My car has thick threaded nylon bushings to mount the top of the license plate to, and rubber bumpers at the bottom to keep the plates and frames away from the painted surface. In the past I have purchased those adhesive rubber pads that you put on the bottom of lamps or whatever to keep from scratching your furniture or counter tops. stick them to the back of the plates or on your car.
