter.

Do you prefer permanent base rails?

If your truck does not have the OEM puck system, you will need to install 5th wheel rails. The traditional method for installing base rails is to use vehicle-specific under-bed brackets. First, select the custom under-bed brackets that fit your specific make and model, as well as a set of industry-standard base rails. Next, if you have a long-bed truck, select a 5th wheel hitch with legs. If you have a short-bed truck, select a 5th wheel hitch with a roller. Remember to always abide by the weight capacity of the lowest-rated towing component.

Would you like the option to easily remove the base rails?

Another 5th wheel mounting option is a gooseneck hitch. Using the CURT Double Lock EZr or Double Lock gooseneck and X5 adapter plate allows you to have a removable set of industry-standard 5th wheel base rails. First, select the Double Lock EZr gooseneck hitch kit that fits your specific make and model. Next, select the corresponding X5 adapter plate. Finally, if you have a long-bed truck, select a 5th wheel hitch with legs. If you have a short-bed truck, select a 5th wheel hitch with a roller.

User questions & answers

Question: im curious what the second picture is featured with this hitch. it looks like a standard tow hitch receiver. That does not come with this hitch
Answer: AMAZON has been the best place for me. shipping sucks with a heavy package though without it tearing up due to the weight.
Question: I have 2015 ram 2500 short box. Will it fit? Also what else do i need to buy
Answer: yes Curt has different models. This one is 20K PT#16035 kk
Question: lowest 20 k fifth slider, where do i find it i am not savy on these computers
Answer: Yes you can. It fits in both the toilet tank and microwave(best if you take the doors off the hinges). I recommend that you locate your breaker panel before microwaving it so that you can tape the correct breaker open as to ensure that the tools can dry properly. You’re welcome in advance!
Question: do you have this 5th wheel in 20k towing capacity
Answer: The case is the worst part of the whole kit. Either the tools will not go back into the poorly formed holders or they will not hold at all. The first thing I did was to put the tools into a tool box and throw the case away.

Product description

The CURT A16 5th wheel hitch excels in easy operation and stable, quiet 5th wheel towing. It does this with two key features: a single-throw handle and a patented head design. The single-throw handle only needs to be pulled once when coupling and uncoupling. It is designed to self-reset to the ready-to-couple position after uncoupling, allowing for fewer steps while hooking up your trailer. The patented head of the A16 features a cast yoke with poly-torsion inserts as well as interlocking jaws to create stability for your truck and trailer. These components allow the A16 to suppress shock and vibrations and reduce any additional noise coming from your trailer. The A16 also has an extra wide head to make coupling even easier, one-pin head removal to make it simple to move the hitch, and a GTW rating of 16,000 lbs. This 16K 5th wheel hitch comes with the CURT R16 slider and the CURT OEM puck system 5th wheel slider adapter. It is designed to be mounted on a Ford short-bed pickup with the truck bed puck system. Using a set of quarter-turn anchors, the adapter quickly and easily drop into the pucks, instantly mounting the A16 hitch equipping the truck for 5th wheel towing. Once installed, the slider allows for added clearance when making tight turns with your trailer. CURT 5th wheel sliders are true rolling units, meaning they actually roll on wheels that bear the weight of the trailer rather than simply sliding on hollow rods as seen in competitive models. With a thick operating handle, the roller smoothly rolls the 5th wheel head forward and back, locking securely into each position as desired. CURT sliders also provide up to 12" of displacement as well, unlike the more common 10", to give you a wide range of motion and plenty of space to get your RV or other 5th wheel trailer around any turn. This A16 hitch with puck system slider is only intended to fit the Ford puck system and cannot be installed without it.

This 5th wheel hitch is tested and rated for 16,000 lbs. gross trailer weight and 4,000 lbs. vertical load (limited to lowest-rated towing component). It is tested according to SAE J2638 specifications
  • VERSATILE FIT. This 5th wheel kit fits select model years of the Ford F-250, F-350 and F-450 with 6.75-foot bed and puck system. It has quarter-turn anchors to quickly and easily drop into the truck bed platform

User questions & answers

Question: How do i use it for a gooseneck also
